Fidel Castro Bashes Obama Cuba Policy

Michael Ramirez on Fidel Castro

Former Cuban President Dictator Fidel Castro has criticized Senator and presumptive Democrat Presidential nominee Barack Obama’s Cuba policy. Note, Castro is 81 years old and has not been seen publicly since July 2006 because of illness.

In a column published Monday by government-run newspapers, Castro said Obama was “the most-advanced candidate in the presidential race,” but noted that he has not dared to call for altering U.S. policy toward Cuba.

“Obama’s speech can be translated as a formula for hunger for the country,” Castro wrote, referring to Obama’s remarks last week to the influential Cuban American National Foundation in Miami.

Obama said he would maintain the nearly fifty-year-old trade sanctions against Cuba as leverage to push for democratic change on the island. But he also vowed to ease restrictions on Cuban Americans traveling to Cuba and sending money to relatives.

He repeated his willingness to meet with Raul Castro, who in February succeeded his elder brother Fidel to become the nation’s first new leader in 49 years.

Castro said Obama’s proposals for letting well-off Cuban Americans help poorer relatives on the island amounted to “propaganda for consumerism and a way of life that is unsustainable.”

He complained that Obama’s description of Cuba as “undemocratic” and “lacking in respect for liberty and human rights” was the same argument previous U.S. administrations “have used to justify their crimes against our homeland.”

Obama’s Cuban policy is nothing but a PANDER BEAR anyway, attempting to siphon off Cuban American votes in Florida. McCain will own Florida and voters will NOT hear anymore of the mild appeasement towards Cuban families. But, Obama and the Democrats have tried to WEASEL their way to Florida Cuban votes albeit unsuccessfully.

The Cuban dictatorial government is teetering on complete failure. A few more years of the embargo, the Cuban people will throw out Raul Castro and Cuba will become free.

The government has had to crack down on dissidents even today.

A free Cuba is a matter of time.

Thank you for your words on Cuba, Obama and Castro. The one thing I trust for sure, is we have the same intention. A free fully function Cuba.

With that said our approaches may be distinct in some ways. As background, please know, I was born in Cuba, I’m a Cuban exile, I’m an American Citizen, I have family in Cuba, FL, NJ, NY, CA and friends world wide. I’ve been back to Cuba.

With that said, I think you, as many; have to really reevaluate your position.

You write: “A few more years of the embargo, the Cuban people will throw out Raul Castro and Cuba will become free.”

The existing policies toward Cuba have been forced on Americans, Cuba and the world for the last 47 years. And they clearly have not worked. How can you ask for “A few more years..?”

I know politicians who have been part of sustaining the 47 years of failure with the embargo who have gotten divorces, disowned friends and have changed political parties thoughout the last 47 years. Are family, friends and political parties less important that they change their minds, but they can’t change their mind on the embargo?

God only knows why some pro-embargo people still hold on to their failed plan. Are they that stubborn, crazy or simply don’t really care about Cuba and are more interested in dyeing being righteous, like Castro himself.

I would once like to here a pro-embargo person say, you know what, the embargo has not worked for 47 years, let’s try something new.

I trust you read this with much respect and I know we both, as many, want what is best for Cuba.

    Best regards,

I completely agree with the comments above. I do not thing more years of embargo would be a solution because it clearly has not worked since it started in the 60’s. The embargo if anything is making people poorer in Cuba and the Cuban government does not have any pressure whatsoever. I am Cuban as well, I do not leave in Cuba I live in UK and I do not agree with the way the Cuban government impose its power on the Cuban people but you know something the embargo is giving the Cuban government an excuse to keep broadcasting political propaganda and brain washing its citizen. Stop the embargo and you will see how the focus will be on inner problems other than attacking US on the Cuban media.

I also find very absurd that US citizens can not travel to Cuba because the government will fine them. How is that any different from the restrictions Cuban people have in Cuba?
