Dentistry Today: New Cheating Scheme Rocks New Jersey Dental School
The Star-Ledger: New cheating scheme rocks dental school
A new cheating scandal has hit the state’s dental school, this time involving an elaborate scheme by students to secretly memorize test questions and distribute the answers.
At least four students at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey are facing dismissal and four others could be suspended for the remainder of the year or receive letters of reprimand, a school official said.
t is the second major cheating incident at UMDNJ’s New Jersey Dental School in less than a year. Nearly a quarter of last year’s graduating class was forced to perform up to a year of community service, and one student was denied a diploma, after the students were caught trading credits for clinical procedures they never performed.
Trading credits while NOT performing procedures is definitely something to consider for expulsion from the school/profession.
But copying old exam questions?
Cecile A. Feldman, dean of the dental school in Newark, expressed anger at the new scheme. “It’s clearly not something we accept at this university,” she said. “This is not what we do as professionals.”
The scandal involved the distribution of exam questions to students likely to take the exams the following year.
As many schools do, New Jersey Dental School releases old exams each year to provide students with an idea of the kinds of questions they will face. Those tests are typically distributed to incoming students as study aids. In fact, some schools create a formal archive of old exams for students to study.
However, a number of students at the dental school took the tradition to another level — gaining copies of exams that were still being used and never intended for release.
According to Feldman, the students came up with a clandestine operation to cull questions from the exams. She said they instructed other members of the class to memorize specified questions and set up e-mail accounts under false names so that nothing could be traced back to them. The questions would be e-mailed to other students for posting on a Web site, and the composite exams would be handed over as a gift to the next year’s class.
If the dental school Professors want to ban the use of previous tests, Flap suggests they take the time and write new examinations each year, instead of being lazy asses.
The school should open up the examination process and post all of the exams with answer keys on the library website. Every student, then, would have equal access to the material.
As for the professors, how about requiring the students to write essays for their examinations instead of asking the same ol’ multiple choice questions that can be scan graded? Oh yeah, it might require some time to grade them.

Hillary Clinton Watch: Two for One?
Could Bill Clinton take over his wife’s Senate seat if he becomes the first first husband? Some think so.
The Examiner: Some mull idea of Sen. Bill Clinton
If Hillary Rodham Clinton wins the presidency, some top Democrats would like to see her husband, former President Bill Clinton, appointed to serve out Hillary’s unexpired Senate term.
“As a senator, he’d be a knockout,†said Harold Ickes, who was once a top White House aide to Bill Clinton and now gives behind-the-scenes advice to Hillary. “He knows issues, he loves public policy and he’s a good politician.â€
Some Democrats and political analysts say Bill Clinton would thrive in the world’s greatest deliberative body, much like Lyndon Johnson did before he became president.
“President Clinton would excel in the Senate,†said Paul Begala, who helped Bill Clinton get elected and served in the White House as a top aide.
“Why not?†Begala added. “He excelled as attorney general and governor of Arkansas, he excelled as president and he’s been a model of the modern Senate spouse.â€
Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, agreed.
“Clinton is a natural for the Senate,†Sabato said. “He loves to talk and schmooze. He could be a great vote-organizer. Majority Leader Clinton?â€
A TWOfer and another reason not to vote for Hillary.
Flap thought the polls said voters were tired of the same ol’ politicos.
And why not a three-some?

Cox & Forkum: Crossroads
Cox & Forkum: Crossroads
The Washtingon Post: Not the ‘Real Vote’.
[Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.)] would stop the surge by crudely hamstringing the ability of military commanders to deploy troops. In an interview carried Thursday by the Web site MoveCongress.org, Mr. Murtha said he would attach language to a war funding bill that would prohibit the redeployment of units that have been at home for less than a year, stop the extension of tours beyond 12 months, and prohibit units from shipping out if they do not train with all of their equipment. His aim, he made clear, is not to improve readiness but to “stop the surge.” So why not straightforwardly strip the money out of the appropriations bill — an action Congress is clearly empowered to take — rather than try to micromanage the Army in a way that may be unconstitutional? Because, Mr. Murtha said, it will deflect accusations that he is trying to do what he is trying to do. “What we are saying will be very hard to find fault with,” he said.
Mr. Murtha’s cynicism is matched by an alarming ignorance about conditions in Iraq. He continues to insist that Iraq “would be more stable with us out of there,” in spite of the consensus of U.S. intelligence agencies that early withdrawal would produce “massive civilian casualties.” He says he wants to force the administration to “bulldoze” the Abu Ghraib prison, even though it was emptied of prisoners and turned over to the Iraqi government last year. He wants to “get our troops out of the Green Zone” because “they are living in Saddam Hussein’s palace”; could he be unaware that the zone’s primary occupants are the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy?
It would be nice to believe that Mr. Murtha does not represent the mainstream of the Democratic Party or the thinking of its leadership. Yet when asked about Mr. Murtha’s remarks Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered her support. Does Ms. Pelosi really believe that the debate she orchestrated this week was not “the real vote”? If the answer is yes, she is maneuvering her party in a way that can only do it harm.
Well, Jack Murtha and Hillary Clinton will have to put their votes where their mouths are, now won’t they?
Flap will look forward to the show…..

