Rich Lowry over at National Review says that Team McCain has been calling key state Republican officials and sounding them out about the consequences of a pro-choice Vice President pick.

Most pundits have been focusing on former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge and Independent/former Democrat Senator Joe Lieberman.

But, remember last week when it was announced that Maria Comella was joining Team McCain’s Vice President operation. And, for whom did Comella immediately work?

Pro-Choice, former New York Mayor and Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.

Could it be Rudy?

Flap thinks it would be a reach but certainly Rudy would be a more forceful and an attack-dog type Vice Presidential candidate. And, nobody from National Review is panning him – even now.

Rudy Giuliani would be a good choice for Vice President and with all of the John Edwards sex, mistress, love child scandal Rudy’s personal baggage might be more ancient history. And, should Obama choose the racist remarking, plagiarizing Joe Biden as Vice President…..

But, Flap thinks McCain will play it safe with Tim Pawlenty, the Governor of Minnesota.

Update:

Kathryn Jean Lopez has picked up on It’s Rudy.

I don’t think it’s being floated for Liebermann or Ridge.
I think he’s considering Giuliani.
– Might put NY in enough play to make Obama spend a lot of money there.
– Has name recognition and gets plenty of respect on law enforcement/national security
– Might be more palatable to pro-lifers if he were to make clear that it’s McCain’s pro-life administration

Michelle Malkin is already shuddering at the prospect of McRudy.

But, would she rather have flipper Romney?

    Flap,

You may be right. The rumor is that Rudy is under consideration. Friends in the east told me a couple of weeks ago that Rudy was on the short list, however I did not believe them at the time.

What an incredible story if true, and what a head fake by the McCain campaign!!!

    Wow!!!

If Joe Biden is selected as Obama’s vice President, I think it opens the door wide open for Rudy. Slow Joe is such a horses behind that Rudy would cripple him in any debate.

Rudy vs. Biden would be a classic confrontation between left and right.

But, who knows who Barry will choose?

Now I am hearing that Fox News has reported that the RNC told Carl Cameron that Ridge is no longer under consideration for VP. From this, Carl Cameron makes the leap that McCain will not choose a pro-choice VP. Cameron is often wrong, and has a tendency to let his conservative views get in the way of his reporting,

Who knows. Apparently McCain’s staff doesn’t know who he will choose.
