Darwin Awards Watch: Rugby Fan Qualifies by Cutting Off His Testicles

He must have been nuts … Geoffrey Huish

    The Darwin Awards:

We salute the improvement of the human genome
by honoring those who remove themselves from it in really stupid ways.
Of necessity, this honor is generally bestowed posthumously.

This fellow will certainly qualify for an award.

The Sydney Morning Herald has Rugby fan can’t explain self-mutilation

A rugby fan who cut out his testicles with wire cutters to mark a Wales victory is at a loss to explain why he did it.

Geoffrey Huish, 31, performed the impromptu self-surgery in February when his beloved Wales beat world champions England.

After performing the deed, Mr Huish put his severed anatomy in a bag and took them to his local social club to show fellow fans.

He collapsed with blood loss and was rushed to hospital but surgeons could not reattach his missing parts.

Good God, can you even imagine……….?

Grab this conversation from the cutter……

He was put in a psychiatric ward but has no history of mental illness and was at a loss to explain why he did it.

“I’d told my pal Gethin Probert before the game that Wales didn’t stand a chance,” Mr Huish told The Sun.

“It wasn’t a bet but I said I’d cut my b*lls off if we won.

“I listened to the game on the radio at home by myself.

“After the match I got up for a pee and saw the cutters in the bathroom.

“Gethin had left them after repairing the chain on my toilet.

“I remembered what I’d said and thought he had left them for me.

“I thought ‘Oh no, I haven’t got to do anything like that have I’ and then I thought ‘You can do it’.

“So I started hacking away at my tackle.

“It took about 10 minutes and there was quite a bit of pain but I just kept going.

“The cutters were blunt so I had to keep snipping.”

After picking his testicles from the toilet bowl, he went to the social club.

“I went in and shouted out ‘I’ve done it!’,” Mr Huish said.

“I took my b*lls out and passed them in the bag to a friend.

“Some people then laid me on the floor.”

Mr Huish continues to see a psychiatrist.

“I think about what happened every day and still haven’t come up with a good reason why,” he said.

“I’d had a lot going on and felt a bit down.

“I can’t have kids now but still want a family – maybe I’ll adopt.”

Flap cannot imagine the pain and the psychological trauma and……..

    the high squeaky voice………… j/k

Canadian Adscam Scandel: Canadian Government Falls on No-Confidence Vote

    Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin

The ASSociated Press has Canadian Government Falls on No-Confidence

A corruption scandal forced a vote of no-confidence Monday that toppled Prime Minister Paul Martin’s minority government, triggering an unusual election campaign during the Christmas holidays.

Canada’s three opposition parties, which control a majority in Parliament, voted against Martin’s government, claiming his Liberal Party no longer has the moral authority to lead the nation.

The loss means an election for all 308 seats in the lower House of Commons, likely on Jan. 23. Martin and his Cabinet would continue to govern until then.

In a 171 to 133 vote, the House passed a historic no-confidence motion exactly one year and five months after Canadian voters elected the Liberals.

Opposition leaders last week called for the no-confidence vote after Martin rejected their demands to dissolve Parliament in January and hold early elections in February. Monday’s vote follows a flurry of spending announcements in Ottawa last week, with the government trying to advance its agenda ahead of its demise.

Martin is expected to dissolve the House of Commons on Tuesday and set a firm date for the elections. Under Canadian law, elections must be held on a Monday _ unless it falls on a holiday _ and the campaign period is sharply restricted.

Captain Ed over at Captain’s Quarters Blog who owns the Adscam Scandel Story has ‘This Government Has Lost The Moral Authority To Govern’

The Canadian Parliament approved a historic no-confidence motion against the Liberal executive in Ottawa this afternoon, dissolving the government and forcing elections weeks after the Gomery Inquiry issued its first comprehensive report on the Liberal corruption in the Sponsorship Program:…

I’m listening to the aftermath on CPAC, where the Liberal apologist wants to tell Canada that Adscam involved “a few Liberals”, but that “no one believes that it involved the party as a whole”. That apparently will be the line that the Liberals take in this election, along with a scolding tone about all of the great work that the Commons could be doing instead of holding another election seventeen months after the last one.

Well, that’s why elections get held — so that the Liberals can make that argument now that the country knows about the extent of the corruption. If they want to offer up the notion that just a few Liberals involved themselves in the money-laundering and featherbedding that went on in Adscam, I expect that the Tories and BQ will quote extensively from the Gomery report to remind voters of the extent of the corruption, including all of the money that flowed back into the Liberal Party through the government contracts given to cronies of Jean Chretien.

