Harry Reid Then……Harry Reid Now……
- April 19, 2007: “I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — that this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq,†Mr. Reid said.
- December 21, 2007: Ray, you can’t have it both ways. The president said, “Let’s send some more troops over there, and that will give the Iraqis the time to take care of themselves.” We sent other troops over there, and there are a lot of reasons the surge certainly hasn’t hurt. It’s helped. I recognize that.
Bad Call Senator……..and why the American people do not trust you and the Democrat Party to lead in time of war.

Dingy Harry Reid Lays an Egg Over Rush Limbaugh Letter
Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry “DINGY” Reid attempted political hardball against Rush Limbaugh and, well, laid an egg.
Remember the phony soldiers Flap?
And remember that Dingy Harry wrote a letter of complaint to the Mark Mays, Chairman of Clear Channel, the radio conglomerate which carries Rush Limbaugh’s radio show.
Mark Mays, the CEO of Clear Channel’s response to “Dingy Harry’s” letter is here.
So, the original Reid letter has fetched over $2 million on eBay and Rush will match this amount to assist the children of Marines and law-enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
And, Reid’s hypocritical response:
REID: MADAM PRESIDENT, EARLY THIS MONTH I CAME TO THE FLOOR TO DISCUSS SOME COMMENTS MADE BY RUSH LIMBAUGH. FOLLOWING MY REMARKS, MORE THAN 40 OF MY SENATE COLLEAGUES AND I CO-SIGNED A LETTER TO THE CHAIRMAN OF CLEAR CHANNEL, MARK MAY, TELLING HIM THAT WE WANTED HIM TO CONFER WITH RUSH LIMBAUGH REGARDING THE } STATEMENTS HE MADE. I’VE SINCE SPOKEN TO MARK MAY ABOUT THIS. MARK MAY, IN FACT, CALLED ME REGARDING THIS LETTER. THIS WEEK, RUSH LIMBAUGH PUT THE ORIGINAL COPY OF THAT LETTER UP FOR AUCTION ON E-BAY. MR. PRESIDENT, WE DIDN’T HAVE TIME, OR WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN EVERY SENATOR TO SIGN THAT LETTER. BUT HE PUT THE LETTER UP FOR AUCTION ON E-BAY AND I THINK VERY, VERY CONSTRUCTIVELY, LEFT THE PROCEEDS OF THAT IT GO TO THE MARINE CORPS LAW ENFORCEMENTS FOUNDATION. THAT PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE TO MARINES AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WHOSE PARENTS FALL IN THE LINE OF DUTY. WHAT COULD BE A MORE WORTHWHILE CAUSE? I THINK IT’S REALLY GOOD THAT THIS MONEY ON E-BAY IS GOING TO BE RAISED FOR THIS PURPOSE. WHEN I SPOKE TO MARK MAYIC HE AND I THOUGHT THIS PROBABLY WOULDN’T MAKE MUCH MONEY, A LETTER WRITTEN BY DEMOCRATIC SENATORS COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMETHING. THIS MORNING, THE BID IS MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR THIS. WE HAVE WATCHED IT DURING THE WEEK. IT KEEPS GOING UP-AND-UP AND UP. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT ON IT. BUT IT CERTAINLY IS GOING TO BE MORE THAN $2 MILLION. NEVER DID WE THINK THAT THIS LETTER WOULD BRING MONEY OF THIS NATURE. AND, FOR THE CAUSE, MADAM PRESIDENT, IT IS EXTREMELY GOOD. NOW, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT RUSH LIMBAUGH AND I DON’T AGREE ON EVERYTHING IN LIFE AND MAYBE THAT IS KIND OF AN UNDERSTATEMENT. BUT WITHOUT QUALIFICATION MARK MAY, THE OWNER OF THE NETWORK THAT HAS RUSH LIMBAUGH AND RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS LETTER THAT THEY’RE AUCTIONING IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT RAISES MONEY FOR A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE COULD DO MORE IMPORTANT THAN HELPING TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN OF OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS AND POLICE OFFICERS WHO HAVE FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION. THINK OF THIS, MORE THAN $2 MILLION — THAT WILL REALLY HELP. THAT’S, AGAIN, AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT SO I WOULD ASK THOSE THAT ARE WANTING TO DO MORE, THAT THEY CAN GO TO HARRY REID LETTER AND IT WILL COME UP ON E-BAY. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE INTERESTED WITH THE MEANS TO CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING TO THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE WHEN WE CAN PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE, EVEN HARRY REID AND RUSH LIMBAUGH, WE SHOULD DO THAT AND TRY TO ACCOMPLISH GOOD THINGS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS DOES THAT, MADAM PRESIDENT. MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR A LETTER SIGNED BY THIS SENATOR AND MY FRIENDS.
OWNED…….
Update:
ABC News credits the Democrats for raising the money.
The bidding ends at 1:00p.m. No mater what, Democrats are going to make a ton of money for a charity off their political vitriol.
How pathetic to be SO biased.

