The taxi controversy at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has caught the nation’s attention. But the dispute may go deeper than the quandary over whether to accommodate Somali Muslim cabdrivers who refuse to carry passengers carrying alcohol. Behind the scenes, a struggle for power and religious authority is apparently playing out. …
When I asked Patrick Hogan, Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman, for his explanation, he forwarded a fatwa, or religious edict, that the MAC had received. The fatwa proclaims that “Islamic jurisprudence” prohibits taxi drivers from carrying passengers with alcohol, “because it involves cooperating in sin according to the Islam.”
The fatwa, dated June 6, 2006, was issued by the “fatwa department” of the Muslim American Society, Minnesota chapter, and signed by society officials.
The society is mediating the conflict between the cab drivers and the MAC. That seems odd, since the society itself clearly has a stake in the controversy’s outcome.
How did the MAC connect with the society? “The Minnesota Department of Human Rights recommended them to us to help us figure out how to handle this problem,” Hogan said. …
What is the Muslim American Society? In September 2004 the Chicago Tribune published an investigative article. The society was incorporated in 1993, the paper reported, and is the name under which the U.S. branch of the Muslim Brotherhood operates.
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. The Tribune described the Brotherhood as “the world’s most influential Islamic fundamentalist group.”Because of its hard-line beliefs, the U.S. Brotherhood has been an increasingly divisive force within Islam in America, fueling the often bitter struggle between moderate and conservative Muslims,” the paper reported.
The international Muslim Brotherhood “preaches that religion and politics cannot be separated and that governments eventually should be Islamic,” according to the Tribune. U.S. members emphasize that they follow American laws, but want people here to convert to Islam so that one day a majority will support a society governed by Islamic law.
Come on. Screw these Muslims. If they don’t wish to accept a fare for whatever Islamic reason and they own the cab great – don’t accept it. If not, get another job, man.

A week ago, it appeared likely that Muslim taxi drivers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport would win special dispensation to avoid transporting alcohol-carrying passengers. The Metropolitan Airports Commission had proposed to give those Shar’i-minded drivers an off-colored light atop their cabs, allowing them to remain in queue while customers with bottles found other cabs.
I opposed this “two-light solution,” arguing in “Don’t Bring That Booze into My Taxi” that it intrudes Islamic law into a mundane transaction of American commercial life. I urged readers who share my views to write the commission to make known their views.
On October 10, a few hours after my article first appeared, the commission met and reversed itself on the two-light solution.
And now the Muslims think they can come here and begin to impose their Sharia religious laws?

AUSTRALIA’S leading Muslim cleric, Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali, says he will only resign when the world is “clean of the White House”.
After emerging from Friday prayers at Lakemba Mosque today, Sheik al-Hilali was asked by a media pack whether he would quit over a speech in which he said scantily-dressed women invited rape.
“After we clean the world of the White House first,” the sheik said.
Supporters of the sheik cheered and applauded loudly at the comments, which were directed firmly at US President George W Bush.
The sheik has previously described Mr Bush, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prime Minister John Howard as the axis of evil.
Despite calls from within the Islamic community for his resignation, Sheik Alhilali has been assured he has the support of grass-roots Muslims, a supporter said.

Supporter and president of the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia, Keysar Trad, says the sheik will not resign but is taking a break which will include a pilgrimage to Mecca.
John Howard should make sure the good Shiek stays in Saudia Arabia. This Shiek is a MORON and very typical of the fundamentalist Islamists who wish to spread Islam throughout the western world.
Women of the West should mind his comments on “UNCOVERED MEAT” because believe it or not this is what they truly believe.
Mr Zrika said Sheik al-Hilali is not speaking for all Muslims and the LMA hopes to meet with him again shortly to discuss his situation.
Mr Zrika fears the sheik’s comments will cause a serious divisions within Muslims and a backlash from the wider Australian community.
He also asked Prime Minister John Howard and other politicians to stay out of the debate.
“Leave the Islam community to the Islam community,” he said.

The row in Britain over Muslim women wearing the veil could trigger riots and worse, the country’s race relations watchdog chief warned.
Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, said the divisions exposed in the debate that his dominated British media for more than two weeks risked sparking “fire” on the streets.
He said the friction between communities risked becoming “the trigger for the grim spiral that produced riots in the north of England five years ago. Only this time the conflict could be much worse”.
“All the recent evidence shows that we are, as a society, becoming more socially polarised by race and faith,” Phillips wrote in The Sunday Times newspaper.
“The only place where this may not be true is in our schools and the main reason is that in many of our cities things cannot get any worse.”
He called for a “civilised” debate on race.
Britain needs not a “civilised” debate or a decision as to whether they wish to cede British society and culture to the Muslims.
France is already witnessing a “permanent infitada” with daily attacks on police and car burnings.

