271856021 78eba7a500 o Senator Joe Lieberman Watch: First Debate Lieberman Accuses Lamont of Finger Pointing

Connecticut candidates for the U.S. Senate smile after taking part in a three-way debate in Stamford, Conn., Monday, Oct. 16, 2006. From left are, Republican candidate Alan Schlesinger; incumbent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, who is running as an independent; and Democratic Party candidate Ned Lamont.

AP: Rivals take shots at Lieberman in debate

Sen. Joe Lieberman might as well have worn a bull’s-eye during Monday’s debate with his Democratic and Republican rivals.

Democrat Ned Lamont labeled the three-term Connecticut senator a career politician in lockstep with President Bush on Iraq. Long-shot Republican Alan Schlesinger described himself as the only conservative in a race against two liberals, warning GOP voters about Lieberman’s mostly Democratic voting record.

Lieberman took the jabs and delivered a few of his own.

“His finger-pointing … is the last thing Washington needs more of,” Lieberman said of Lamont, accusing him of running a negative campaign.

Schlesinger is right about Lieberman – he is a Lefty except for the global war on terror, War in Iraq. And Lieberman is dead on when he accuses Lamont of running a negative campaign.

But, the facts remain:

Lamont is trailing in the polls and has never lead.

Lamont is writing his own campaign checks and is having difficulty raising campaign cash.

Lamont desperately needs a knock-out of Lieberman in order to beat the long-time incumbent and has failed to deliver.

The Big Fact:

LIEBERMAN WINS

217752603 bd42beb20c o Senator Joe Lieberman Watch: First Debate Lieberman Accuses Lamont of Finger Pointing

Allah Has the NUTS that Schlesinger won – according to the NUTROOTS, that is.

Daily Kos: Republican Alan Schlesinger, who was surprisingly impressive in the debate, made a clear distinction between himself and his two opponents on the immigration issue:

Atrios: Schlesinger for Senate

Crooks and Liars: Schlesinger came out fighting

Jane Hamsher: Finally. A Republican with the stones to tell Joe Lieberman to get off his damn lawn. Lieberman thought he was going to look “bipartisan” standing in between Ned Lamont and Alan Schlessinger during the debate today but he just looked like a man without a country, crying because everyone was trying to steal his candy. While Joe was praising every Republican in sight (Jodi Rell, John McCain, Susan Collins — funny, no Democrats)

myDD: Lieberman Crunched, Schlesinger Soars

How do you spell COORDINATED SPIN?

Ace hates them.

Flap thinks they are SELF-RIGHTEOUS DUMBASSES who underestimate the voters of Connecticutt.

MM thinks Lamont’s campaign has FIZZLED.

The most significant development of the campaign is how dispirited some of the unhinged Left now seem to be about the once-indomitable Lamont campaign. At HuffPo, Arianna’s begging for readers to “help save Lamont” and lamenting Lamont’s move to the center.

Stay tuned……

Reuters: Lawyer given 28 months for aiding terrorism

A New York attorney convicted of aiding terrorism by helping a client smuggle messages to militant followers was sentenced to 28 months in prison on Monday, CNN reported.

Lynne Stewart, 67, was convicted in February 2005 of helping her imprisoned client, Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, to contact the Islamic Group — listed by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization — with messages prosecutors said could have ignited violence in Egypt.

She is the only U.S. lawyer to be indicted on terrorism charges.

You have to be kidding, Flap.

This scumbag should have been charged with Treason and summarily executed. The United States Department of Justice should have made an example of her.

Wonder if she was permanently disbarred?

Probably NOT

Flap hopes she rots in Leavenworth or wherever.

271216790 eef77cc2cb o North Korea Watch: United States A Return to 6 Party Talks is Insufficient

A protester shouts slogans denouncing North Korea’s nuclear device test in front of Russian embassy in Seoul October 16, 2006.

Reuters: U.S. looks to China, Japan to act on N.Korea sanctions

The United States said on Monday it expected China to implement U.N. sanctions against
North Korea despite misgivings, and warned Pyongyang that merely returning to nuclear talks would not be enough to halt the punitive steps.

Japan said its Foreign Minister Taro Aso would meet U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon in Seoul on Thursday for a display of unity on North Korea, after Rice visits Tokyo earlier in the week.

“A return to six-party talks kind of doesn’t do it,” U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer told a small group of journalists. “You have to come to the six-party talks and agree on how you are going to implement the September 19 agreement.”

“If that implementation could then be verified by the international community, I think you would see walking back from the sanctions regime.”

North Korea agreed in principle at six-party talks in September 2005 to scrap its nuclear arms programs in return for aid, security assurances and promises of better diplomatic ties.

A very simple equation for Kim Jong-Il:

No nuclear weapons = No Regime change + No Sanctions + Foreign Aid and Investment

Stay tuned…..

269648449 9605a4796d o President 2008 Watch: Hillary McCain Was Doing the Bidding of the White House The Apology

New York Post: HILL’S SO SORRY OVER ‘VIET’ SLAP

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called John McCain yesterday to personally apologize and denounce comments an adviser of hers reportedly made slamming the GOP senator over his time in captivity in Vietnam.

The move from one potential 2008 presidential candidate to another was sparked by a column in The New York Times, in which Maureen Dowd quoted an anonymous adviser talking about McCain’s criticism of the Clintons over their North Korea position.

The adviser said Team Clinton thought McCain was doing the White House’s dirty work by criticizing the Clintons and ended up “looking similar to the way he did on those captive tapes from Hanoi, where he recited the names of his crewmates.”

That was a reference to an unsubstantiated rumor used to tar McCain, a Vietnam war hero, as off-kilter during the 2000 GOP presidential primary.

Right……..

The Clinton brand of politics.

Pathetic

But, get used to it. The November 2008 presidential campaign will be painfully LONG.
