Antonio Villaraigosa, California Election 2010, Dianne Feinstein, Gavin Newsom, Jack O'Connell, Jerry Brown, John Garramendi, Steve Westly
Poll Watch: Dianne Feinstein Leading in Democrat Field for California Governor
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. talks with Central Intelligence Agency Director nominee Leon Panetta on Capitol Hill in Washington, Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, prior to the start of Panetta’s nomination hearing before the committee. Feinstein initally voiced concerns over Panetta’s appointment.
This is not too much of a surprise. In a previous poll, it is apparent that California voters like Feinstein and prefer her over the rest of the Democrat field.
The poll results:- U.S.Senator Dianne Feinstein: 36%
- Attorney General Jerry Brown: 14%
- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom: 9%
- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa: 9%
- Lt. Gov. John Garamendi: 4%
- Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell: 3%
- Ex-Controller Steve Westly: 1%
- Undecided: 22%
But will the DiFi run for Governor? She is 75 years old and is the new Chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Jerry Brown is definitely running but can Feinstein who has always coveted the Governorship ignore these poll results?
Stay tuned…….

Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: The Mayor’s “OTHER WOMAN” Mirthala Salinas Moves On
Telemundo Channel 52 Political Reporter Mirthala Salinas announces “on air†her boyfriend, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s separation from his wife.
Mirthala Salinas has moved on from her romantic relationship with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. In an interview in Los Angeles Magazine she explains and apologizes.
Read the entire interview here.
Key Graphs:
- Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez: By 2001, she had become a reporter and weekend anchor at Channel 52. Two years later, she began dang Assemblyman Fabian Núñez, who would soon become speaker. Núñez, she says, “had been divorced for eight or ten years.†Their relationship posed no ethical conflict with her work, she says, because she was not a political reporter, never interviewed him, and did no stories about issues in which he was involved. She says she told her supervisors about the relationship. “It was never a big deal.â€
- She says that she and Núñez were serious. “I mean, we met families. But I think the timing…he was in Sacramento, I was here. He was busy, I was working weekends. It was just hard.†After six or eight months, she says, they broke up. Núñez eventually remarried his former wife. Before the breakup, however, Salinas became a friend of his good friend Villaraigosa.
- Senator Alex Padilla: Alex Padilla? Where, Salinas wondered, had that name come from? She says—and a Padilla aide confirms—that she and Padilla had never done anything more than attend a couple of public events as friends. Indeed, almost comically old-fashioned, Salinas says she has been in love fewer than a half dozen times in her adult life.
- Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa: “I trusted him, and I know he trusted me.†They didn’t talk about marriage, she says. But “he was so protective of me once the relationship became public, I know he loved me.â€
- In October, Mirthala Salinas’s affair with Antonio Villaraigosa came to an end.“I think it just got to the point where we both realized that it wasn’t working out as that kind of a relationship,†she says. “I don’t know what it was, I don’t know if it was being on everybody’s mouth, under the scrutiny of everybody. When I talk to my friends, they think that’s what it was.â€
And, now Salinas has a new job at W Radio (690 AM) and a new boyfriend (actually a retread) who she plans to marry.
From the Mirthala Salinas – Yanni Raz website
Flap ALMOST feels sorry for Mayor Villar. He was PLAYED a FOOL and serves up a valuable lesson for politicians (and others) who think with their extremities instead of their head.
Oh, and good luck Yanni, you will NEED IT.

Antonio Villaraigosa Running Again for Mayor of Los Angeles

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is one of the rising stars in the Democratic party. He’s the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles in recent history and he also serves as a co-chairman to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
He discusses the state of the Clinton campaign after her losses in Wisconsin and Hawaii. He also discussed the dilemma that immigration reform poses to politicians across the country.Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says he intends to run for re-election in 2009.Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa informed a national television audience this week that he intended to seek a second term in the city’s top post while giving some of his most personal remarks to date about the political fallout from his extramarital affair.
But Villaraigosa, who informally has discussed his reelection intentions off and on for a couple of months, did not say directly whether he would run for governor in 2010, one year after the mayoral election.
In a wide-ranging interview with public television’s Charlie Rose on Wednesday — stemming from his support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton — the mayor was asked about his gubernatorial ambitions.
Rose quoted an unnamed supporter of Villaraigosa who said the mayor “is thinking more about being governor than he is about being mayor.”
Of course, Mayor Villar will have to win re-election against Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky before entertaining any thought of running for Governor in 2010.
Flap’s bet is that the Mayor will have a difficult time in elective politics anytime soon.

Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Affair with Mirthala Salinas Is OVER
Telemundo Channel 52 Poitical Reporter Mirthala Salinas announces “on air†her boyfriend, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s separation from his wife.
It’s OVER.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and television news reporter Mirthala Salinas have ended their romantic relationship, two sources familiar with the situation said Friday.
Months after revelations about the affair damaged the mayor’s political standing and devastated Salinas’ broadcasting career, the two sources said the relationship disintegrated weeks ago.

Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Mirthala Salinas Resigns from Telemundo
Telemundo Channel 52 Poitical Reporter Mirthala Salinas announces “on air” her boyfriend, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s separation from his wife.
Salinas Will Not Return To Telemundo-KVEA 52
Newscaster Mirthala Salinas and Spanish-language network Telemundo have “mutually agreed to end” her employment with KVEA, according to a statement from the station.
KVEA management said in a statement: “Telemundo-KVEA 52 and Mirthala Salinas have mutually agreed to end our employment relationship effective October 1, 2007. We are not in a position to make any further comment on our discussions with Ms. Salinas surrounding her departure.”
As Flap predicted earlier, Mirthala whose contract expired in three months would NOT be back.
And why should she? Did she not receive a settlement from her employers?
Now, the question is: how much of a settlement did she receive from NBC-Telemundo?
Or is Mirthala content with playing house with the divorcing Mayor Villaraigosa? The Los Angeles Times reports that the Mayor and Salinas are continuing to see each other.
Stay tuned as this story now turns to Mayor Villaraigosa’s financial relationship with Salinas and Los Angeles City lobbyists.
And what about those documents and e-mails from the Mayor that KNBC demanded back in July?

Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Mirthala Salinas Transferred to Riverside
City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa is interviewed by reporter Mirthala Salinas of Telemundo at Factor’s Famous Deli on May 19, 2005 in Los Angeles
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s girlfriend, suspended Telemundo Channel 52 reporter and news anchor will PERHAPS be returning to work next week but NOT in Los Angeles.Mayor’s girlfriend being transferred to Riverside
Newscaster Mirthala Salinas, who was suspended without pay for two months in August after her affair with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa became public, is scheduled to return to work next Monday. But she won’t be taking up her old job as a fill-in anchor on the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts for Telemundo KVEA Channel 52, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Instead, Salinas will be sent to the station’s Inland Empire bureau in Riverside as a reporter, sources said, a notable fall for a one-time rising star who has become one of the most recognizable faces in local Spanish-language news.
Which is what a reputable and ethical news organization would have done many months ago – transfer her to a venue where there would be NO conflict of interest.
Mirthala’s contract expires with NBC Telemundo in December and there have been rumors that she may resign and not report to the Inland Empire assignment.
There have also been rumors that her contract will not be renewed in any case.
Anybody out there stalking Getty House? Is she living with the Mayor? Or is the Mayor living with her in the Valley at her Los Angeles lobbyist sponsored condo?
It is reasonable to believe that Mirthala will stay home and play first lady of Los Angeles – after the Mayor’s nasty divorce is over in a few months.
Stay tuned……….
Villaraigosa and Salinas wait out a pause in filming on the north steps of the state Capitol. Salinas is now a news anchor on Telemundo 52, June 19, 2006 (now on leave).

Fugitive Democrat Fundraiser Norman Hsu’s California Contributions Under Scrutiny
*****Update*****
Norman Hsu turns himself into authorities and is jailed.
A top Democratic fundraiser wanted as a fugitive in California turned himself in Friday to face a grand theft charge.
San Mateo County Superior Court Judge H. James Ellis ordered Norman Hsu handcuffed and held on $2 million bond. A bail hearing was scheduled for Sept. 5, at which the judge will consider reducing his bail to $1 million.
Hsu appeared in court accompanied by a lawyer and publicist, both of whom declined to say whether the New York apparel executive would immediately post bail. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he skipped the sentencing for a 1991 grand theft charge.
In the ensuing years, Hsu became a top donor to numerous Democratic candidates and was a fundraiser for presidential contender Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He also had contributed to Sen. Barack Obama’s past Senate campaign and his political action committee.
Norman Hsu, a convicted felon fugitive and Democrat Fundraiser for Hillary Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton
Well, they have been active in California state and local politics as well – to the tune of $53,000.
Let’s see who received the obviously TAINTED money:
Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles
California Attorney General Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris
Former San Francisco Supervisor and now California Democrat Assemblywoman Fiona Ma. She represents Daly City where the Paw family residence is.
Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot
Democrat Congresswoman Doris Matsui (middle right)
Former California Controller and Democrat candidate for Governor in 2006, Steve Westly
Former California Treasurer and Democrat nominee for California Governor in 2006, Phil Angelides
Hsu et. al. have also given considerable sums to the California Democrat Party.
According to state and local records, Hsu has given more than $53,000 to various political efforts in the state since 2004, including $27,600 to the state Democratic Party, $5,000 to 2006 gubernatorial hopeful Steve Westly and $10,000 to Hollywood director Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot.
The state party gave $26,600 of that money back three weeks after Hsu donated it in 2004, said Bob Mulholland, a party consultant.
“Mr. Hsu asked for the money to be returned, saying he had made the donation in error,” Mulholland said. “We haven’t returned the $1,000 he gave us earlier this year, but the party will be looking at that contribution.”
Calling the Federal Elections Commission and the California Fair Political Practices Commission, what in the hell have you been doing?

