Mitt Romney: Push Poll Charges Are like 9/11 Conspiracy Theories

The McCain Campaign is pissed that the investigation by the New Hampshire Attorney General Kelly Ayotte in the Mormon-Gate Flap will not be completed by the New Hampshire primary next Thursday.

Ayotte said her office determined Western Wats conducted the poll and Moore-Information developed its content and set the dates for the poll to be conducted in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire then executed subpoenas for Moore-Information to produce documents by Saturday explaining its role and who hired it as a middle man. The attorney general’s office asked for a speedy hearing on the subpoenas so primary voters could determine who was responsible for the calls.

But an Oregon court scheduled a hearing for Jan. 16 — a week after the primary, after Moore-Information disputed the subpoena and objected to the deadline.

Deputy Attorney General Bud Fitch said he’s not sure the answer lies in Moore-Information’s client.

“There are a couple of different steps in the process. We don’t know with certainty how many steps there are between Moore-Information and the ultimately responsible party,” Fitch said. “In other words, whoever asked to have this done may have directly hired Moore, they may have hired a consultant, there could be two or more consultants along that line before we get back to the party that actually said ‘I want to have this poll taken.'”

The revelation of “who dunnit” is a possible campaign buster if indeed Romney is involved.
