Rudy Giuliani Watch: Gallup Poll – Rudy Leads GOP Field By Double Digits in Latest Gallup Poll
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani holds up a card bearing his ‘Twelve Commitments’ to the American people, Thursday, July 12, 2007, during his speech at the Victory ’08 fundraiser dinner at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan
The Gallup Poll: 2008 Nomination Contests Holding Steady With Clinton and Giuliani on Top
A new Gallup survey, conducted July 12-15, 2007, finds little change from earlier this month in public preferences for the Republican and Democratic presidential nominations.
In the Republican race, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to overshadow his opponents, leading former Sen. Fred Thompson by 10 percentage points in the straight ballot question, 30% to 20%, and by a sizeable 20-point margin in a “narrow down” with Fred Thompson.
The GOP Nuts:
With Gingrich in the race:
Rudy – 30%
Thompson – 20%
McCain – 16%
Romney – 8%
Gingrich – 7%
Without Gingrich in the race:
Rudy – 33%
Thompson – 21%
McCain – 16%
Romney – 8%
Mayor continues his national poll lead for the Republican Presidential nomination. Although John McCain’s campaign has been struggling as of late, it appears his poll numbers have stabilized – but in 3rd place.
Mitt Romney after months of campaigning and running $ millions in ads continues to poll in single digits.
Let’s look at some head to head polling:
With Giuliani leading in GOP fundraising and consistently leading in the polls, is it time for Republicans to coalesce around his candidacy – since he appears to be the inevitable winner?
Yes, and where is Fred Thompson’s big announcement? It is already the 17th of the month.

Giuliani Notes: Thompson 27% Rudy 23% Romney 12% McCain 11% in Latest Rasmussen National GOP Poll
Rasmussen Reports: 2008 Republican Presidential Primary
The biggest question in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination is whether or not former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson can sustain his warm-up act once he becomes an actual candidate. The actor once did what many politicians could never imagine by walking away from a career in the Senate. Now he is on the verge of doing what few politicians can even dream of by entering a race for the White House on top of the polls for his party’s nomination.
Thompson, preparing to formally announce his candidacy, leads the pack in the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey with 27% support. That gives him a four-point advantage over former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani who is currently preferred by 23% of Likely Primary Voters. A week ago, it was Thompson 28% and Giuliani 27%. Two weeks ago, they were tied at 24%. Prior to that time, Giuliani had been on top in every weekly Rasmussen Reports poll for five months.
The GOP NUTS:
The questions for today are:
1. What impact will this week’s Senate vote on the illegal immigration bill be on McCain’s campaign? Will it be the coup de grace?
2. Will Fred Thompson be able to sustain his quick rise as top dog in this race? After all, Fred has NOT even announced his campaign and performed in any debates.
3. If McCain’s campaign continues to crash and burn will a second tier candidate, like Mike Huckabee gain some traction and challenge Romney for third place?
Stay tuned…….

WSMV-TV: Thompson Announcement Set For Nashville
Headquarters To Be Based At Fall School building
Fred Thompson is set to announce that Nashville will be the home of his national campaign headquarters, WSMV is reporting.
A source close to the campaign planning tells WSMV that that Thompson planned to announce his candidacy on the steps of the historic Fall School Building Tuesday, but Thompson campaign officials deny that Tuesday’s announcement is an official run for the White House.
Sounds plausible to Flap.

Fred Thompson Watch: Military Action Against Iran Remains an Option
Former Republican Senator from Tennessee Fred Thompson appears on Fox News channel’s “Hannity and Colmes” in Washington, June 5, 2007.
Republican Thompson highlights serious Iran threat
Tougher sanctions or a blockade on Iran could help foment growing internal dissent to topple the government, former U.S. Republican senator Fred Thompson, a potential presidential candidate, said on Tuesday.
Military action must always remain an option and world powers must agree on the nature of what Thompson called the “very, very serious threat” from Tehran.
Fred Thompson “GETS IT.” So, does Joe Lieberman.