She seeks damages and the City has 45 days to either accept or reject the claim.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Watch: Ana Garcia Spurned Reporter?
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Ana Garcia KNBC Television Reporter
Graphic Courtesy of ERS News
Flap reported previously on the confrontation of KNBC Channel 4 television reporter Ana Garcia and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa last Friday. She asks the Mayor directly to supply his public records which were requested by Garcia and KNBC News weeks ago and which have been blocked by his attorneys.
Now, remember it was Ana Garcia (who previously was Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo’s communication director) who reported a piece for KNBC when the Villar-Salinas scandal first broke. KNBC is owned by the parent company NBC Universal who also owns Telemundo where Mirthala Salinas is a suspended reporter.
Ana Garcia’s first piece is here.
If you recall the first piece was regarding the Mayor shacking up with Mirthala in her Valley condominium prior to Rosa Park’s funeral. In fact, he stayed so long that he had to fly to the funeral via a private jet paid for by a major campaign contributor and former employer, Ameriquest Corporation. Ana Garcia and KNBC requested the Mayor’s calendar and public papers, including e-mails from his Blackberry during this time.
Mirthala Salinas’ condominium in Studio City according to KNBC
The Mayor’s stonewalling and unwillingness to forward KNBC his papers and e-mails set up Friday’s confrontation. The conventional wisdom initially (at the time of the first Ana Garcia piece) was that KNBC was overcompensating for the fact that “EVERYONE” at KNBC Channel 4 knew Mirthala Salinas (next door at Telemundo) was having an affair with the Los Angeles Mayor. They ignored the story and looked the other way. Now with the scandal breaking they must appear to be an impartial AND ethical news organization – which everyone knows they are NOT.Flap surmised that would be the last peep out of KNBC television and Ana Garcia until last Friday
So, why the continuing FLAP?
It cannot be the Mayor shopping for shoes with Mirthala or the release of his e-mails.
ERSNews says it is because Ana Garcia was SPURNED by the Mayor?
Professionally spurned or does ERSNews know something that they can only report in code?
Ana Garcia is incensed with regards to Mayor Villaraigosa in some way. Could it be the pursuit of the truth? Is she a friend of or supportive of the Mayor’s wife, Corina? Does she just think the Mayor is a liar and a cheating bastard?
Or is there something else?
Update:
In an email from Eric Longabardi of ERSNews.com he says Garcia has her first piece wrong:
1. The photo of Mirthala Salinas’ condominium is incorrect
2. Mayor Villaraigosa left Los Angeles for Detroit and Rosa Park’s funeral after midnight and NOT 11:20 or 11:30 PM, according to FAA records which are different than the Mayor’s schedule.
Now, Flap has to ask: Why aren’t Garcia and KNBC checking their facts? Is this why they want the Mayor’s records and e-mails? Or is it sloppy on purpose?

Jack O’Connell Watch: California Governor in 2010? Part 3
California Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O’Connell
Jack O’Connell gets a mention in today’s Dan Walter’s column.
Of course, Jack will test the waters burning Reed Hasting’s money but others also will:
- Jerry Brown – current California Attorney General, former Mayor of Oakland and former California Governor.
- Steve Westly – former California Controller who lost to Phil Angelides last year in the Democrat primary for Governor.
- Phil Angelides – former California Treasurer and Democrat Party Chairman who lost to Arnold Schwarzenegger last year in the general election.
- Gavin Newsom – current Mayor of San Francisco who admits to sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife and carrying on a sordid affair.
- Antonio Villaraigosa – current Mayor of Los Angeles who admits to an affair with Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo political reporter and who is in the middle of a nasty divorce.
- John Garramendi – current Lt. Governor of California who many Democrat activists describe as yesterday’s news.
- Bill Lockyer – current California Treasurer and former California Attorney General who flirted with the race against the Governator last year but was scared out by Angelides and Westly or was it Arnold’s poll numbers?.
So, who has the campaign resources to compete against high profile Jerry Brown?
Steve Westly
