John McCain Watch: Health Care TV Ad – “Action”

John McCain talks about his health care reforms in a 60 second TV ad
With all of the hubbub of Jeremiah Wright at the National Press Club yesterday, John McCain’s first health care televison ad has almost slipped through the cracks.
What does McCain say?
Nothing glowing but promotes a $5,000 family tax credit to purchase health insurance.
Hillary and Obama have grand sounding health care reform plans that promise the world but mandate insurance and government redistribution to provide the care.
Rudy Giuliani had more of a private sector health care reform plan that McCain should adopt. Or, is that what McCain is trying to say?

Hillary Clinton Watch: Hillary Care 2.0
Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., speaks at the Service Employees International Union Political Action Conference in Washington, Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.
We all know that Hillary Clinton is a SOCIALIST in health care so the lastest spin on her universal health plan is NOTHING NEW.
Two questions:
1. Who is going to pay the enormous cost of the government program?
2. What will be the new government BUREAUCRACY and NEW RULES?
No HONEST answer so far on number one – partly because there is NO HONEST answer unless you say MASSIVE TAX INCREASES on EVERYONE.
Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday that a mandate requiring every American to purchase health insurance was the only way to achieve universal health care but she rejected the notion of punitive measures to force individuals into the health care system.
“At this point, we don’t have anything punitive that we have proposed,” the presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press. “We’re providing incentives and tax credits which we think will be very attractive to the vast majority of Americans.”
She said she could envision a day when “you have to show proof to your employer that you’re insured as a part of the job interview — like when your kid goes to school and has to show proof of vaccination,” but said such details would be worked out through negotiations with Congress.
And when Americans do NOT purchase health insurance then what?
Put them in jail? Or prohibit them from working? And the twelve million illegal aliens?
Hillary Care 2.0 like Hillary Care is ill conceived and SILLY.

The Dangers of Universal Health Care – Socialized Medicine
FOX News: John Edwards’ Universal Health Care Plan Would Make Regular Checkups
Mandatory.Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.
“It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,” he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. “If you are going to be in the system, you can’t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.”
‘NHS should not treat those with unhealthy lifestyles’ say Tories
Failing to follow a healthy lifestyle could lead to free NHS treatment being denied under the Tory plans.
But heavy smokers, the obese and binge drinkers who were a drain on the NHS could be denied some routine treatments such as hip replacements until they cleaned up their act.
Those who abused the system – by calling an ambulance when a trip to the GP would be sufficient, or telephoning out of hours with needless queries – could also be penalised.
The report calls for a greater emphasis on the “citizen’s responsibility” to be healthy and says no one should expect taxpayers to fund their unhealthy lifestyles. But heavy smokers, the obese and binge drinkers who were a drain on the NHS could be denied some routine treatments such as hip replacements until they cleaned up their act.

Do these systems, one proposed and one in practice sound like BIG BROTHER?
Well, when the government pays, the government will mandate and regulate.