Fred Thompson Watch: Why?
Fred Thompson on Abortion and FamilyThe question has to be asked:Why would an almost 65 year old former Senator with two young children (one less than a year old) bother with running for the Presidency?Wouldn’t his family be better off with him at home or a less time consuming job? So, he can spend more time with his children and grandchildren (from his first wife)?
Just asking…….
Do you think anyone at the National Right to Life Conference for which the video above was filmed will wonder the same thing?

Fred Thompson Watch: Thompson is IN
Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson attends the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner, Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Stamford Conn. Hundreds of state Republicans turned out Thursday for the party’s annual fundraising dinner to listen for signs that the pool of presidential hopefuls may have another contender. Thompson was the keynote speaker and the approximate 600 guests paid between $250 to $1,000 for a chance to meet the Tennessee Republican.
Fred Thompson will announce his candidacy for the Presidency over the Fourth of July holiday.

The sounds you hear are:
1. The Mitt Romney campaign imploding
2. John McCain planning a withdrawal date and not from Iraq
3. The Iowa Ames Straw Poll folks wondering what went wrong.

Update:
Enter Number Eleven? Fred Thompson makes it (more) official. According to a campaign source, Thompson will file his FEC papers officially on Monday June 4. In FEC parlance, Thompson is opening a “testing the waters” committee, a technical term that allows Thompson to forgo filing a detailed report on June 30 — though once he’s an official candidate, he’ll have to file retroactively.
The June 4 filing will be coordinated with a first-day fundraising blitz with 100-plus “First Day Founders” raising a significant one day sum in order to send a we’re-in-the-first-tier message. The campaign tells us the “first day” blitz totals they report will be “cash” actually raised, not pledges.
The source didn’t dispute the notion that the one-day goal would be north of seven figures.
The Ames Straw Poll is 72 days away.
More on yesterday’s conference call to donors……
From the Weekly Standard: Testing the Waters
Specifically, a Thompson adviser told The New York Sun yesterday, he will announce the formation of a presidential “testing-the-waters” committee early next week — possibly as early as Sunday.

Fred Thompson Watch: The Scrutiny Begins
Actor, and former U.S. Senator, Fred Thompson speaks at a Lincoln Club Dinner in Newport Beach, California May 4, 2007.
Thompson’s 1994 Issue Positions
Project Vote Smart, which compiles voting records and other background materials on politicians, has finally put up its page on Fred Thompson (OK, maybe “finally” isn’t exactly the fairest word when Mr. Thompson hasn’t even announced for president — but I’ve been eager to see it).
Anyway, it seems Mr. Thompson filled out a survey for Project Vote Smart back in 1994, when he was running for Senate. While it’s mostly pretty predictable (boo foreign aid, yay low taxes), there are a few parts worth scrutinizing… (see: abortion, education, AIDS).
The scrutiny begins and the question is:
Fred, you in or out?

Fred Thompson Watch: Orange County Speech – A Let Down

Man who would be Reagan doesn’t wow ’em
”Will he announce?” asked the Lincoln Club of Orange County’s publication in preparation for Fred Thompson’s appearance at the organization’s 45th annual dinner here Friday night. A rumor, totally unfounded, ran rampant before his speech that Thompson would declare his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at the dinner lectern. In fact, he did not even hint at this prospect in a performance that was a letdown for the packed audience of conservative Republicans.
”It was not Reaganesque.” ”No red meat.” ”Too low key.” That was the preponderant reaction I heard to Thompson’s half-hour presentation (leavened by a few favorable comments, mostly by women, that he was more ”statesmanlike” and ”presidential” than the announced candidates). Lincoln Club members, like many conservative Republicans, had been unimpressed by the existing field of Republican hopefuls and envisioned Thompson as the second coming of Ronald Reagan. They did not get it Friday night.
Flap continues to maintain that Fred Thompson will NOT run for President. This piece by Prince of Darkness conservative columnist Robert Novak is a wake-up call.
It is late in the game and he is a 10-15 per center in the polls like Romney.Previous:
