Iran Nuclear Watch: United Nations Ambassador John Bolton – “Iran’s Nuclear Threat – Just Like 9/11”
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton departs from a meeting of the UN Security Council’s five permanent members to discuss Iran at the U.S. Mission to the UN, near the UN headquarters in New York, March 15, 2006. Iran came under new pressure to halt its suspected nuclear weapons programs on Tuesday when the U.S. and its allies took the issue to the full U.N. Security Council and Russia pursued its own initiative in talks in Moscow.
Reuters: Bolton compares Iran threat to Sept 11 attacks
The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, on Wednesday compared the threat from Iran’s nuclear programs to the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.
“Just like September 11, only with nuclear weapons this time, that’s the threat. I think that is the threat,” Bolton told ABC News’ Nightline program.
“I think it’s just facing reality. It’s not a happy reality, but it’s reality and if you don’t deal with it, it will become even more unpleasant.”
Bolton ratcheted up the rhetoric as the five veto-holding members of the U.N. Security Council failed again to reach agreement on how to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions after a fifth round of negotiations.
Russia and China are resisting proposals from Britain, France and the United States for a council statement that would express “serious concern” about Iran’s nuclear program and asks it to comply with demands from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The statement does not threaten sanctions.
Of course, Iran’s nuclear program is comparable to Al Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks but Iran is perhaps a worse threat to America. What if Iran decided to lob a nuclear tipped Shahab-3 missle into American troops in Iraq or at a United States aircraft carrier patrolling the Persian Gulf? What about Jerusalem? Tel aviv?
And, also, NO surprise that China and Russia are resisting United Nations Security Council actions.
At the same time foreign ministry officials from the five powers and Germany are considering meeting in New York on Monday to review strategy, diplomats said. Russia had previously proposed such talks in Vienna, seat of the IAEA.
This meeting will lay the foundation for an outside of the United Nations series of sanctions against Iran. The United States and its allies are coaxing the world community to condemn Iran and to isolate the country from the rest of the world. If this is successfully changes Iran’s nuclear ambitions, so be it. But, will it?
Doubtful…..
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.

Condoleezza Rice Watch: Iran is the “Central Bank of Terrorism”
Australia’s Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, left, and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice shakes hands during their meeting on Thursday March 16, 2006 in Sydney, Australia. Rice is in Australia to attend the Trilateral Strategic Dialogue with Australia’s Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.
CNN: Rice: Iran ‘terror’s central bank’
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Thursday urged Iran to resume negotiations over its nuclear program, while also calling the country a central banker for terrorism.
Rice was speaking after meeting her Australian counterpart Alexander Downer for talks that covered topics including Iraq, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Indonesia’s development and the recent nuclear deal between Washington and India.
Rice called Iran a “troublesome state” and the “central banker of terrorism,” though she didn’t elaborate on that, and said it was time for the country to “heed the international community’s call” to resume negotiations on its nuclear program.
Rice said she was “quite certain the (U.N.) Security Council will find an appropriate vehicle for expressing again … the desire of the international community … that Iran return to negotiations.”
Rice is paving the way for economic sanctions to be imposed by the WEST outside the framework of the United Nations. The United States knows that China and/or Russia will VETO any U.N. Security Council action.
Stay tuned for Iran’s response……

Elton Gallegly Watch:Reverses Retirement Decision and Will Seek New Term
Ventura County Star: California Rep. Gallegly reverses retirement, will seek new term
Republican California Rep. Elton Gallegly, R-Simi Valley, reversed course today and said he will seek re-election to an 11th term rather than follow through on retirement plans he announced just last week.”I will aggressively pursue the nomination for the Republican primary in June,” Gallegly, whose 24th Congressional District includes most of Ventura County, told a press conference.
Gallegly’s official statement is here.
…So I am unilaterally reopening the process. Those who wish to run for the 24th Congressional District seat, and to have the honor of representing the best people anyone could ever hope to represent in this august body, have two years to gear up their campaigns. I fully intend to run a vibrant campaign to win re-election in June and in November and will represent my friends and neighbors for the next two years with the same commitment and dedication I have for the past 20 years. I will not, however, seek re-election in 2008...
So, who will succeed Elton?
Flap handicaps possible successors in the order of likelyhood of being elected:
State Senator Tom McClintock
Former Assemlyman Tony Strickland
Vedntura County Sheriff Bob Brooks
There ae many others but these three TITANS of Ventura County politics will reign in a contested Republican primary.
Stay tuned…..