Harry Reid Watch: Reid – American Military Leaders are “INCOMPETENT”
Reid labels military leader ‘incompetent’
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “incompetent” during an interview Tuesday with a group of liberal bloggers, a comment that was never reported.
Reid made similar disparaging remarks about Army Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said several sources familiar with the interview.
This is but the latest example of how Reid, under pressure from liberal activists to do more to stop the war, is going on the attack against President Bush and his military leaders in anticipation of a September showdown to end U.S. involvement in Iraq, according to Democratic senators and aides.
Isn’t this the same Democrat Senate Majority leader who “SURRENDERED” to President Bush on Iraq War funding just last month?
Reid lost and now needs to snipe at commanders in the field.
Nice and real classy – especially since he voted to confirm General Petraeus in January.
Flap supposes Reid needs to serve up some blue meat for his LEFT flank.
But, what about Iraq War policy?
Reid will NOW schedule a series of votes to hamper the Bush Defense Department.
Besides his comments about Pace and Petraeus, the Nevada Democrat also announced that he wants to hold more votes on ending or scaling back the U.S. military presence in Iraq.
He said Democrats would use an upcoming Defense authorization bill to continue the struggle with Bush over the conduct of the war, especially Bush’s “surge” plan to send more U.S. forces to Baghdad and surrounding regions in order to quell growing sectarian violence.
More political sniping is on the horizon. If Reid and the Democrats had ANY COJONES they would vote to defund the Iraq War and take responsibilities for the consequences.
But, they won’t. It is much easier to snipe, criticize and hold votes over and over again.
For Democrats, the Defense authorization bill is an attractive vehicle for their fight because the legislation sets policy, not funding levels, for the Pentagon, so Bush and Republicans cannot use the argument that Democrats are threatening to cut off funding for U.S. troops in the field.
Reid calling the Generals incompetent is the pot calling the kettle black. The Democrat controlled Congress has slumped in poll approval ratings and Reid must now compensate. So, look for more Iraq War votes, political posturing and ad nauseum carping on President Bush Iraq War policy.
Has Reid overplayed his hand in satiating the LEFT?

Iraq War Watch: Iraq Surge a Failure
Iraq surge a failure, top Democrats tell Bush
Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that his Iraq troop “surge” policy was a failure.
Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over Iraq by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.
“As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results,” the two leaders wrote.
“The increase in US forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation.
“It has not enhanced Americas national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on US forces have increased.
“In fact, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for US troops.
The letter appeared to preview a fresh showdown over Iraq between anti-war Democrats and the president, just a few weeks after Bush forced his foes to strip troop withdrawal timelines from a 100 billion dollar emergency war budget.
And the Democrat leaders can assess the Iraq War situation how?
Senate Majory Leader has already stated that the Iraq War was LOST. Yet, he and his Democrat colleagues capitulated to the President a few weeks ago and funded the “surge.”
So, is this more political posturing?
You betcha
The Surrender Monkey Democrats had NO COJONES to defund the troops so they will snipe at the President and HOPE/ENCOURAGE his policy fails.
There is nothing like being on the same team with the Democrats. Is there?
Pelosi and Reid told Bush in the letter that they planned to send him new legislation to “limit the US mission in Iraq, begin the phased redeployment of US forces, and bring the war to a responsible end.”
On Tuesday, Reid said that Senate Democrats would attach troop withdrawal deadlines to a Defense Department Authorization bill, due to be debated within weeks.
This legislation will meet a certain veto by President Bush. So, why are Reid and Pelosi pushing for an Iraq War surrender?
Why, to score cheap political points and appease their anti-war LEFT flank.
Disgraceful……..