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin gives a thumbs-up to caucus members as he stands next to Transport Minister Jean Lapierre, right, after voting against a no-confidence motion in Ottawa, Monday, Nov. 28, 2005. Canada’s three opposition parties, which control a majority in Parliament, voted against Martin’s government, claiming his Liberal Party no longer has the moral authority to lead the nation.

It is about time the Canadian parliament was dissolved and new elections called.

Flap thought it would be this past summer but the politicians waited for the

of the Gomery Commission that is located here.

    READ IT ALL.

Will the Liberal Party of Paul Martin be able to explain away the rank corruption of their government?

Will Stephen Harper, leader of the Conservative Party, be able to form a majority or a minority-coalition government after the elections?

    Stay tuned…….

Nobel Peace Prize Watch: Nominate Patterico

    Patterico

Scott is RIGHT over at Powerline, Worthier (by far) than Arafat.

Patterico makes a good case as well, Nominate Patterico for a Nobel Peace Prize.

If you are a professor, judge, or legislator, then I want to hear from you. I want you to nominate Patterico for a Nobel Peace Prize.

    I’m dead serious about this.

I’m not asking because I think I somehow deserve it. I just want to mock the idea that being nominated is some great distinction. For example, I keep reading that murderer Stanley “Tookie” Williams was nominated for one, as if this is somehow relevant to whether he should be executed.

It’s not — because anyone can be nominated.

As Eugene Volokh explains, being nominated is really no big deal:

Any social science, history, philosophy, law, and theology professor, judge, or legislator in any country (plus a few others) can nominate anyone for a Nobel Peace Prize (past nominees, just in 1901-1951, included Hitler, Stalin, and Molotov).

Not to mention that murderer Yasser Arafat actually won one.

    OK!

    Flap is convinced.

    And if Tookie Williams………

    How about it, Hugh?

California Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham Admits Guilt and Resigns

A tearful Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham

The ASSociated Press has Calif. Congressman Admits Taking Bribes

Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators.

Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud and wire fraud, and tax evasion for underreporting his income in 2004.

Cunningham answered “yes, Your Honor” when asked by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties.

Later, at a news conference, he wiped away tears as he announced his resignation.

“I can’t undo what I have done but I can atone,” he said.

    Shameful!

Cunningham can receive up to ten years in federal prison.

    He forfeits his home.

Power corrupts or is it GREED?

Dentistry Today: Many Dentists “Set to Quit NHS”

Hundreds of dentists could walk away from the NHS before a new contract starts next year, dentist leaders say.

The British Dental Association warned a significant number of dentists in England were considering going totally private or taking early retirement.

Several dentists have already left, complaining the changes will not end the so-called “drill and fill” culture.

The BDA said the contract, which starts in April, does not give dentists enough time to do preventative work.

British dentists are tired of the Labour government dictating how dental care is delivered.

Privatization of dentistry in Britain is long overdue.

There are only about 300 dentists out of England’s 20,000 workforce who do solely private work.

Most do a mix of private and NHS work – commonly a third private, two thirds NHS.

But the move to more private work has been gathering pace for the last 15 years, with images of long queues for NHS dentists becoming increasingly common.

Last month, Tony Blair admitted he was powerless to stop dentists moving into the private sector, six years after promising within two years everyone would have access to an NHS dentist.

It is difficult to thwart the free market unless the government assumes total control and polices it with state power – like in the failed Soviet system. The British government has tried to rein in the dentists but their dental program is a disaster for their patients.

The Eden Dental Surgery in Carlisle went private two weeks ago, slashing its patient list from 5,500 to just under 3,000.

Principal dentist Elizabeth Mather said: “There was a lot of soul searching, but in the end we wanted time to do more preventative work and the new contract just doesn’t allow that.”

She said the practice was still hoping to treat children on the NHS, but it was unclear whether local health bosses will fund this.

John Latham, secretary of Manchester’s dentist’s committee, said a survey had found half of the city’s 230 dentists were “seriously considering” going private.

In south Manchester, the figure was as high as 74%.

He said: “Patients will find that NHS dentists will not be available.

“The problem is that it is not easy to measure preventative work, it is only in a generation or two that we will see the benefits.”

But Chief Dental Officer Barry Cockcroft denied claims it would not change the treadmill of “drill and fill”, whereby the more treatments dentists do, the more they earn.

He said: “These reforms will improve dental services for NHS patients, make NHS dentistry more attractive to dentists and promote a more preventive approach to improve oral health.”

British patients will not be pleased when they find their high tax rates will not provide them with dental care.

Will there be a tax cut?

Or a boom for private insurance?

And what role will the government play when the CRASH occurs?
