Mitt Romney to Endorse John McCain for President

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., right, tries to get by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney after a Republican presidential debate in Simi Valley, Calif. in this Jan. 30, 2008 file photo. Romney agreed Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, to endorse McCain for the party’s presidential nomination and ask his national convention delegates to swing behind the party front-runner, according to officials familiar with the decision.

Mitt Romney WILL endorse John McCain for President later today.

Looks like an attempt to one up Mike Huckabee who has strangely stayed in the race while he runs off to give a paid lecture in the Cayman Islands this weekend.

Flap’s question to Mitt: Rudy Giuliani endorsed McCain the next day after he lost Florida. What took you so long after Super Tuesday, Governor?

No wonder Romney was the most disliked GOP candidate in the GOP Presidential field. What an opportunist.

Update:

And, now there is a question as to whether Romney can direct his delegates to vote exclusively for McCain.

Will Romney call for Huckabee to withdraw at his 4 PM EST news conference?

Romney can release his delegates from voting for him on the first ballot but then they can choose to vote for whoever they want. Once he releases them, he has no say in where they go at the Convention.

What did it take him so long? What was he waiting for? Maybe to see if Huckster could pull a surprise in VA, MD, DC and then get enough delegates combined with Romney’s to throw it into a brokered Convention. Most logical explanation!

Romney has been classless from day one. Guess we should expect the lack of class since he tried to claim the Reagan mantle but he used to brag about never voting for Reagan as he was an Independent. Then when he thought it would win him points to try and say he was like Reagan, he ignored the past. Hard to keep track of where Romney stood on any issue but what do I know as the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Levin for starters thought he was this wonderful conservative and tried to shove it down our throats how conservative Romney was. Guess it shows pandering gets their support even if it is a lie.

So glad the voters of America saw through his charade. He may have had more flip flops then John Kerry.

Romney has been classless from day one IMO. Guess we should expect the lack of class since he tried to claim the Reagan mantle but he used to brag about never voting for Reagan as he was an Independent. Then when he thought it would win him points to try and say he was like Reagan, he ignored the past and what he had to say about Reagan.

The Rombots over at Race42008 are hoping that McCain puts Romney on the ticket as VP. I say there is on chance. Besides, McCain hates Romney’s guts ( something McCain and I have in common ).

  • Flap

If McCain were to put Romney on the ticket. I would re-register and vote Democrat.

Besides which, that ticket would lose big time.

    McCain will not choose him.

  • Samantha

No way McCain would choose Romney who waited a long time to endorse. Not to mention the two have never been on the same page. McCain’s opinion of Romney matches mine too! It has been kind of nice to see some of the more arrogant radio pundits lose credibility. Someone posted on a site today that Hannity said he is going to the Constitution Party. At least the GOP wouldn’t be blamed for his comments! Can we demand equal time on Hannity and Colmes if he does go to the Constitution Party?

Seeing all these pundits and socons go ballistic has been making me laugh. Sen McCain is pro-life but you would never know that — it doesn’t matter to them now because he doesn’t do what they say on every issue — they raised the bar.

Mixed blessing for McCain, if you ask me. Romney’s endorsement isn’t exactly a badge of authencity, and if there’s one thing McCain can take credit for, that’s of being the real deal. On the lighter side, McCain is probably having fits of laughter…

    • Flap

Now, McCain can win Utah with 90 % of the vote instead of 60%. Romney’s endorsement is for Romney and not for the GOP – and especially NOT for McCain.

As far as conservative radio hosts are conerned, I wrote off both Laura Ingraham and Hugh Hewitt months ago. Ingraham not only trashed Rudy after he appeared on her show, but she seems to think that she is the moral voice for all of us.

Hewitt was so much in the tank for Romney, I got the feeling that he was auditioning for Press Secretary in a Romney adimiinstration. Thankfully that will not come to fruition.

    • Samantha

Dennis — we are on the same page. I couldn’t believe Hewitt over the months and frankly seeing Romney FINALLY endorse McCain made my day. I bet all the other candidates were laughing as Romney endorsed. Now President Bush #41 is going to endorse Sen McCain on Monday in Texas.

Was huge Rudy supporter but must admit I have been laughing at what I am seeing happen. Pundits thought they could get Rudy out and they would get Romney — boy were they wrong.

What is funny is that the weekend before FL we were talking on here about the possibility of Rudy/McCain having some type of alliance that whoever won FL, the other would endorse. I just wish that some staff of Rudy had been more forthcoming with the truth right before FL instead of pushing their total spin.

    • Flap

Hugh is attempting to change direction with his show and blog but a shill for Romney he is.

He will never regain his audience of non-Rombots.

Laura Ingraham, well, I preferred Michelle Malkin over at Fox News but I guess she was not blonde enough for that perv O’Reilly.

Top Three Contributors to Ron Paul are U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force (2/14/08)

Message of strong national defense and strictly following the Constitution resonates with American servicemen and women

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – According to opensecrets.org, the top three contributors to Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul’s campaign are from the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force respectively.

“No matter how you measure it, Dr. Paul has the support of our nation’s brave servicemen and women,” said Kent Snyder, Ron Paul 2008 campaign chairman. “His message of a strong national defense, and only going to war with a declaration of war – as mandated by the Constitution – resonates with those who risk their lives to defend that Constitution.”

No branch of the military appears among the “top contributors” to GOP frontrunner John McCain’s campaign.

Additionally, Ron Paul’s military contributions are greater than those of all other current candidates – John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama –combined.

The “Top Contributors” figures can be found at http://www.opensecrets.org.

Q4 FEC Reports: Ron Paul Receives More Military Donations Than All Other Republicans Combined

Total military donations nearly as much as the total of all other remaining candidates – Republican and Democrat

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – According to newly released FEC reports, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has received more military donations than the other three remaining Republican candidates combined.

“The latest numbers make it clear: the troops support Ron Paul,” said Ron Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “Dr. Paul has worked his entire career working for veterans, and has many awards and endorsements due to his dedication to their cause.”

A search of the FEC database by employer reveals that Dr. Paul has received 1160 donations from military donors, nearly triple that of John McCain, and more than McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee combined.

Dr. Paul’s total military donations of $249 thousand are almost as much as the $260 thousand of combined donations received by the other five remaining candidates.

Congressman Paul is no stranger to military support. Former president Ronald Reagan once said, “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country!”

According to the FEC reports, these are the total number and amount of military donations for each of the presidential candidates*:

    Ron Paul: 1160 $249k
    John McCain: 438 $83k
    Mike Huckabee: 126 $37k
    Mitt Romney: 126 $24k
    Barack Obama: 443 $76k
    Hillary Clinton: 154 $41k

*Methodology: Searched FEC reports for occupation/employer contains: “Army” “Navy” “USN” “USAF” “Air Force” “Marine” “USMC” “Coast Guard” “USCG” then removed duplicates and non-military occupations (i.e. “marine repair”)

Theses quotes from President Reagan have been disputed and debunked.

Ron Paul is going nowhere except back to his safe GOP Congressional seat for a couple of more terms.

      Who cares?

What is he going to do with the $6 million he has in excess Presidential campaign contributions?

Oh, yeah in December he will transfer it ALL to his Congressional account and spend it. Will he return it to those service people?

      Nope……

I am democrat but I like Mit Romney because his focus in economic, business and move this country as leader in the world. 100 years more in Iraq as McCain said but his is 72 already…is something I am disagree totally, but in my view Romney are running now for VP because probably in the case Mc win on nov 4…and his health not doing well…is a good chance for Mit Romney to be President.
    GOD BLESS AMERICA!