Lynne Stewart, 67, was convicted in February 2005 of helping her imprisoned client, Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, to contact the Islamic Group — listed by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization — with messages prosecutors said could have ignited violence in Egypt.
She is the only U.S. lawyer to be indicted on terrorism charges.

for Providing Aid and Comfort to al Qaeda
WASHINGTON – A former resident of Orange County, Calif., has been indicted in the Central District of California on charges of treason and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization for making a series of propaganda videotapes for al Qaeda, the Department of Justice announced today.Adam Gadahn, 28, also known as Azzam al-Amriki or Azzam the American, “gave al Qaeda aid and comfort … with intent to betray the United States,†according to the treason count in the indictment. The two-count superseding indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Santa Ana, Calif., today also charges Gadahn with providing material support to al Qaeda.
Gadahn is the first person to be charged with treason against the United States since the World War II era.
Al Qaeda, which has claimed responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks around the world, including the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks against the United States, has been designated a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. Secretary of State since 1999.
Gadahn appeared in several videotapes that were broadcast between October 2004 and Sept. 11, 2006. In the first tape, Gadahn announced that he had joined al Qaeda, “a movement waging war on America and killing large numbers of Americans,†and that “the streets of America shall run red with blood.â€
In another al Qaeda videotape made in September 2005, around the time of the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Gadahn called the attacks “the blessed raids on New York and Washington.†Discussing “jihad against America,†Gadahn referenced terrorist attacks in London and Madrid and stated, “Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Allah willing.â€
Earlier this summer, Gadahn appeared in another videotape that also contained statements from al Qaeda leaders Usama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri. In another videotape that was broadcast around the world on Sept. 2, 2006, Gadahn encouraged American soldiers to “escape from the unbelieving Army and join the winning side.†Recently, in a videotape released to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, Gadahn praised the pilots involved in the attacks and referred to the United States as “enemy soil.â€
“Adam Gadahn is a U.S. citizen who made a choice to join and act as a propagandist for al Qaeda, an enemy of this country responsible for the horrific deaths of thousands of innocent Americans on Sept. 11, 2001,†said Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty. “The War on Terror is a fight for hearts and minds, and Gadahn gave himself to our enemies in al Qaeda for the purpose of being a central part of their propaganda machine. By making this choice, we believe Gadahn committed treason – perhaps the most serious offense for which any person can be tried under our Constitution.â€
“Adam Gadahn represents a new breed of home-grown extremist, who has chosen to betray the country of his birth, and align with the al Qaeda terrorist network,†said FBI Executive Assistant Director Willie Hulon, National Security Branch. “Based on this indictment, Gadahn was added today to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List.â€
“By aligning himself with al Qaeda, by moving overseas to be closer to al Qaeda’s base and leadership, and by joining in advocating al Qaeda’s terrorist agenda, an agenda that includes the overthrow of the United States government and the murder of American citizens, Adam Gadahn has committed treason against the United States of America,†said U.S. Attorney Debra Wong Yang of the Central District of California. “The charges returned today by a federal grand jury demonstrate that the criminal justice system will not sit passively by while a United States citizen engages in such activities.â€
Gadhan, 28, is a fugitive who is believed to be overseas, and has been added to the FBI’s list of Most Wanted Terrorists. The Rewards for Justice Program, run by the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, is offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to Gadahn’s arrest or conviction.
The charge of treason carries a range of penalties from a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in jail to a maximum sentence of the death penalty. The charge of providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization carries a potential sentence of 15 years in prison.
The Gadahn case was investigated by the FBI’s Orange County Joint Terrorism Task Force in Santa Ana, California. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, with assistance from the Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division – formerly part of the Criminal Division – at the Department of Justice.

Reuters: U.S. weighs first treason charges in over 50 years
A California-born convert to Islam could become the first American accused of treason since World War Two after he appeared in al Qaeda videos, sources familiar with the man’s case said on Wednesday.
They said U.S. prosecutors were strongly considering bringing the charges, which carry a maximum punishment of death, against Adam Gadahn, 28, who is believed to be overseas and is not in U.S. custody.
The charges could come as early as Wednesday.
The U.S. Justice Department last brought treason charges, during the World War Two era, the sources said.

