Barack Obama Spreading the Wealth Around With $150 Million Inauguration – Most Expensive in History

Timothy Geithner Secretary of Treasury

Treasury Secretary-designate Timothy Geithner looks on at left as President-elect Barack Obama meets with members of his economic team at his transition office in Washington. Geithner, President-elect Barack Obama’s choice to run the Treasury Department and lead the economic rescue effort disclosed to senators Tuesday that he failed to pay $34,000 in taxes from 2001 to 2004, a last-minute complication in an otherwise smooth path to confirmation

“The One’s” Inauguration will be the MOST EXPENSIVE in United States history. Guess since the Obamessiah is replacing the evil Bush it is worth it?

Or is Obama merely following through on what he said to “Joe the Plumber” – he is spreading the wealth around.

Barack Obama’s inauguration is set to cost more than £100m making it the most expensive swearing-in ceremony in US history.

The President-elect will take less than a minute to recite the oath of office in front of an estimated two million people in the US capital next week.

But by the time the final dance has been held at one of the many inaugural balls the costs for the day will be a staggering £110m.

So many people are expected in the U.S. capital that President Bush declared a state of emergency.

In doing so he paves the way for unlimited funding to be released to those local authorities responsible for staging the event.

Obama is talking about $ Trillion deficits for the foreseeable future. Another $200 million for his inauguration is a drop in the bucket – especially if Geithner pays his back taxes.

Inflation here we come.

Update:

“The One” in this video tells us the inauguration is all about US and not him.

President-elect Obama talks about ways for everyone to participate in the Inauguration.

Right……

This is going to be a long 4 years. I can’t stand to hear him speak or see his pictures. Excuse me while I hurl!

150 million is crump change for this historic moment and to make america feel good after the failed bush administration.
what a contrast from the bush inaururation where there was more demostrators than supporters.

Sassinfras, your post is a perfect example of the ignorance of our country. This topic should have nothing to do with what any past president did or how ‘historic’ you want to believe electing a half-African-American man to office (yeah, thats right, I didn’t call him a black man-everyone keeps finding pride by claiming he’s black, but let’s not forget that it takes 2 parents to make a kid). This is a man who ran on a platform of ‘change’, but since gaining the Dem-selection as presidential candidate:
*picked Biden to run with him, a career politician and champion of excessive lawmaking in an effort to push his own agendas
*nominated a tax-cheat to be the sec. of treasury and simply glossed over it by saying ‘he made a small mistake’. If ANY AVERAGE PERSON made the same mistake, the IRS would RUIN THEM. This guy gets a pass however because OBAMA IS TAKING CARE OF HIS FRIENDS, JUST AS ANY POLITICIAN WOULD DO.
*set himself up to have the biggest party of all time and call it an inauguration. Why do we have to display such grandeur at a time when the country is reeling from economic woe in biblical proportions? It’s called self-grandeur, and is typical of a narcissistic politician (but given the $150b price, I’d say there’s nothing typical about it at all).

STOP BEING STUPID PEOPLE!!! JUST BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T LIKE BUSH, YOU SHOULDN’T GIVE OBAMA A PASS!!!! It doesn’t matter if Bush was the worst ever…THAT DOES NOT GIVE OBAMA THE RIGHT TO SKATE THROUGH HIS PRESIDENCY UNCHALLENGED!!!

the new administration is a welcome change to those ‘war crims’ who were running things.
how can he get a pass when he is yet to take office and impliment policy. i’m sure he will be scrutinised more than any other president for every one is expecting a lot from him. i’m no fan of obama ,but next to bush, he is a welcome change. by nominating a tax cheat is no big deal- remember these are US politicans your dealing with which are the biggest crims in the world. key bush officials have maintained their interest while in power in the ‘distaster capitalism’ complex even as they have ushered in a new era of privatized war and distaster response, allowing them to stimultaneously profit from the distasters they help unleash.
instead of worrying about $150 million, you should worry about the $350 billion reward bush gave to the very people who brought financial distaster on america. they must be laughing all the way to another bank.

You cannot put the failure of our country on the shoulders of its president. It was not Bush’s fault that the colored folks in new orleans were to stupid to get out of a cat 4 hurricanes way. It was not his fault that our country was attacked. And if you did not know it the democrats have been in charge of this country since 2006.

Its all smoke and mirrors guys and you just have to open your eyes and see it. It is soley the governments fault for the failings in the private sector. Freddy Mac and Fanny May were formed by the government to help control the mortage market. These two entities under the tutalage of Barney Franks destroyed the mortgage market.

What no one seems to hit on is the number one catalysts for the financial crysis.

Fuel prices at 5.00 a gallon anyone? Think of it this way. Bubba and wife both work, have two automobiles and a mortgage. With fuel prices at 5 dollars a gallon that would put on average an extra 800-1200 dollars extra a month of extra bills on bubba and his family.

You have to have the cars to get to work so a normal individual would let the house go back to the bank. It is actually the only smart alterantive.

Another one for your pipe. In 1977 the dept of energy was created during Carters 4 years. This dept was created for the sole purpose of what? The correct answer is to lesson our dependence on foreign oil. Can you guess the anual budget of this dud?

You see it roles and roles and roles. It doesnt matter whether they are dem or rep becuase what they truelly are is politicians and politicians are ticks attached to a place on our back that we cant get too.

It is so sad that the majority of the people in the world have to be told what to do instead of using thier brain and thier own initiative.

the US has to take some responsibility for being attacked. US foriegn policy stinks in south america and the middle east and 9/11 was a form of ‘blowback’. the US has done everything it could to stop democracy in these countries and instead organised coupes and installed right wing brutal dictators from pinochet to the shah of iran.

if it was the governments fault for the failings of the private sector ,through the mismanagment of freedy mac and fanny mae , why is it a global crisis. if this was true it would have only affected USA. it has been proven that the markets cannot self regulate without eventually causing a financial crisis. thats why regulations were imposed after the great depression which every president since carter help dismantle, but none more the g.w.bush.
my understanding why the blackfellas didn’t get out of the way of katrina was that they were poor and had nowwhere to go.the govt didn’t help these people to evacuate and the public infastructure was so poor in new orleans that it couldn’t have handled it anyway.
petrol hit $5.00 gallon because of the the futures market in which speculators drove up the price. it had nothing to do with supply and demand. the oil countries produced oil at the same rate it was consumed. i didn’t have any troubles filling my car with petrol during this period. there were no long lines with motorist waiting to fill up.
what has basicly happened since reagan is that the people serve the interest of the corporatation and not the other way around. so it was all about record profits which went to just 2% of the population.