Mitt Romney Watch: Romney Health Care 2.0 – Another FLIP for MITT
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney delivers his annual State of the Commonwealth, January 18, 2006. Massachusetts lawmakers overwhelmingly approved an ambitious health-care bill on Tuesday that would make it the first U.S. state to require nearly all residents to be insured or face penalties.
Is this another FLIP for MITT?
Apparently so……..
A far worse camel’s nose is the “universal” plan Mr. Romney championed in Massachusetts. As Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards put it, “If universal health care was good enough for Massachusetts, why isn’t it good enough for the rest of the country?”
It’s not an unfair question. Mr. Romney’s Bay State legacy is now praised by liberals as a prototype for national policy. That’s done a great deal to set back the kind of tax reform that he now espouses. The issue for GOP primary voters to consider is why he went in such a different direction in Boston. Granted, a mere Governor couldn’t restructure the federal tax code, and he was dealing with a far-left legislature. Yet his willingness to compromise in Massachusetts on core matters of principle, and then trumpet those statist policies as a “free-market” solution, raises questions about how far and easily he’d bend to a Democratic Congress.
Mr. Romney’s conversion to free-market health-care thinking is nonetheless welcome — assuming he believes it.
Flap has criticized the then Massachusetts Governor Romney for his “universal” and “socialized” plan. You know the one Hillary Clinton has praised and supported by Teddy Kennedy.
Sally Pipes over at National Review had this criticism.
Conservatives mostly understand the problems associated with the direct government provision of products and services — poor quality, shortages, high taxes, and shoddy service. What they must also understand is that forcing an individual to purchase health insurance is merely a rest stop on the journey to the same destination.
The best way to make health insurance available to the greatest number of people is to make sure that it can be provided at the lowest possible prices. Instead of abolishing the government regulations that have raised the cost of health insurance in Massachusetts, Governor Romney has proposed that the government should pay for the health insurance of the very people for whom the government made health insurance unaffordable.
But, wait, in Romney’s health care plan 2.0 he has eliminated the mandates he championed in Massachusetts.
The problem Mitt has had with his campaign is he simply is NOT CREDIBLE on the issues.
Health care is yet another in his flips and oddities.
And if this is not enough to convince ANY voter that Romney is NOT right for the Presidency, then check out his other inconsistencies and oddities:Scientology book one of his favorites

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: Health Care FLOP
The Wall Street Journal has a piece up today for subscribers describing the failure (FLOP) of the stalled California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s health care reform proposal.
Flap previously dismissed this misguided effort at universal socialized care with its concomitant tax increases here and here.
This proposal may not quite be dead but it is moribund. When the Governor has to travel to Fresno in the middle of the hot summer and fails to cajole and shame a recalcitrant California GOP State Senator to vote for his budget, it is doubtful that this controversial initiative will be able to obtain a 2/3 vote of the California Legislature.
In beating the drum for his plan, Mr. Schwarzenegger has often deplored what he calls the “hidden tax” of the current health-care system. Supposedly that describes the extent to which the costs of treating the uninsured shift to those who have insurance, thus making an argument for universal care.
Yet researchers at Stanford led by Dan Kessler ran the figures and demolished this claim. The total burden of this “cost shifting” in California amounted to only 2.8% of premiums in the 2000s. That’s not nothing, but in the Governor’s hands this modest hidden tax is an excuse for larger unhidden taxes. Perhaps the puncturing of this argument will prevent it from being deployed in the 2008 health-care debate, though don’t count on it.
If Arnold’s plan does fail, it will join “universal” health-care dreams in Illinois, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and other states that were also unveiled to hosannas but flopped once the fine print and costs were exposed. Alas, the failure of these state reforms probably won’t diminish political agitation for similar attempts that Democrats or Mr. Romney might propose in Washington. But it should.
There may be time (before the California Legislature adjourns at the end of September) for Schwarzenegger’s water infrastructure improvement proposals, including bonds for dams, Sacramento Delta improvement and a Peripheral Canal but Flap seriously doubts this health care plan is going anywhere except in the waste bin.

Cancer Survival Rates Worst in Western Europe
Cancer survival rates worst in western Europe
Dr Nils Wilking, a clinical oncologist at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, said: “Our report highlights that in many countries new drugs are not reaching patients quickly enough and that this is having an adverse impact on patient survival. Where you live can determine whether you receive the best available treatment or not.
“To some extent this is determined by economic factors, but much of the variation between countries remains unexplained. In the US we have found that the survival of cancer patients is significantly related to the introduction of new oncology drugs.”
The researchers, whose report is published in the journal Annals of Oncology, found that Austria, France, Switzerland and the US were leaders in using new cancer drugs.
Flap supposes the American healthcare system is not as broken as the LEFT here and in Europe want it to be – so as to further their government run and intrusive programs/solutions.
But, what do you know, patients in the United States receive more timely care and the latest drugs. And they live.
This is a surprise?
Quando and Captain’s Quarter’s have their take on the report.