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Watch: Death Threats Spurred by Republican Criticism of the Court?
Justice Antonin Scalia (seated) poses next to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (L) and Justice Samuel Alito as Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States pose for a 2006 class photo inside the Supreme Court in Washington March 3, 2006.
ASSociated Press: Justice Ginsburg Reveals Details of Threat
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor have been the targets of death threats from the “irrational fringe” of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court.
Ginsburg revealed in a speech in South Africa last month that she and O’Connor were threatened a year ago by someone who called on the Internet for the immediate “patriotic” killing of the justices.
Ginsburg said the Web threat was apparently prompted by legislation in Congress, filed by Republicans, that would bar judges from relying on foreign laws or court decisions.
“It is disquieting that they have attracted sizable support. And one not-so-small concern _ they fuel the irrational fringe,” she said in a speech posted online by the court earlier this month and first reported Wednesday by LegalTimes.com.
Justice Ginsburg’s speech on international law is here.
According to Ginsburg, someone in a Web site chat room wrote: “Okay commandoes, here is your first patriotic assignment … an easy one. Supreme Court Justices Ginsburg and O’Connor have publicly stated that they use (foreign) laws and rulings to decide how to rule on American cases. This is a huge threat to our Republic and Constitutional freedom. … If you are what you say you are, and NOT armchair patriots, then those two justices will not live another week.”
Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Fla., a sponsor of one of the congressional proposals, wrote about the legislation on his Web site and in bold letters featured a quote from O’Connor predicting the Supreme Court would probably increasingly rely on foreign courts.
So, now it is not appropriate to criticise the Justices of the United States Supreme Court because it may lead to criminals making unlawful acts?
BULL
Ginsburg is the EVER partisan LEFTIE (former ACLU counsel) and wishes to use partisanship and a “Physical Threat Fakeout” to derail discussion of the real issue: the use of International law as precedent in United States Supreme Court decisions.
If you and the other justices are threatened, Justice Ginsburg, call the FBI.

Elton Gallegly Watch: Election Confusion Divides Ventura County GOP
*****Scroll Down for Updates*****Ventura County Star: Confusion over Gallegly createsstrife in GOP
Rep. Elton Gallegly, after meeting in Washington, D.C., with his Republican colleagues from California, said Tuesday night he has not yet decided whether he will actively seek re-election.And that uncertainty over his status has led to considerable internal strife within the Ventura County Republican Party.
Ventura County GOP activists and leaders are in turmoil. The Ventura County Republican Chairman, Leslie Cornejo, has endorsed Westlake Vaillage attorney Michael Tenenbaum and apparently will not withdraw this endorsement even if Congressman Gallegly decides to run for re-election.
Peggy Sadler (from Simi Valley and friend of the Congressman), a long-time member of the Ventura County Republican Central Committee and the California Republican Party is sending out correspondence asking everyone “My counsel is definitely to cool it.”
Local GOP Central Committees loathe and shun pre-primary endorsements. They are done all of the time but without the formal endorsement of the Republican Party. Flap should know since he endorsed Elton Gallegly over Tony Hope and Tom LaPorte when Gallegly first ran for the Congress.
Pre-primary endorsements definitely involve risks in the GOP. Pick the wrong candidate and your Republican credentials and career may be over. Pick the right one and you are a rising star.
Elton must make his OWN choice on whether to run.
Flap only hopes that he does so quickly…….
Stay tuned…..

Los Angeles Times: Calif. Rep. Gallegly Reverses Retirement
Republican Rep. Elton Gallegly of California reversed course Wednesday and said he will seek re-election to an 11th term rather than follow through on retirement plans he announced last week.
Gallegly, 62, had cited unspecified health reasons when he announced on Friday, the deadline to file for re-election, that he wouldn’t run again to represent the 24th District.
As Flap handicapped. But, what will Republican Michael Tenenbaum do? If he is smart……..
WITHDRAW……
Update #3
From the Flash Report:GALLEGLY TO RUN
Rep. Elton Gallegly has announced at a press conference in Washington D.C. moments ago that he will campaign for the 24th Congressional District. Gallegly indicated that the White House called to ask him to run and he will aggressively run for re-election. He said that if elected in 2006, it will be his last term. A number of Members stood behind him at the press conference, including Dreier, Calvert, Herger and Issa. Also there to support Gallegly was Simi Valley City Councilman Glen Becerra ( an FR Friend) , who many run for the open seat in 08.
Flap handicaps the seat will go to Tom McClintock in 2008 even if McClintock wins the California Lt. Governorship this Fall.
Stay tuned…..

