Hillary Clinton Congratulates Sarah Palin on Vice Presidential Selection

Hillary Clinton at Democrat Convention

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., right, and her daughter, Chelsea, arrive in the stands before her husband, former President Bill Clinton, speaks at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008

Hillary Clinton rebuffed (and not even vetted for the Vice Presidency) by Barack Obama at the Denver Democrat convention congratulated Alaska Republican Governor Sarah Palin for her selection as John McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate yesterday.

“We should all be proud of Governor Sarah Palin’s historic nomination, and I congratulate her and Senator McCain,” Clinton, the first woman to win a presidential primary, said in the statement. “While their policies would take America in the wrong direction, Governor Palin will add an important new voice to the debate.”

Hillary’s congrats although back handed in a way were far different than Team Obama’s inital reactions which were harsh, negative and made no mention of the historic nature of Sarah Palin’s selection.

The initial polling is favorable for Palin as the GOP attempts to pick off disaffected Hillary Clinton Democrats and independent female voters.

Palin is now viewed favorably by 48% of women. That figure includes 80% of Republican women, 23% of Democratic women, and 61% of women not affiliated with either major party.

Anyone want to bet whether the Clinton Cabal will be supporting McCain – Palin? When the Obama and left-wing attacks begin on Palin look for Clinton supporters in the media to suddenly appear.

Hoist on his own petard. Palin is everything that Obama promises to be, in terms of change and reform, and to top that off, she can reel in women and the working class without half-trying. I just hope she can hold her own in a debate with Biden.

Does the fact that Palin is currently under investigation herself for sketchy political behavior in her own state mean anything to any of you. Or is it more important to point out that Obama, while never being under any investigation himself, has had relations with someone who was being investigated. And is a lifetime of public service (turning down Wall Street after graduating top of his class at Harvard Law to go work and improve the lives of working Americans struggling in Chicago’s poorer communities and becoming a social worker for years before running for office to serve on a grander scale) not count as experience? What about when he recently traveled the world and met with presidents and leaders of Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Germany (where 200,000 Germans citizens waving American flags, and don’t forget that they have hated us for the last 8 years and want to try Bush as a war criminal, came out to cheer and listen to him speak in number not seen since Reagan and JFK before him), France and England? Does not that count as an example of Obama’s ability for international influence, impact and dialogue? And now Palin claims that she is going to take Hillary’s torch to the top of the mountain? Did she really work as hard as Hillary did for the last 19 months to shatter that glass ceiling? I don’t think so. She just got lucky and got picked to hop on the ride. What Hillary did WAS historic. What Palin claims to do is to piggy back on all that work and step on her “sisters” heads to reach the top. She was the mayor of a town that had a population of something like 9000 people. And as governor she has had 0 impact on a national scale and 0 national security or foreign relations experience. Now you can say that’s ok cause McCain is on it. Well isn’t the point of a Vice President supposed to be someone who is qualified to step into the Presidency and be prepared to run the country on all levels at any moment? It is irresponsible for McCain to place American lives into the hands of an obviously unqualified person just because he wants to score some Hillary Clinton voters and add some “spice” to his campaign. I’m sorry if the Democrats out flashed you but there efforts were genuine and real. And whether or not you support of even like Obama or Clinton there is no arguing that they are intelligent and hard working individuals who get shit done and make shit happen. Being the first African American or Woman nominee for President in all of American History is no small thing. There has been a woman vice presidential candidate before. Not to take that away from Palin. But come on. think about the American people, the American economy, the American reputation and standing in the world and not just what kind of gimmick is going to get you elected. Think about the future of America and not just the present. When did we get so scared to evolve? When did we start to fear the smartest person in the room?

  • Has the world gone stark raving mad???

You have GOT TO be kidding!!!! Women are not plug and play interchangeable parts. Has the world gone stark raving mad???
We are NOT stupid. There are REAL issues at stake. After 30 years I lost my Job to a movement off shore. It’s easier to pay someone in India $12,000 than to pay me $100,000.
As a unemployed single mom the IRS does not see that as a hardship, so when I used my 401k to support myself I was penalized and now have a Huge tax bill.
I have done some independent contracts and health care is a huge issue. McCain’s tax rebate of $5,000 is ridiculous. An individual has no power with the insurance companies; power comes with huge groups like corporations.
There are serious issues at stake in this election and we are being played.

Tax breaks for companies that send our jobs off-shore. Tax rebate to competitively buy health care???

Get a clue. One day this could be you!!

I’m a conservative Republican. The big difference I see between Obama and McCain is that Obama is a “puppet” who talks off a script on the various issues – probably due to his inexperience and weak understanding of the issues. He is truly articulate and his delivery is effective. However, if Obama were elected, the same people who are controlling the Obama strings will be running this country. McCain, on the otherhand, speaks from experience; he appears more genuine than Obama. And, as well all know, if McCain were elected, he’ll be running this country. Obama’s campaign is akin to an exorbitant sci-fi movie production; heavy on the special effects, but woefully weak on the story line.

Sarah Palin is an exceptional and wise choice for McCain. Agreeably, a strategically well conceived political chess move – chosen of her gender. However, unlike Obama who was chosen by his party because primarily I think he is black, Sarah Palin has the complete package – she is eminantly qualified to handle the challenges of a VP.

Remember people, “games” are played on both sides of the aisle; both Democratic and Republicans. However, it’s important to realize that in the final analysis (the candidates we choose to lead our country) are the candidates with vision, who will invariably place the interest of our country before their own – McCain and Palin are those candidates!

I can imagine how hurt Hillary must feel in the midst of all the hoopla about the GOP picking a woman for thier ticket, and I feel for her. But I truly believe that if Obama had picked her, he would have been critisized as being disingenous (since they had to be vying for the nomination, and therefore had to go head to head, to show thier individual stance was superior to the others on various issues in debate after debate) and also for being weak. The Clintons are a very polarizing force, and Obama surely felt that it would have been too risky to ask her to join him as VP. In retrospect, I am sure he wishes he could have picked her, but you know how carefully the “committee” that was assembled to help him make his pick must have looked at her. I honestly think he was considering John Edwards before the scandal broke, and thank goodness it came out before he made that critical error. (Too bad for Edwards, I liked him and his views). Joe Biden certainly has paid his dues in Washington, and deserves the honor, and will make Ms Sarah look like a stumbling school girl (or a Repulican puppet replaying her campaign speech over and over). I applaud Hillary for her determination and unflagging efforts to win the nomination, and I know she has to be gracious, especially since Ms. Palin so calculatively complimented her in her speeches, but she must be fuming at the GOP for pulling this, and expecting to pick up votes from her loyal base. They didn’t like her just because she was female, she had the lock on all the important issues to women and the working class American people, especially with regard to healthcare.