Illegal Immigration Watch: Reid’s Cloture Motion Fails – Is Senate Immigration Bill DEAD?
*****Update*****A second cloture vote has failed in the Senate and Majority Leader Reid has “pulled” the bill from the Senate floor. The Senate will move onto other legislation. The Senate Immigration bill has DIED in the Senate for now.Senator Reid has stated there may be ways to amend the current bill.Senators will work on acceptable amendments and Reid bring the bill back for another cloture vote.
When will this be?
Probably NEVER.
Senate Refuses to Limit Debate on Immigration Plan
The Senate refused to limit debate on overhauling U.S. immigration law as Democrats urged President George W. Bush to rally Republicans to rescue the legislation.
The 33 votes to shut off debate were 27 short of the 60 needed by Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada to bring to a conclusion debate on legislation to grant legal status to 12 million undocumented aliens. He said he would seek another vote later today.
Reid appealed to Bush to twist the arms of Republicans who voted against limiting debate, saying an inability to pass the legislation would produce headlines that the “president fails again.”
“This is the president’s bill. He has worked long and hard,” Reid said. “This bill that’s on the floor is not a Democratic bill, it is a bill that was worked on by Democrats and Republicans in cooperation with the president.”
Looks like the Senate Immigration Bill is on life support after Senate Majority Leader’s Cloture motion failed this morning. Reid has previously stated that he’d pull the bill from the floor if he doesn’t get 60 votes, saying there’s been ample time to debate and vote on this bill — and that he’s got an ambitious legislative schedule ahead.
But, what Reid is NOT saying is the Democrat leadership wants to prohibit GOP corrective amendments that the GOP base demand. So, he blames President Bush.
Damn…. Reid sounds like a broken record – blame Bush.
The bill looks dead.
Let’s hope so.
Update:
Apparently not.
There will be another cloture vote this evening.
Even after it failed this morning, Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid says there will be an identical procedural vote later today on the immigration reform bill. That vote, which requires 60 for passage, would limit debate and amendments and put the bill on the path to a final vote. It failed earlier 33-63, with all the Republicans and about a third of Democrats voting against Reid.
Moments ago in a off-camera briefing, Reid said if the vote failed again he’d pull the bill from the floor indefinitely saying, “the bill’s over with. The bill’s gone.” He never said it was dead, but indicated he clearly had other priorities to put before the Senate in the coming weeks.
If the GOP fails to block this bill, there will be an uprising of the GOP base. If Senators like Trent Lott ( who spoke this morning) think the GOP voter base will sit still for this, they are sadly mistaken.
There WILL BE an angry reaction for this GOP lay down.
And CONSEQUENCES.

Michael Ramirez on Harry Reid’s Surrender on Iraq War Funding
Reuters: Bush signs $100 billion Iraq war funding bill
U.S. President George W. Bush signed a bill on Friday providing $100 billion to pay for the
Iraq war but congressional Democrats who failed to impose a troop withdrawal deadline said their fight was far from over.Passage of the emergency spending legislation capped a four-month struggle between Bush and a new Democratic-controlled Congress determined to force him to shift course in the unpopular war.
Bush had vetoed an earlier bill that would have required him to begin withdrawing soldiers from Iraq by October 1, and he had vowed to kill any legislation carrying restrictions on troop deployments.
With Democrats lacking the votes to override the president and the war funds running out, a divided Congress passed a compromise measure on Thursday.
Harry Reid WIMPED OUT.
Now, Drudge is reporting that President Bush will be pulling troops out of Iraq next year in any case.
Bush wins…….

Iraq War Watch: Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid – War in Iraq is LOST
“War in Iraq lostâ€: US Democrat leader
The war in Iraq “is lost†and a US troop surge is failing to bring peace to the country, the leader of the Democratic majority in the US Congress, Harry Reid, said Thursday.
“I believe … that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week,†Reid said, on the same day US President George W. Bush was giving a speech at an Ohio town hall meeting defending the war on terror.
Sen. Reid an embarrassment to LDS Church membership
David Broder: The Democrats’ Gonzales = Harry Reid
Hailed by his staff as “a strong leader who speaks his mind in direct fashion,” Reid is assuredly not a man who misses many opportunities to put his foot in his mouth. In 2005, he attacked Alan Greenspan, then chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, as “one of the biggest political hacks we have here in Washington.”
He called President Bush ” a loser,” then apologized. He said that Bill Frist, then Senate majority leader, had “no institutional integrity” because Frist planned to leave the Senate to fulfill a term-limits pledge. Then he apologized to Frist.
Most of these earlier gaffes were personal, bespeaking a kind of displaced aggressiveness on the part of the onetime amateur boxer. But Reid’s verbal wanderings on the war in Iraq are consequential — not just for his party and the Senate but for the more important question of what happens to U.S. policy in that violent country and to the men and women whose lives are at stake.

Paul Nowak on Senator Harry Reid’s Iraq War is LOST
Democrats challenge Bush on Iraq bill
A historic veto showdown assured, Democratic leaders agreed Monday on legislation that requires the first U.S. combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.
“No more will Congress turn a blind eye to the Bush administration’s incompetence and dishonesty,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) said in a speech in which he accused the president of living in a state of denial about events in Iraq more than four years after the U.S.-led invasion.
Bush, confident of enough votes to sustain his veto, was unambiguous in his response. “I will strongly reject an artificial timetable (for) withdrawal and/or Washington politicians trying to tell those who wear the uniform how to do their job,” he told reporters in the Oval Office as he met with his top Iraq commander, Gen. David Petraeus.