Election 2006 Watch: House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi Promises Affordable Access to Broadband
U.S. Newswire: Pelosi Address to the Communications Workers of America
“We also believe that the nationwide deployment of high speed, always-on broadband and Internet and mobile communications will fuel the development of millions of new jobs in the United States.
“Here in the U.S., when we talk about ‘universal service,’ we’re talking about making sure that everyone has a voice dial tone. We have really fallen down in the list. When the countries that are ahead of us talk about ‘universal service,’ they’re talking about universal broadband deployment. In the last decade, the United States has slipped from leading the world to the 16th in the world. So our agenda guarantees that every American will have affordable access to broadband, and we intend to achieve it in five years.
And if Flap votes for the Democrats will they gurantee him a new laptop in five years?
How about a chicken in every pot? And a car?
Moronic……..

President 2008 Watch: Feingold Accuses Democrats of COWERING – “RUN and HIDE”in Censure Flap
*****Scroll Down for Update*****Russ Feingold, pictured January 2006, a Wisconsin Democrat, introduced a resolution in the Senate to censure President George W. Bush, accusing him of breaking the law with his after September 11 NSA Surveillance Program.
ASSociated Press: Feingold Assails Dems on Bush Censure
Wisconsin Sen. Russell Feingold accused fellow Democrats on Tuesday of cowering rather than joining him on trying to censure President Bush over domestic spying.
“Democrats run and hide” when the administration invokes the war on terrorism, Feingold told reporters.
Feingold introduced censure legislation Monday in the Senate but not a single Democrat has embraced it. Several have said they want to see the results of a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation before supporting any punitive legislation.
Republicans dismissed the proposal Tuesday as being more about Feingold’s 2008 presidential aspirations than Bush’s actions. On and off the Senate floor, they have dared Democrats to vote for the resolution.
“I’m amazed at Democrats … cowering with this president’s numbers so low,” Feingold said.
Flap agrees with Senator Feingold. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist should call this censure resolution up for extended debate and a vote. Why do the Democrats shoot off their mouth about the NSA program and accuse/imply the President is breaking the law yet will not file a lawsuit to stop the program or vote on this resolution?
Well, we know the answer don’t we……..
Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., tried to hold a vote Monday on Feingold’s resolution but was blocked by Democrats. He said Tuesday that Feingold should withdraw the resolution because it has no support.
“If the Democrats continue to say no to voting on their own censure resolution, then they ought to drop it and focus on our foreign policy in a positive way,” Frist said in a statement.
Come on Senate Democrats step up to the plate for Senator Feingold.
Don’t WIMP OUT…….
Update #1
The Wall Street Journal has The Impeachment AgendaIn other words, everything that Mr. Bush has been accused of during the last five years, no matter how Orwellian or thoroughly refuted, will be trotted out again and used as impeachment fodder. And lest you think this could never happen, Judiciary is the House committee through which any formal impeachment resolution would be introduced and proceed. As the country heads toward 2008 and a Democratic nomination fight, John Kerry and Hillary Rodham Clinton would be hard-pressed to avoid going along with Mr. Feingold, Al Gore, and others feeding the bile of the censure/impeach brigades.
Which brings us back to Mr. Feingold’s public service in floating his “censure” gambit now. He’s doing voters a favor by telling them before November’s election just how Democrats intend to treat a wartime President if they take power.
Not only do they want to block his policies, they also plan to rebuke and embarrass him in front of the world and America’s enemies. And they want to do so not because there is a smidgen of evidence that he’s abused his office or lied under oath, but because they think he’s been too energetic in using his powers to defend America. By all means, let’s have this impeachment debate before the election, so voters can know what’s really at stake.