American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Yahiye Gadahn is to face treason charges, federal sources told CNN on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old California native who has appeared in five al Qaeda videos will also be charged with offering material support for terrorism, the two sources said.
His indictment was to be returned in Los Angeles and will be announced at 4 p.m. ET in Washington by the Justice Department, one of the sources said.

Five years after Arab terrorists attacked the United States, only 33 FBI agents have even a limited proficiency in Arabic, and none of them work in the sections of the bureau that coordinate investigations of international terrorism, according to new FBI statistics.
Counting agents who know only a handful of Arabic words — including those who scored zero on a standard proficiency test — just 1 percent of the FBI’s 12,000 agents have any familiarity with the language, the statistics show.
The numbers reflect the FBI’s continued struggle to attract employees who speak Arabic, Urdu, Farsi and other languages of the Middle East and South Asia, even as the bureau leads a fight against terrorist groups primarily centered in those parts of the world. The same challenge is facing the CIA and other agencies as the government competes with the private sector for a limited number of applicants with foreign-language proficiency, according to U.S. officials and experts.
Well, the FBI and CIA need to identify young, middle age and older candidates, recruit college age/middle age students and offer them financial incentives including scholarships and loan forgiveness.
The United States has its national security at stake and intelligence/law enforcement services are of vital national interest.
The federal checkbook should be opened to train, and deploy qualified people to protect us.
And an ROTC type program based at colleges/universities would stimulate an immediate recruitment of language skills specialists.

Prime Minister Tony Blair and author Salman Rushdie praised a British official on Tuesday for raising the difficult issue of whether Muslim women visiting his office should remove their veils.
The comment by Jack Straw, a former foreign secretary who now is leader of the House of Commons, has plunged Britain into a debate over Islamic integration.
“It’s important these issues are raised and discussed, and I think it’s perfectly sensible if you raise it in a measured and considered way, which he did,” Blair said of Straw during an interview with British Broadcasting Corp. television outside his office. “I think we can have these discussions without people becoming hysterical either way about it.”
So Tony Blair and most folks in Europe would think – a discussion. But, the English-living Muslims think otherwise.
Rushdie, whose book “The Satanic Verses,” once led to death threats against him by Islamic clerics, told BBC radio that Straw “was expressing an important opinion, which is that veils suck, which they do. I think the veil is a way of taking power away from women.”
Straw said in a newspaper column published Thursday that he believes the veils favored by some Muslim women inhibit communication and are a sign of division in society. At his constituency office, Straw said he asks that veiled women reveal their faces, adding that the women have always complied, and a female assistant is always present.
On Friday, British media quoted Straw as going further, saying that he would prefer that Muslim women not wear veils at all. “I just find it uncomfortable if I’m trying to have a conversation with someone whose face I can’t see,” Straw told the BBC.
Many Muslims in Straw’s parliamentary district of Blackburn, in northwestern England, reacted with outrage.
Islamophobe is what Jack Straw is now being called. And Straw is being challenged by the RIGHT for the absurdity of the Labour Party’s immigration policies.
This is a discussion/argument about assimilation of cultures. But, do the Muslims living in England and who immigrated from the British colonies wish to assimilate into English life?

“I think the battle against the veil has been a long and continuing battle against the limitation of women, so in that sense I’m completely on (Straw’s) side.”

AN unholy alliance of Muslims and far-Right extremists was last night threatening Jack Straw’s future as an MP as he was accused of playing the race card in a bid to salvage his career.
Protesters took to the streets of Mr Straw’s Blackburn constituency yesterday to vent their fury over his call for Muslim women to stop wearing veils.
One Muslim community leader, who helped him to get re-elected with a reduced majority of 8,009 last year, described the remarks by the Leader of the Commons as “like a family member going against us”.
One in four voters in Blackburn, where Mr Straw has been MP since 1979, is a Muslim. It is believed many turned against him and the Government because of the Iraq war.
The far-Right British National Party is hoping to cash in on the mounting anger. It is drawing up a battle plan to split Mr Straw’s support at the next election.
Spokesman Dr Phil Edwards accused the MP of playing a “subtle” race card in a bid to boost his appeal with white working class voters.
“We have been saying this about Muslim dress for some time,” he said. “It’s all part of the problems of a multi-cultural Britain that he and the Labour Party helped to create.”
Just goes to show you that being an dimwitted Dhimmi politician doesn’t buy you any votes in England.
