Tom McClintock Continues to Lead in California Congressional District 4

    Tom McClintock Election Night 2008

California State Senator Tom McClintock, R- Thousand Oaks and wife, Lori on election night

Tom McClintock continues to lead Democrat Charlie Brown in northern California’s 4th Congressional District.

As of late afternoon (yesteerday, Tuesday) there have been no changes in the reported count – we are still ahead by 1,092 votes, or 0.34 percent out of 313,384 votes counted.

We expect the bulk of Nevada County’s votes to be reported tomorrow, where we could lose as many as 1,500 votes.  Nevertheless, we are seeing better performance with the late absentees than we saw on election night in every county – including Nevada – and if that keeps up, our numbers should bounce back fairly rapidly.  Based on the precincts yet to be counted, chances are very good that our lead should start widening from our low point when Nevada comes in.  If we stay out of negative territory with that vote, victory should be within sight.

    Stay tuned……

Tom McClintock Opens Up 8 Point Lead in California’s 4th Congressional District Race

Republican California State Senator Tom McClintock’s latest campaign ad: “Charlie Brown Was There”

Tom McClintock has opened up an 8 point lead among likely voters in his race for California’s 4th Congressional District.

Likely voters gave Republican Tom McClintock an eight point advantage over Democrat Charlie Brown in the race for the congressional seat in the 4th Congressional District. The poll was conducted by veteran pollster Val Smith, Ph.D.  A telephone survey of high-propensity registered voters within the 4th Congressional District was conducted between the dates of Sept 22 and Sept 24, 2008. The sample size of 400 yields a sampling error of less than +/- 5.0%.

McClintock’s lead rose to a 53% to 39% margin when respondents were read campaign messages from both Brown and McClintock.

    The poll is here.

With the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate the GOP base in this Northern California and GOP dominated Congressional district will turn out and vote for Tom McClintock.

This “safe” Republican seat looks secure with McClintock.

Republican California State Senator Tom McClintock’s latest campaign ad: “Charlie Brown Was There”

California State Senator Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) who is running for the CA-4 Congressional seat is “on air” with this campaign ad that shows his opponent in military uniform (2005) at a Sacramento home (remember left-wing activists, Virginia and Stephen Pearcy)  and remember Stephen Pearcy’s art protesting the Iraq War.

Charlie Brown has denied he wore his uniform but the image in the video shows otherwise.

Charlie Brown is just another LIAR.

Congratulations to Flap’s California State Senator Tom McClintock in his election victory last night in the California Primary Election. Tom who was raised in Thousand Oaks and served many years as its representiative in the California Assembly and Senate ran and WON for the GOP nomination for a Northern California open Congressional seat (CA-4).

Tom McClintock, emerging victorious Tuesday from a bruising Republican primary, will face Democrat Charlie Brown in a November match-up to replace retiring Rep. John Doolittle in Congress.

With all precincts reporting, McClintock held a decisive lead over former Sacramento-area Rep. Doug Ose, 54 percent to 39 percent.

“It looks like we’re headed toward a monumental victory,” McClintock, a state senator representing a district 400 miles away, told cheering supporters in Placer County.

Flap remembers fondly the early years of the McClintock political career and walking precincts with Tom in Camarillo as he ran in his first contested GOP primary election for the California Assembly in 1982. Tom won the primary and went on to be the then youngest elected member of the California Legislature.

In 1983 (after having been sworn into office) Tom gave a tour of the California State Capitol during the California Republican Party organizational meeting which Flap and family attended. Here are the photos and note Flap’s long and brown colored hair:

Tom McClintock and Greg Cole 1

Flap knows Tom will continue to be a strong conservative voice for California voters.

And, one thing is for sure: McClintock will be a “PAIN IN THE ASS” for Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

McClintock runs against the Democrat nominee, Charlie Brown in the November general election. He will be heavily favored in this very GOP gerrymandered Congressional District.

    Tom McClintock Declares for Congress

State Sen. Tom McClintock uses the steps of the historic Placer County Courthouse to announce his candidacy for the 4th District congressional seat being vacated by John Doolittle.

California State Senator Tom McClintock (R- Thousand Oaks) declared this morning he is a candidate for Congress (CA-4) and former California state Senator Rico Oller withdrew from the race and endorsed McClintock.

“I’ve heard your voices. I’ve heeded your advice. I’m here today to ask for your consideration for U.S. Congress,” McClintock announced in front of the historic Auburn courthouse.

