Chuck DeVore Quits California – Moves to Texas

    Former California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore

Maybe it is a case of a good job, the grass is greener over the next hill or political opportunities. In any case, former California Republican Assenblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore is moving from California to Texas.

Former GOP Assemblyman and U.S. Senate hopeful Chuck DeVore has given up his Orange County supervisor bid to move his family to Texas. While caring for aging parents was one factor in the move, the Irvine Republican also blamed California’s economic climate, writing in a statement on his website that he’s “found it hard to earn enough to support my family” since leaving office last year.

“My old aerospace clientele has fled to greener, less-expensive pastures Combined with the drain on our savings caused by six years of public service in the Assembly, we have come to the reluctant conclusion that it is time to move,” DeVore wrote.

DeVore has accepted a new job as a visiting scholar at the nonprofit Texas Public Policy Foundation, where he will write a book on “the Texas Model of how low taxes and low government spending, a light and predictable regulatory environment, respect for property rights, and a business-friendly legal climate has turned Texas into America’s jobs generating dynamo.”

He won’t be the only California transplant working for the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Joshua Treviño, a former legislative and campaign aide to DeVore, serves as the institute’s director of communications.

Well, Chuck burned his bridges in his U.S. Senate race against Carly Fiorina and his ol’ buddy Trevino left California for the Texas Public Policy Foundation after DeVore lost. So, perhaps this move is just a former employee helping his boss out getting a job.

I suspect it is more than this though.

DeVore had no where to go in California politics and he wants to run and hoild public office again.

DeVore is just a POL who wants to start anew.

    Good luck, Chuck.

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Preparing to Run for Irvine City Council?

Termed out California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore

Apparently the word is out on the street – Chuck DeVore is throwing in the towel and looking forward to his next race – Irvine Mayor or City Council.

I attended the Irvine Chamber of Commerce’s breakfast with the Mayor event last Friday.  I ran into a number of Irvine community leaders and more than a few of them asked me what I knew about Chuck DeVore running for city council or running for Mayor when he loses the Republican primary for US Senate in a few months like the decision was a done deal.  While the office is a step down for Chuck’s lofty asiprations of being elected to statewide or federal office representing California, he’ll be termed out in the Assembly and will need a job to continue a political platform to run for something else — governeror, Lt. governor, or some other statewide office.

This appears consistent with the polling in this race, plus political chatter and the fact that his Direcor of Communications, Joshua Trevino, was AWOL from the California Republican Convention earlier in March (presumably job hunting at SXSW).

But, Chuck may have a problem with running again for any position. He must successful defend the charge he misused his State of California staff for his U.S. Senate campaign.

    Good luck with that……..

How will this revelation affect the Republican U.S. Senate Primary election in June?

Well, voters can focus on the fact that Chuck Devore IS just another scum-sucking politician running from office to office. And, conservatives, will realize that DeVore has never been serious about this campaign, will turn away and vote for Carly Fiorina since Tom Campbell has always been a left-leaning RINO.

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Misused California Public Funds for US Senate Campaign?

Joshua Trevino (L), Communications Director for U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore

The answer may be yes if the facts in the below embedded complaint are indeed true.

And, then there is an issue with the reporting of any in-kind contributions for the DeVore Senate Campaign to the Federal Elections Commission. These issues are explored in the embedded complaint to the FEC below:

    FEC Complaint Chuck Devore

I, frankly, do NOT care what Joshua Trevino and Leisa Brug Kline do in their time away from State of California employment. And, I do not care that they love California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore so much that they wish to volunteer their time to get him elected to the United States Senate.

But, I DO care if my taxpayer dollars are being used to underwrite his campaign.

The investigation will continue, the election will come and go with DeVore not winning and there may even be a small penalty attached to this conduct.

For now, the main issue though is the poor judgment of Chuck DeVore.

