Pakistani intelligence agents hunted Wednesday for the graves of four al-Qaida militants believed killed in an airstrike near the Afghan border — including at least one suspected high-ranking al-Qaida figure.
ABC News and The New York Times reported that Pakistani officials believe a master bomb maker and chemical weapons expert for al-Qaida was killed in the attack on the village of Damadola last week. He was identified as Midhat Mursi, also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri, who ran an al-Qaida training camp and has a $5 million reward on his head.

Michelle Malkin: HIT: AL QAEDA’S BOMB MAKER
ABC News has learned that al Qaeda’s master bomb maker and chemical weapons expert was one of the men killed in last week’s U.S. missile attack in eastern Pakistan.
Midhat Mursi, 52, also known as Abu Khabab al-Masri, was identified by Pakistani authorities as one of three known al Qaeda leaders present at an apparent terror summit conference in the village of Damadola.
The United States had posted a $5 million reward for Mursi’s capture. He is described by U.S. authorities as the man who ran al Qaeda’s infamous Derunta training camp in Afghanistan, where he used dogs and other animals as subjects of experiments with poison and chemicals.
“This is extraordinarily important,” said former FBI agent Jack Cloonan, an ABC News consultant, who was the senior agent on the FBI’s al Qaeda squad. “He’s the man who trained the shoe bomber, Richard Reid and Zacharias Mousssaoui, as well as hundreds of others.”

When he steps out into the real world, Mr Galloway may regret his decision to accept the producer’s challenge to mimic a pet on live television last night. He may feel his flirtation with a reality TV youth audience was not worth the loss of credibility that many of his critics claimed yesterday was an inevitable consequence.
The firebrand parliamentarian earned the grudging respect of even his political enemies through his performance before the US Congress last year. But yesterday viewers only saw rolling footage of the cat performance. Commentators called it excruciating and his own supporters said it was an indignity.
Galloway was proven a CORRUPT MORON when he testified before Congress last year.
And now is just reprising his performance as a MORON.

Al Qaeda’s second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri is alive, Al Arabiya television reported on Saturday, quoting a source which it said has contact with al Qaeda.
A source with contacts with al Qaeda reiterated to Arabiya that Zawahri is “alive,” the satellite television said.
The report came after U.S. sources said a U.S. airstrike in Pakistan targeted Zawahri, but a senior Pakistani official said the al Qaeda leader was not there at the time.
The strike on Friday killed at least 18 people, including women and children, and three houses were destroyed in a village near the Afghan border, residents said.

ABC News: Pakistani Military Sources Say Zawahiri May Be Dead
Today, according to Pakistani military sources, U.S. aircraft attacked a compound known to be frequented by high level al Qaeda operatives. Pakistani officials tell ABC News that al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s top lieutenant, may have been among them.
U.S. intelligence for the last few days indicated that Zawahiri might be in the location or about to arrive, although there is still no confirmation from U.S. officials that he was among the victims.
The attack took place early this morning Pakistan time in a small village a few miles from the border with Afghanistan.
Villagers described seeing an unmanned plane circling the area for the last few days and then bombs falling in the early morning darkness.
Eighteen people were killed, according to the villagers who said women and children were among the fatalities.
But Pakistani officials tell ABC News that five of those killed were high-level al Qaeda figures, and their bodies are now undergoing forensic tests for positive identification.
Officials say Zawahiri was known to have used safe houses in this area last winter and was believed to be in the area again this winter.
Zawahiri, who appeared just last week in a new videotaped message, had increasingly been taking the operational reins of al Qaeda, and is thought by U.S. officials to be the current true mastermind of the terrorist group.
Pakistani officials tell ABC News that the bodies of the five suspected al Qaeda figures will be recovered at first light in Pakistan, but it will still take a day or two for any kind of positive identification. U.S. officials in Washington did not comment.
GOOD – let’s hope it is al-Zawahiri.

President Bush is targeting the U.S. accounts of leading government officials and others in Zimbabwe, saying those who work to support President Robert Mugabe must restore democracy or face sanctions.
The White House announced Wednesday that Bush had signed an executive order Tuesday blocking all property and financial holdings in the United States owned by 128 people and 33 farms and businesses in Zimbabwe. It also bars U.S. citizens from having financial dealings with them.
This action is not aimed at the people of Zimbabwe, but rather at those most responsible for their plight,” said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.
Bush already had issued sanctions against Mugabe and 76 other officials under an executive order signed in March 2003. Tuesday’s order included 75 from that list and added 53 others, and it applied sanctions to their immediate family members. It also allows the secretary of state and treasury secretary to expand the list without a presidential order.
Kudos to the President.
But, he has to do MORE.
The President must pressure the European Union to join the United States in imposing strict and appropriate economic sanctions (including a trade embargo and prohibitions on investment) on Mugabe’s government like they did in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s against the apartheid government of South Africa.
Moreover, the President must meet with President Mbeki of South Africa and obtain a memo of understanding that land reform (land ownership resistribution without fair compensation under the rule of law) in Zimbabwe will not spread along the continent of Africa and South Africa in particular. Mbeki has been AWOL on the issue of the authoritarian rule of Mugabe. If he wishes to lead a democratic country he must reject the ruthless criminal dictatorship of Mugabe.
Bush said that since the first order, conditions in Zimbabwe had continued to deteriorate.
“The government continues to suppress opposition groups and civil society, undermine the independent media, ignore decisions by its courts, and refuse to enter into meaningful negotiations with other political actors,” Bush wrote in a leader to congressional leaders. “Zimbabwe’s parliamentary elections in March 2005 were not free or fair. Recent demolitions of low income housing and informal markets have caused 700,000 people to lose their homes, jobs, or both. Additional measures are required to promote democratic change.”
The United States has refused to recognize Mugabe as winner of last March’s presidential election, which was seen widely as rigged.
Mugabe led Zimbabwe to independence from Britain in 1980 and had its name changed from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe, harking back to a great city in the country built by an advanced ancient culture. Mugabe has become increasingly authoritarian, spearheading media controls and takeovers of white-owned farms.

