Heart and Sarah Palin

Anne (L) and Nancy Wilson of Heart perform at the ‘Idol Gives Back’ show at the Kodak theatre in Hollywood, California April 6, 2008. The rock group Heart, angry that its 70’s hit ‘Barracuda’ is being used as the unofficial theme song for Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, is biting back at the Alaska governor.

Heart (Anne and Nancy Wilson) have asked Team McCain and Sarah Palin to stop playing their song “Barracuda.” Barracuda was the nickname of the Alaska Governor when she played basketball.

The ’80s rock band Heart is not happy about John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin using their song “Barracuda” at the Republican National Convention. (When the Alaska governor was a high school basketball champ, her teammates nicknamed her “Sarah Barracuda.)

“The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission. We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored,” the band said in a statement on Thursday.

But after McCain finished his speech accepting the GOP’s presidential nomination on Thursday night, Palin joined him on stage, and the song was used for the second time.

“I think it’s completely unfair to be so misrepresented,” Heart’s Nancy Wilson told EW.com after the speech. “I feel completely f—ed over.” She and sister Ann Wilson then e-mailed the following statement to EW:

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late 70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

Sheesh. Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign are not Al Qaeda.

As Flap said about the same damn thing when Jackson Browne sued the McCain campaign over his song “Running on Empty”: The danger for the LEFT in pursuing this tactic is for the RIGHT to organize boycotts of certain artists’ music.

Look what happened to Linda Ronstadt when she mixed politics and her performance in Las Vegas. There were massive walkouts during her performance and her gig was cancelled. Flap knows many Republicans who have long memories about artists who do hold political grudges.

And, the funny thing is that the Wilson sisters are making a ton of money on the re-emergence of their 1970’s song. Look at the charts from Amazon. At the time of this posting on Amazon.com, the song was the 97th most popular single MP3 download.

You would think from a purely business sense they would desire the free promotion Sarah Palin would give them.

Flap saw Heart at the Universal Amphitheater earlier this year. The tickets were given to Mrs. Flap by a mutual friend because they did not sell out the arena. Next time, Flap won’t bother - even for free.

usmagazinewithsarahpalin

Us Magazine is in trouble with subscribers angry over the above Us magazine cover. In fact, thousands are cancelling their subscriptions.

Three celebrity weeklies — OK!, People and Us Weekly — featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.

Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.

“I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions.

Is this surprising? The cover is biased crap that has no basis in reality. Why would anyone want to “PAY” to read this magazine.

Michelle Malkin has reader letters canceling their subscriptions and responses by Us Magazine desperately begging readers to stay.

Flap says Us Magazine readers must keep up the good work and cancel their subscriptions.

Now, about Oprah?

fox_news

From Matt Drudge:

MCCAIN SPEECH 10-11:15PM EDT

  • FOXNEWS 9.2 MILLION
  • NBC 8.7 MILLION
  • ABC: 6.0 MILLION
  • CBS: 5.3 MILLION
  • CNN 4.8 MILLION
  • MSNBC 2.5 MILLION

The previous night figures for Sarah Palin’s speech at 10 PM EDT:

  • FOXNEWS 9,038,000
  • NBC 7,720,000
  • CNN 6,114,000
  • ABC 5,050,000
  • CBS 4,630,000
  • MSNBC 3,277,000

Now, this is the REAL reason why Barack Obama finally consented to an interview and entered the “No Spin Zone” of Bill O’Reilly on Fox News.

Good job Fox News, keeping it “fair and balanced.”

Sarah-Palin-wont-be-on-Opra

Alaska Governor and GOP Vice President nominee Sarah Palin will NOT be invited onto Oprah Winfrey’s show prior to the election, according to a statement posted on Drudge.

OPRAH’S STATEMENT: “The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.”

It is Oprah’s show and she can do as she likes. But, the bias is striking and noteworthy with her blatant support of Barack Obama.

Perhaps many ordinary women, including Republican viewers will FINALLY realize that Oprah is a left wing ideologue that disguises her left dogma within the Hollywood type celebrity.

Or is Oprah just afraid?

One might assume that, given Winfrey’s demographics. The largest part of her audience is white females over 55 years of age. Almost four times as many women watch as men, although she does get about 1.7 million men a day to view her show.

How will that audience react to a freeze-out of Palin? Many want to see Palin speak to their issues, and might assume that the most successful woman in American entertainment would welcome the opportunity to make that introduction. Instead of making a business decision to do so, though, Winfrey has apparently made a political calculation that Palin will outshine the man she supports for President.

Oprah has miscalculated and is hurting Barack Obama. Want to bet that Oprah reverses her position and invites Sarah Palin on her show?

Day By Day090508

Day By Day by Chris Muir

Barack Obama played the sexism card against Hillary Clinton, nearly lost the Democrat nomination with working class women rebelling and spawned the PUMA movement at the Democrat National Convention.

Did anyone see (Flap knows no one cares) Gloria Steinem’s pathetic piece in the Los Angeles Times yesterday?

The backlash from ordinary American women voters has just begun.

++++++++++

Please do not forget the Day By Day fundraiser. Please go to Chris Muir’s Main Page here and give what you can.

The Day By Day cartoon series WILL be Chris Muir’s full time job now - let’s help him off to a great start in his new career.

Flap will be giving and hopes all of my readers will give graciously so that Chris can continue his excellent cartoon series.
