California Teachers Association Donates $ 1 Million for Gay Marriage

California’s largest teacher’s union has given another $1 million to defeat a Nov. 4 ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in the state.

The contribution recorded Tuesday makes the California Teachers Association the largest institutional donor to the No on 8 campaign. CTA also gave $250,000 in August to Equality for All, a coalition of gay advocacy and civil rights groups opposing Proposition 8.

Union spokeswoman Sandra Jackson says CTA’s 800-member policy body voted overwhelmingly to oppose the gay marriage ban. Jackson says the issue concerns educators because “teachers teach the importance of equal rights for all.”

She says CTA leaders made the second contribution this week because the No campaign seems to be struggling.

Must be for California’s kids, right?

Flap wonders about all of those teachers who MUST pay union DUES to the CTA (most California School Districts are “closed shop”) who object to homosexuality, its lifestyle and gay marriage? Oh well. Bet they didn’t poll their membership on this one.

Flap abandoned the public schools for his kids decades ago and should Proposition 8 fail at the polls, this will be just another reason for religious, parochial, private or home schools.

Vote YES on California Proposition 8.

I want you to know my family have been big supporters of the teachers and the union but you have gone to far this time. I do not believe the majority of teachers favor gay marriage and that the million dollars you have spent to defeat the proposition was wrong.

I will no longer support your association and will support any movement by the teachers to secure their rebate of $300.00 and I am sure our grand children will be ill on the 21st or one other day before that day in protest of your actions.

You complain about lack of supplies in the schools, if you have a million to spend you should have done it there.

I’m incensed about the Teachers’ Union donation of $1 Million to the defeat of Prop 8. They’re not even a little bit interested in equality. They want far more rights for non-traditional couples than they do for heterosexual couples. (Where are the King and Queen manuals for teaching students about traditional marriage?) How does this small group of elitist terrorists (Union Leadership) come off stealing a million dollars from hard-working teachers, at least half of whom probably do not agree with this ‘donation’? The money will go into creating further lies about Prop 8. If they manage to pass it (despite my commitment to call over 100 CA voters and plead with them to vote yes on 8), they will do all they can to keep me and other citizens from having any input into how our children are taught about relationships between adults in school. Union activists — and others condemning Prop 8 — get your intolerant little minds out of my family’s life, and quit your hypocritical comments about equality! We know your agenda, and it’s got nothing to do with fairness, equality or poor, deprived couples who can’t have a family life because of mean old Prop 8 supporters. Rubbish!!!!!

The teach association should have a vote by parents and teachers before they decide to support which party. They should not allow to take the money which we support the teachers to do something we think is not right.

I wish we could stop our kids from going to school for a few days, in protest to all these teachers supporting gay marriges, I am not against gays yet what possible reason or right would they want to pollute innocents minds with the idea that being gay is acceptable, it would be like me say ” hey, every one I have aids, but its okay, I can sex with any one I choose without the use of protection, because its my right, if they get infected along the process, well its a change I am willing to take”…. is the teachers assosiation serious about these….

I sisagree with the stand our union is taking and I resent the fact that it was taken without so much as a vote or a poll of our teachers how dare you speak for everyone with out even asking us

correction I DISAGREE WITH OUR UNION AND I AM OUT RAGED THAT THEY DONATED ANY OF MY UNION DUES FOR THIS . I AM NOT AGAINST GAY UNIONS , I JUST STRONGLY FEEL THAT GOD CREATED A MAN AND A WOMAN AND MARRIAGE. IF YOU WANT A GAY UNION OUR EXISTING CIVIL UNION LAWS PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS TO HAVE A PARTNERSHIP. PARTNERSHIPS ARE ENTERED INTO BY MANY, AND UP HELD BY LAW AND OUR CONTRACTS PROTECT THESE UNIONS WITH MEDICAL BENNIFITS ETC… BUT IT IS NOT A MARRIAGE . MARRIAGE IS DEFINED AS A STATE OF UNION BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN AND GOD. NEXT TIME YOU USE MY UNION DUES I WOULD APPRECIATE AT LEAST TAKING A POLL, OR A VOTE AS TO WHERE IT IS GOING.

I recently joined the teachers’ union at my community college. Right afterward, I received propaganda from the union telling me I needed to vote “No” on Prop 8 & 4. Since when do labor unions tell us how to vote on issues that are not related to labor? How can the union take our dues and use them for things like this? I’m trying to find a way to opt out of the union as quickly as possible.