Funny, the newsletter was silent on Scott’s unsuccessful efforts to deprive Laci’s mother of life insurance proceeds from the death of Laci. I guess that was not newsworthy.

George Galloway Watch: Hitchens Calls Galloway’s BLUFF

The Senate uncovers a smoking gun.Just before my last exchange with George Galloway, which occurred on the set of Bill Maher’s show in Los Angeles in mid-September, I was approached by a representative of the program and asked if I planned to repeat my challenge to Galloway on air. That challenge—would he sign an affidavit saying that he had never discussed Oil-for-Food monies with Tariq Aziz?—I had already made on a public stage in New York. Maher’s producers had been asked, obviously by a nervous Galloway, to find out whether I had brought such an affidavit along with me. I replied that this was not necessary, since his public denial to me was on the record and had been broadcast, and since it further confirmed the apparent perjury that he had committed in front of the U.S. Senate on May 17, 2005. I added that I wanted no further contact with Galloway until I could have the opportunity of reviewing his prison diaries.
That day has now been brought measurably closer by the publication of the report of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. This report, which comes with a vast archive of supporting material, was embargoed until 10 p.m. Monday and contains the “smoking gun” evidence that Galloway, along with his wife and his chief business associate, were consistent profiteers from Saddam Hussein’s regime and its criminal exploitation of the “Oil for Food” program. In particular:
1) Between 1999 and 2003, Galloway personally solicited and received eight oil “allocations” totaling 23 million barrels, which went either to him or to a politicized “charity” of his named the Mariam Appeal.
2) In connection with just one of these allocations, Galloway’s wife, Amineh Abu-Zayyad, received about $150,000 directly.
3) A minimum of $446,000 was directed to the Mariam Appeal, which campaigned against the very sanctions from which it was secretly benefiting.
4) Through the connections established by the Galloway and “Mariam” allocations, the Saddam Hussein regime was enabled to reap $1,642,000 in kickbacks or “surcharge” payments.

George Galloway has challenged the United States to charge him with perjury after he was accused of lying to a Senate committee over the UN oil-for-food programme in Iraq.
Galloway, a strident opponent of the Iraq war, said he was “completely bemused” by fresh allegations that he personally solicited and received eight oil vouchers from Saddam Hussein’s regime between 1999 and 2003.
During sworn testimony in May the bombastic left-winger told a US Senate subcommittee investigating the oil-for-food scheme that he never benefitted from the controversial programme.
The Senate governmental affairs subcommittee on investigations will hand over its findings in a report to the U.S. Justice Department and to British authorities, said panel chairman Senator Norm Coleman.

Speaking to BBC radio on Tuesday, Galloway said: “I did not lie under oath in front of the Senate committee.”
He said he had not seen the latest allegations from the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, which he accused of being “cavalier with any idea of process and justice”.
Galloway added: “I’m still willing to go to the United States and still willing to face any charge of perjury in front of that Senate committee.
“I’m demanding that they charge me with contempt and with perjury, I’m demanding it.“If a Senate committee can go on the international airwaves without putting this to you, without sending me an advance (copy) and accuse me of lying under oath in front of a Senate committee, then I demand they charge me with perjury — and I’ll be on the next plane to face it.”
Flap is looking forward to George Galloway’s return to the USA and he is sure that Senator Norm Coleman is as well.
Led by Senator Norm Coleman, the investigative arm of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs has been studying reports of corruption surrounding the 1996-2003 UN Iraq oil-for-food programme.
Coleman’s group has focused its attention on individuals it believes took illegal benefits from the programme, which was aimed at allowing sanction-hit Iraq to sell a limited amount of oil to buy food and medicine for its people.
Besides Galloway, Coleman’s committee has accused senior officials at the United Nations and top Russian and French politicians, of taking money or oil allocations from the program.
Two former high-ranking French diplomats — including the country’s representative to the United Nations between 1991 and 1995 — have been placed under criminal investigation by a French judge looking into the matter.

George Galloway has strongly refuted new allegations that he pocketed money from Saddam Hussein’s scandal ridden oil-for-food programme and lied about it under oath.
The US Senate committee investigating the Respect MP’s alleged involvement in the saga claims to have discovered £85,000 (150,000 dollars) in Iraqi oil money in his wife’s bank account.
Mr Galloway may face criminal charges if found to have given false testimony to the committee when he defended himself against similar claims in a passionate showdown earlier this year.
The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has accused him of giving “false and misleading testimony” at the May 17 hearing.
Mr Galloway, who used the headline-grabbing appearance as the basis for a new book, denied being an oil trader, soliciting oil allocations or instructing anyone to do so on his behalf.
But Republican Senator Norm Coleman, who chairs the committee, claims to have obtained new evidence proving that Saddam’s regime granted oil allocations to the Bethnal Green and Bow MP and his Mariam Appeal fund.
The committee’s new report accuses Mr Galloway of personally soliciting and being granted eight oil allocations totalling 23 million barrels from the Hussein government between 1999 and 2003.
It claims that his estranged wife, Dr Amineh Abu-Zayyad, received approximately £85,000 (150,000 dollars) in connection with one allocation of oil.
