Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Lower Public Profile for Mayor?
Screenshot from KNBC Video where Mayor attempts to avoid reporter Ana Garcia
Is the Mayor attending fewer public events?
And why not? He will be dogged with questions about his affair with Mirthala Salinas until he supplies the records requested by KNBC and comes clean about the long time affair.
Of course, this will affect his divorce case with wife, Corina.
Between a rock and a hard spot, you say?

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Has Mirthala Salinas Moved into Getty House?
Getty House is the official residence of the Mayor of Los Angeles
ERS News reports Mirthala and Mayor Villaraigosa are spending alot of time at Getty House, the Mayor’s official residence.
The Mayor’s wife, Corina, and their children reportedly have moved back to the family Mount Washington residence in East Los Angeles.
The Mayor and Ms. Salinas can do what they like but isn’t this a little quick – especially with the Mayor’s divorce pending?
Shoe shopping is one thing but living at the official City Mansion is well – classless.
Update:
Ana Garcia of KNBC Channel 4 Los Angeles has a piece on tonight’s news. She asks the Mayor directly to supply his public records which were requested by Garcia and KNBC News weeks ago and which have been blocked by his attorneys.
Is that Anita Moreno in his security detail attempting to block Ana Garcia from asking the Mayor questions? Or who is it?

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Shoe Shopping with Mirthala
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Mirthala Salinas
TMZ and CBS have picked up on a Mayor Villar-Salinas sighting.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and suspended Telemundo anchorwoman Mirthala Salinas were seen spending some quality time shoe-shopping together at San Fernando Valley’s Fashion Square Mall, according to celebrity Web site TMZ.com.
According to TMZ, the Mayor made no objections to being photographed with Salinas at the mall, but he did ask to approve the photo.
What a laugh. The Mayor wants to approve the photos when he is out in public with his new lady?
He is definitely shorter than Mirthala, now isn’t he? Or is it the perspective of the video?
During the course of a television interview on June 19, 2006, Villaraigosa walks with Salinas outside the state Capitol.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Water Conservation – Setting an Example
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, left, takes questions with Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster during a news conference at the port of Los Angeles in the San Pedro section of Los Angeles, Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. Villaraigosa was to talk about clean-fuel trucks but instead was peppered with questions about the suspension of his girlfriend Telemundo newscaster Mirthala Salinas.
The Los Angeles Times has a piece this morning exposing Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other City of Los Angeles officials as HEAVY water users. Why is this a surprise?
Mayor Villar needs to shower often to wash off the “stink” of corruption from his scandalous sexual affairs, including the latest one with Telemundo political reporter Mirthala Salinas.
Enough said.
Update:
Kevin faults the City Attorney, Rocky Delgadillo for NOT paying his water bill. This is easily explainable:

Telemundo on their nationally televised newscast tonight announced the results of their three week ethics investigation regarding Mirthala Salinas and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The disciplinary action for Salinas will be a two month unpaid leave. At the end of 2006, KVEA management and the station’s political reporter mutually agreed that she should be reassigned to a beat that would not involve reporting on the Mayor of Los Angeles or city politics,” Telemundo network president Don Browne wrote in a statement released Thursday afternoon. “This decision, consistent with our guidelines, was made on the basis of a friendship that had developed between the reporter and the mayor. In April 2007, she was given the role of temporary news anchor and read lead-ins and other materials involving stories on the mayor and politics. This decision conflicted with our guidelines and with management’s prior decision.
“Her reading of copy during newscasts on June 8 and June 11 regarding the mayor’s separation from his wife was a flagrant violation of these guidelines. The failure to respond appropriately in the following weeks further compounded these errors.”
The complete statement of Don Browne, Telemundo President is here.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa tells reporters, “I have a relationship with Ms. (Mirthala) Salinas, and I take full responsibility for my actions.†Salinas is an evening anchor for Telemundo, Channel 52.
Two other Telemundo employees will also be disciplined:- Telemundo 52 President and General Manager Manuel Abud has been reassigned from his position.
- President of the Telemundo Television Stations Division, Ebra Morales, was reprimanded.
Well, the result is pretty much how Flap called it, now isn’t it?
Ok, Flap said a paid leave and/or settlement. So, they slapped Mirthala’s hand a little harder.
And, besides, she can now hang out with the Mayor at Getty House while his divorce proceeds through the courts.
Mirthala keeps her job and dignity, while Mayor Villar is placated that his girl friend is not summarily fired and humiliated.
Sounds like a win-win for the Mayor and Mirthala.
NBC Universal, the parent company of Tlemundo, also keeps on the good side of the Mayor whom they need for their massive Universal City development project.
A win for NBC.
A WIN-WIN-WIN.
Flap continues to believe there will be a Los Angeles County Grand Jury investigation over this entire scandal.
Stay tuned…….
Update #1
Eric Longabardi is going to report on ERSnews.com that the investigation covered the time from late 2005 to July 5. That’s all. It didn’t cover Salinas and Fabian Nunez. It didn’t cover Salinas and Alex Padilla. It didn’t cover Salinas and other powerful men, including those at Telemundo.
Telemundo has a book of standards and practices. Salinas clearly violated the conflict of interest provision.
The Poynter Institute was used unpaid to advise on the case and therefore won’t comment about it.
As for the comment about this damaging Telemundo credibility, who says Telemundo has credibility in the first place?
Agreed Luke, but NBC had to keep the Mayor and his planning department happy.
Corina will exact her pound of flesh and make life miserable for Villar. In fact, the divorce is the beginning of the end of his political career.
Los Angeles Pols are lining up to take a shot at Vilaraigosa.
Update #2
Check out the commenting at the Los Angeles Times and over at Mayor Sam’s.
Update #3
Mirthala is not doing so well in the LA Times poll:
Telemundo 52 reporter Mirthala Salinas, top left in red, at a news conference by Villaraigosa outside Gov. Schwarzenegger’s office in Sacramento on June 20, 2006, when the mayor was stumping for a bill that would give him more control over the L.A. Unified School District.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: The Source
Kevin Roderick has the poop on who started the FLAP of the Villaraigosa – Salinas affair scandal.
So, who was the source of Luke Ford’s post about the Mayor no longer wearing his wedding ring and not being seen with his wife, Corina, for months?
Why, it was Daily News reporter Tony Castro, who couldn’t get his piece published in the newspaper.
The role of blogs – to boldly publish, where no one has published before.