Trevino and Kline should have taken a leave of absence from their State of California jobs when they began staffing DeVore’s campaign for U.S. Senate. If they were worried about salaried employment, DeVore should have paid them out of his campaign collections (he certainly has raised enough to pay them a decent salary). But, he didn’t.

    Why?

    Who knows?

    Was DeVore being cheap?

Or was DeVore just arrogantly naive or clueless of the appearances/repercussions?

In any case, the issue of impropriety has been raised and will be considered by the voters in June.

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Communications Director a NO SHOW at California GOP Convention?

Joshua Trevino (L), Communications Director for U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore

I remember last Fall, when Joshua Trevino, Chuck DeVore’s spokeshole ravaged Carly Fiorina for not attending the California Republican Convention because she was finishing up her treatment for breast cancer.

    Remember?

I saw this today on Twitter and really could not believe it. A spokesman and a paid one at that for California Republican Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore, Joshua Trevino,  mocking fellow Republican Carly Fiorina for not attending this past weekend’s California GOP Convention in Indian Wells.

    James Richardson has the FLAP.

And, today is the start of the Spring California Republican Party convention in Santa Clara, California. Carly Fiorina will address a Saturday luncheon.

    But, where is spokeshole Trevino?

Apparently, Trevino is not even in California but in Texas.

I guess with his candidate Chuck DeVore’s poor showing in the polls (7 per cent in the last one), there is no need for DeVore have a campaign team in place at the GOP convention.

So, has Trevino already given up on Chuck and trolling for a new gig at SWSX?

    Looks like it……

Josh why aren’t you in Santa Clara with your candidate?

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Boosts Up Carly Fiorina With HIS OWN Opposition Research

chuckdevoretweets CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Says Pro-Life While He Votes For Public Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

California Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore Tweeting

Oops Josh Trevino, Chuck DeVore’s spokeshole has done it again.

Campaign spokesman Josh Trevino alerted Chuck DeVore’s legions of followers and fans to a piece in the Washington Independent on the entry of Tom Campbell into the U.S. Senate race that seemingly provides ammunition to Carly Fiorina’s camp.

Trevino latched onto reporter Dave Weigel’s characterization of Campbell’s Senate candidacy as a “vote of no-confidence” in the Fiorina campaign.

The piece notes that Campbell, as finance director for Arnold Schwarzenegger, “helped muscle through” the 2005 budget. Legislative analysis noted, “that expenditures are projected to grow from $81.7 billion in 2004-05 to $90 billion in 2005-06, an increase of over 10 percent.”

So naturally one would assume DeVore stood opposed in all his conservative glory. But he actually joined with the Democrats and voted for the budget that also included funding for abortion.

This is pretty funny stuff. Chuck DeVore’s campaign bolstering the argument that Carly Fiorina is better on the issue of fiscal responsibility than himself. Every California voter knows the last few California budgets have been a disaster for the economy here.

It is almost as funny as DeVore’s op-ed today in the Washington Times on the issue of Afghanistan – where he flip-flops.

“As a result of culture and geography, Mr. Obama’s Afghan surge will likely fall short of its objectives while spending $40 billion per year. Employing conventional forces in pursuit of terrorists and guerrilla forces is always an expensive proposition. Attempting to build nations on soil not yet fertile to the concepts of democracy and national unity is even more problematic. Neither is needed to produce the result we want: deadly consequences for attacking Americans. This can be done with special forces, drones and better human intelligence.” (emphasis added)

Remember what DeVore said previously in a statement where he bashed President Obama speaking at West Point:

“The first reason is that the number of Americans is insufficient for the task at hand and added incrementally as to give the Taliban a chance to adjust.”

Gee, I am no foreign policy expert but I know a flip when I read one. Or, was Chuck simply dancing around the issue to see if an Afghan “surge” would be successful, then he could claim being right on the issue. So, what is it Chuck?

Want to bet whether Carly Fiorina will be using this DeVore OPPO research?