McClintock, a longtime Republican lawmaker from Southern California, will face former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose in what could be a bitter GOP primary to replace John Doolittle, a nine-term incumbent who is not seeking re-election.

The race will be an interesting one and expensive. McClintock currently lives outside the 4th district and represents Ventura County in the California State Senate. He will have to defend himself against the carpetbagger issue.

Flap thinks Tom will have a relatively easy time in winning this GOP primary election in June. Whoever wins the GOP primary will win the general election (Republicans outnumber Democrats by 17 % in registration).

Flap friend and fellow Bear Flag League blogger John Fleishman has more on Tom McClintock’s exploratory race in the Sacramento area CA-4 Congressional District.

McClintock is telling folks that he will be making an announcement early next week. But as you read the e-mail he sent to his supports, which is below, I think that his “formal” announcement will be anti-climactic — McClintock’s already in this race…

    E-MAIL FROM TOM MCCLINTOCK

    From: Sen. Tom McClintock
    To: JonFlash@earthlink.net
    Subject: Potential Campaign for Congress

    Dear E-Team:

As you may have heard I am seriously considering running for Congress in the 4th Congressional district. While no final decision has been made yet, all initial indications are very favorable. This is a district where Republicans outnumber Democrats by over 17 percent and polling shows me in a very powerful position to win the Republican nomination and take on the Democrat who performed strongly in the 2006 election.

We have opened an exploratory committee to raise the funds necessary to take the initial steps before I am able to commit to this race. Your generous support would allow me to complete the exploratory process expeditiously and would weigh heavily as I prepare to make the final decision.

Flap says go ahead and visit his website and send Tom some coin for his Congressional run. The formal announcement will be next week.

    *****UPDATE*****

McClintock is raising money and has opened an exploratory committee

California State Senator Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) listens to Presidential candidate Fred Thompson who McClintock endorsed

The rumors that California GOP State Senator Tom McClintock will run in Northern California’s 4th Congressional district accelerated yesterday when McClintock dropped by a demonstration of support for his candidacy on the State Capitol steps in Sacramento.

State Sen. Tom McClintock made a public stop today on his — maybe, maybe, quite possible — courtship with running for Congress in the Sacramento region’s 4th District.

As California College Republicans gathered on the north steps of the Capitol to urge McClintock to run for the seat being vacated by Rep. John Doolittle, McClintock eagerly dropped in on the fun. And he said he’ll decide soon.

“I expect to be making an announcement one way or another next week – so stay tuned,” McClintock said.

The Thousand Oaks Republican was egged on by Ryan Clumpner. The UC Davis student and state chairman of the College Republicans presented him with two poster boards filled with signatures of people asking him to get into the race. The signatures were gathered at last week’s state GOP convention in San Francisco.

“I don’t know what to say except thank you,” McClintock said. “Obviously, we’re looking at this very carefully. This kind of encouragement means a lot. … I wish I could offer you an announcement and an answer, but it will be a few more days.”

Tom is inching forward to this race cautiously and lining up his supporters. There is, of course, the carpetbagger issue and other GOP candidates who wish to sabotage his candidacy. However, neither of these should deter McClintock.

Tom McClintock Watch: Congress in McClintock’s Future?

California State Senator Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks and California Representative Elton Gallegly – (R) CA 24th

Will Ventura County be losing a home-grown politician to Congress and Northern California?

The closely watched Republican primary race to replace outgoing Rep. John Doolittle is drawing added intrigue as a leading California conservative says he is “seriously” considering entering the field.

State Sen. Tom McClintock, a former GOP gubernatorial candidate, confirmed in an interview Tuesday that he is eying the race and hopes to make a decision in the coming weeks.

“Obviously, it is a matter I take very seriously,” said McClintock.

Tom who all intents and purposes has lived for more than a decade in the Sacramento area (while representing his hometown of Thousand Oaks in the California Legislature) and who has rented a house in the CA-4 Congressional District would easily win a GOP primary this June. Since the Congressional district is overwhelmingly gerrymandered “RED” whoever wins the GOP primary election will win the seat.

Moreover, there is precedence with Sacramento area (CA-3) Congressman Dan Lungren, formerly California Attorney General and a Member of Congress from Long Beach in Southern California.

What McClintock has to decide is whether he wants a Washington – California bi-coastal lifestyle or would rather remain in California.

Would McClintock challenge CA-24 incumbent GOP Congressman Elton Gallegly as this piece suggests?

No, why bother when polling already shows him up by over 30 points in CA-4.

Flap’s bet is that McClintock goes for the CA-4 Congressional race and is elected a new Member of Congress.