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy Opts Out of Religious Broadcasters Meeting
One of the “KINGMAKERS”Rudy Guliani Opts Out of Religious Broadcasters Meeting
Is Rudy Going to Ignore Evangelicals?
With the bare fact being that no Republican in recent memory has been able to win a major contest without at least the tacit backing of the religious right, Rudy Guliani might be trying to buck that trend. While on the surface it may seem like a bad gamble, is Rudy playing the smart card, letting the other candidates fight over the evangelical vote-and keeping himself clean from association with the far-right fringe in the process-hoping that he could hold all the cards at nomination time?
Starting February 17th and going through February 20th in Orlando, Florida, the National Religious Broadcasters will be holding their convention. And as one might expect, Republican candidates are lining up to try to woo the support of the evangelical leaders. For if the past is any indication, evangelicals tend to vote as their leaders suggest. There were some defections in 2006, but none major enough to change the paradigm. So what is Rudy thinking?
Rudy is thinking that he has double digit leads in most all of the national polls over his GOP challengers and that he should NOT have to pander to the Religious Evangelical Right. He will NOT receive their support or endorsements in any case.
However, by NOT pandering to them he may well be better positioned in the general election against Hillary Clinton.
Let McCain and Romney who have their own problems with James Dobson, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell pander and divide the Evangelical vote and campaign money. In the meantime, the large corporate GOP Donors including Hollywood Producers will feel more comfortable with a secular Giuliani campaign, open their wallets and fund the pre-Super Tuesday media campaign especially in large delegate rich non-Southern states.
Howard Fineman, writing for MSNBC, speaks about the ‘Three Kingmakers.” He is of course talking about Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and James Dobson. According to Fineman, Falwell has already decided on McCain and Robertson is favoring Romney. Leaving only James Dobson as the undecided of the three. The problem is this-how many Americans, in 2008, are going to trust the candidate who ends up with the majority of these three “Kingmakers” behind him?
So maybe Rudy Guliani is playing it smart. He knows that if he is the Republican candidate the evangelical voters will mostly do one of two things. Hold their noses and vote for him over the Democratic candidate, or stay home and not vote at all. Either way will help him.
James Dobson of Focus on the Family on John McCain: “I pray that we don’t get stuck with himâ€
Like Flap said the first time. The Evangelical Right IS becoming ILLELEVANT.Sorry Allah – this is NO death wish. Just the way it is and how Giuliani wins the Presidency.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Will NOT Suspend Uranium Enrichment
An Iranian technician works at the Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facilities (UCF), south of Tehran on 3 February. Iran reaffirmed it has no intention of suspending sensitive uranium enrichment despite a looming UN deadline, saying there were other ways to end the nuclear standoff with the West.
Reuters: Iran says will not halt uranium enrichment
Iran will not agree to suspend uranium enrichment as demanded by the U.N. Security Council, which has given Tehran until February 21 to halt sensitive atomic work, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
The United Nations slapped sanctions on Iran in December, barring the transfer of sensitive materials and know-how to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. It threatened further action if Iran did not heed U.N. demands.
How long will Israel and the United States tolerate this charade?
Will Israel strike unilaterally (with quiescent American support) due to the isolationist rhetoric coming from the Democrats in Congress?
More probable than not…….
Stay tuned……

Hillary Clinton Watch: Hillary Calls for 90 Days to Start Withdrawl from Iraq
U.S. Senator and Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) speaks at a campaign stop in Dover, New Hampshire, February 17, 2007.
Reuters: Clinton urges start of Iraq pullout in 90 days
U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, the early front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, has called for a 90-day deadline to start pulling American troops from Iraq.
Clinton, the wife of former President Bill Clinton, has been criticized by some Democrats for supporting authorization of the war in 2002 and for not renouncing her vote as she seeks the U.S. presidency in next year’s election.
“Now it’s time to say the redeployment should start in 90 days or the Congress will revoke authorization for this war,” the New York senator said in a video on her campaign Web site, repeating a point included in a bill she introduced on Friday.
Here is Hillary’s Roadmap for American DEFEAT in Iraq:
This is a CHEAP political stunt that undermines our troops and emboldens the Iraqi insurgents/Al Qaeda/Iranians/Sectarian religious militias – OUR ENEMIES.
And why?
Political compensation/dispensation for her vote to authorize the Iraq War in 202 with the LEFT and NUTROOTS.
Pretty pathetic, eh?
Remember there is nothing the Clintons, Bill or Hillary will not do for political power. This is your future commander in chief, folks?
Make NO mistake about it – Hillary is calling for America’s defeat.
Will Hillary and the LEFT Democrats (like Jack Murtha) be successful in deauthorizing the war or slow-bleeding it?
NO, but Hillary et. al. could precipitate a constituitonal crisis and a United States Supreme Court intervention to settle the issue on who is responsible to manage the war.
And, Flap agrees with Captain Ed. The Democrats MAY very well lose control of the United States Senate with Senator Joe Liberman flipping to the GOP.
Stay tuned…..
