Mike Huckabee a Threat to Mitt Romney in Iowa?
Republican presidential hopeful and former Gov. Mike Huckabee speaks at the Livestrong Presidential Cancer Forum at the US Cellular Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in August. Partly by exploiting discontent among Christian conservatives with the Republican field, Huckabee, a witty former Arkansas governor, has powered into second place in polls in Iowa, 65 days before the state’s crucial caucuses.
Obviously, he may be a bigger threat than the polls apparently demonstrate.
Why else would Mitt Romney biographer, Hugh Hewitt, write this screed: A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Giuliani.
(1)Governor Huckabee’s record in Arkansas isn’t conservative on crucial issues like personnel and taxes, and/or (2)Governor Huckabee cannot possibly win the nomination so an endorsement or vote for Huckabee is really an assist to Rudy Giuliani as it diverts energy from the conservative most likely to stop Giuliani –Mitt Romney.
What Hewitt fails to ask his evangelical friends who will throw Rudy under the bus should he win the GOP nomination is how many conservative NON-EVANGELICAL GOP voters will abandon the GOP should Mitt Romney receive the nomination?
Flap knows the answer is MANY.
Update:
Soren Dayton details Huckabee’s strength with the Christian Right and how it further threatens Romney.

Giuliani Florida Poll Watch: Rudy Leads Romney by 17 Points While Thompson Collapses
Republican presidential hopeful former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani greets supporters at a coffee shop in Loveland, Colo., Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007.
The St. Petersburg Times Poll:
- Rudy – 34%
- Romney – 19%
- McCain – 12%
- Thompson – 8%
The big news out of this Florida poll is the collapse of Fred Thompson. Florida was to be the battleground between Rudy and Thompson.
Now, will it be the battleground between Rudy and Romney?
Mitt Romney has been “on air” with television commercials and is polling even with Rudy in Central Florida. Whereas, Giuliani continues with a large lead in South Florida.
The November 7 Survey USA Florida poll had Thompson polling at 22% with Romney at 17%. Rudy maintained 34% support.
So, the question is whether this poll is an OUTLIER or has indeed the Thompson campaign collapsed in Florida and in turn given Mitt Romney an opening.
Stay tuned…..

News item: Clinton Campaign Confirms Planting Town Hall Question, Says It Won’t Happen Again
Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s campaign admitted Friday that it planted a global warming question in Newton, Iowa, Tuesday during a town hall meeting to discuss clean energy.
News item: Another Question Planted by Team Hillary?
In a telephone interview with Fox, Geoffrey Mitchell, 32, says he was approached by an operative for the Clinton campaign to ask a planted question about standing up to President Bush on Iraq war funding. The encounter happened before an event on a farm outside Fort Madison, Iowa. The Clinton event was hosted by Iowa State Sen. Gene Fraise.
Mitchell tells Fox that Clinton campaign worker Chris Hayler approached him and asked him to ask Sen. Clinton a question about how she was standing up to President Bush on the question of funding the Iraq war and a troop withdrawal timeline.
Hillary has NOT had a good couple of weeks. But, will this affect the polls?