The Miguel Contreras Learning Complex Pool Flap
The Miguel Contreras Learning Complex opened across the street from the Los Angeles Chamber at 3rd and Bixel on Sept. 5, 2006 to 1,800 students.
Looks like Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Vilaraigosa, his parks department and the Los Angeles Unifed School District is in trouble again.
The water was off-limits. But it certainly seemed somebody was all wet Tuesday afternoon at an Olympic-size swimming pool near downtown Los Angeles.
Was it Vilma Cortez, who was standing outside 3rd Street’s new Miguel Contreras Learning Complex, demanding that its high school pool be open to neighborhood kids such as her own three children, who are whiling away the summer sitting in their nearby apartment?
Was it Los Angeles Unified School District administrators, who say the pool is already plenty used by students enrolled in campus summer school programs?
Maybe the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, which insists the school pool was never designed for public access and lacks shallow kiddie wading areas, adequate showers and locker facilities?
Or perhaps Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, whose staff has voiced concern that public access to the pool is impractical from both a safety and liability standpoint?
What is the real problem here?
Is it perhaps the Mayor does not want to draw attention to the residents of this community who are primarily illegal aliens? Does he want to keep the rift-raft and Mexican Gang Bangers out?
Or does he wish to defuse criticism that the City and LAUSD are spending public money on illegal alien kids?
Flap understands that KFI’s (640 AM Los Angeles Radio) John and Ken will weigh in on this story this afternoon.
Stay tuned…….
The $160-million campus features three small learning communities and one autonomous New Technology High School, the Los Angeles School of Global Studies.
The Chamber and its affiliate UNITE-LA have been integral partners and instrumental in the development of the campus, which will equip students with 21st century skills to help them excel in an information-based, technologically advanced society.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Pay to Play at LAUSD
John Torres, right, special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, holds a Ruger Mini-14, a .53-caliber semiautomatic rifle, one of several weapons seized or bought undercover, as Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, left, and City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo listen at a Los Angeles news conference after law enforcement authorities fanned out across harbor areas of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., early Tuesday, July 31, 2007, in a huge sweep of gang members aimed at taking down violent offenders. Hundreds of federal agents and local police officers took part in the campaign that started at around 4 a.m.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Vilaraigosa spent over $3.5 million on Los Angeles Unified School District races to gain allies on the LAUSD Board, reports the Los Angeles Times.
And it is the usual “PAY TO PLAY” in the City.
Los Angles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at Panda Express opening at Universal City Walk, JUly 25, 2007
If you want a development project approved, you contribute to the Mayor’s pet project – the control of Los Angeles City Schools.
To help his candidates, Villaraigosa turned to an array of companies seeking to do business at City Hall, including real estate developers, media companies and potential tenants at Los Angeles International Airport.
Partnership for Better Schools received $25,000 from Entravision Communications Corp., a Santa Monica-based Spanish-language media firm that, according to its lobbying forms, is seeking new “advertising opportunities” with the city.
The committee also took $50,000 from Panda Restaurant Group, which hopes to obtain restaurant concessions at LAX. And it received $100,000 from New York City-based Fig Central LLC, which is seeking permission from Villaraigosa’s appointees on the Planning Commission to build an 860-unit condominium complex across the street from Staples Center.
And, once you have your amigos installed as LAUSD Board members, they vote to waive the reimbursement of legal fees owed the District from the failed Mayoral efforts to “take over” the LAUSD.
Flap asks: Is there a Grand Jury operating in Los Angeles County?

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Villaraigosa Tries Again to Shift Focus
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa poses with his wife Corina prior to an event in Hollywood, California, November 2005. Villaraigosa is in the full glare of the media feeding frenzy, as he confessed that he had been unfaithful to Corina, his wife of 20 years, who filed for divorce last month.
Rick Orlov over at the Los Angeles Daily News discusses the attempt of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to shift the focus away from the Mirthala Salinas, Universal City Development and Univision scandals and back to his accomplishments in office.
Swamped in controversy over his personal life, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has been frustrated in his attempts to shift attention back to his accomplishments during his first two years in office.
So, like any good salesman, he is sending his troops on the road to try to get the message out, as well as gather feedback on what community leaders would like to see.
Deputy Mayor Larry Frank, the affable liaison to neighborhood councils, has been meeting with various leaders in quasi-focus groups, accompanied by department heads from city agencies including Transportation, Environmental Affairs and Public Works.
The Mayor has an uphill fight.
Everyone is waiting for the NBC Telemundo decision on the fate of his girl friend, Mirthala Salinas.
And his soon to be ex-wife, Corina Villaraigosa, is doing events and seemingly enjoys putting the knife into his back and twisting.
In the meantime, rumors abound about former Mayor James Hahn looking at challenging Villaraigosa in two years. Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yarolslavsky is also looking at the race.
Stay tuned……..
