Reuters has Iran says still wants to enrich uranium at home
Iran’s agreement to discuss Moscow’s plan to enrich uranium in Russia does not mean that Tehran has abandoned its drive to enrich uranium on its own soil, a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying on Friday.
The remarks by Javad Vaeedi, deputy of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, appeared to dash faint hopes that Russia’s proposal could resolve the Islamic state’s nuclear standoff with the West.

The proposal, which is backed by Washington and the European Union, involves the creation of a joint Iranian-Russian company to enrich uranium in Russia.
The plan has been put forward by Moscow to try to allay international concerns that Iran could manufacture highly enriched uranium on its own soil to build atomic weapons.
Iran says it wants to enrich uranium only to a low grade, suitable for use in atomic power reactors.
But Vaeedi said Iran had only agreed to study Moscow’s joint-venture proposal on the assumption that it did not affect Iran’s plans to develop a full nuclear fuel cycle, including enrichment, at home.
If Iran thinks they will be able to “STALL” Israel, then they better deploy the anti-missle system they recently purchased from the Russians.

The medieval town in which Arnold Schwarzenegger grew up has rightly rejected his medieval murder of Stanley “Tookie” Williams.
The Terminator’s nickname has taken on a twisted new dimension. His Austrian home town is horrified, along with sane human beings throughout the rest of the world. Above all, this was a fascist killing.
Henry Wasserman a certified Leftie Moonbat has it ALL WRONG.Williams was a founder of the notorious Crips gang who reformed and worked ceaselessly to end violence. He renounced his past, wrote a children’s book and became a model citizen. Living a prison life in productive dignity, he came to embody precisely the kind of quiet integrity so distinctly lacking in those who put him to death.
In their Puritan eyes, Williams’ ultimate crime was not the murders he may or may not have committed—it was his refusal to confess to them.
Stanley Tookie Williams was a heinous murderer of four innocent victims. He was duly convicted in a court of law and had 24 years of legal appeals, including the California and United States Supreme Court. No court voted to overturn his conviction.

Ye-Chen Lin.The irony becomes even deeper with the bitter rejection of Schwarzenegger’s hypocrisy by his Austrian hometown of Graz. Arnold has danced around a personal past heavily tainted with overt or covert Nazism. But Graz was undeniably in the fascist grip during World War 2.
Now Graz has set its sights in direct opposition, with official revulsion against a death penalty it (and most of the rest of the world) considers barbaric.
California voters in numerous elections have supported the death penalty. It is NOT barbaric.
Tookie Williams’ murder of four innocent victims is barbaric.Your comparison of Schwarzenegger’s denial of clemency and the Salem Witch trials is a bastardization of history and there is NO comparison.
Five years ago the Graz City Council unanimously voted to deem itself Europe’s premier “city of human rights.” For many, Williams had become precisely the kind of citizen with whom Graz wanted to associate.
Flap doubts this – associate with a quadruple murderer who has shown NO remorse!
In protest against Schwarzenegger’s refusal to pardon Williams, a majority of the city council accepted a petition to rename the local 15,000-seat stadium which was named after Schwarzenegger in 1997. Before the petition could be formally approved, Schwarzenegger had his name removed.
“It was a clever step,” said one council member.
There have since been proposals to rename the stadium after the Crips, or after Hakoah, a Jewish sports club banned by Hitler after he annexed Austria in 1938.
But Schwarzenegger proclaims no remorse for Williams’s death. The ritual slaughter in California, Texas and Iraq continue as the rest of the world recoils in horror.
No one cares about the Graz sports stadium naming contgroversy or the honorary ring that Schwarzenegger returned.
The Governator owes NO REMORSE for Tookie’s death.
However, California voters CARE that a heinous murderer has been executed in retribution for the deaths of four innocent citizens.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: Infrastructure Bond Trial Balloon – $25-27 Billion
Reuters and the Los Angeles Times have Schwarzenegger bond plan at $25 bln-$27 bln-report
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to ask for an infrastructure bond issue of $25 billion to $27 billion, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday, quoting administration sources.
The celebrity Republican has already signaled he is seeking massive spending on infrastructure in the nation’s most populous state. But he has not given a final amount after his administration hinted at a number as high as $50 billion.
Schwarzenegger will unveil his plans on January 5 in his State of the State address, which will be followed on January 10 with the presentation of his new fiscal year budget.
Details of the governor’s proposals are typically leaked in the days leading up to those presentations. The Los Angeles Times did not provide more details about the infrastructure bond sum, although it said it was expected Schwarzenegger would face an uphill battle winning two-thirds of legislators to back the plan.
A spokesman for the California Department of Finance did not return several calls seeking comment.
The California economy is good and the structural deficit that has plagued Schwarzenegger’s past state budget appears to have disappeared.
California infrastructure, especially transportation, is a mess and requires investment dollars to continue economic growth.
But…… how will Governor Schwarzenegger pay for the bonds?A bond issue in the $25 billion-$27 billion range would far outstrip a $10.3 billion infrastructure bond proposal from State Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata, a Democrat.
State Treasurer Phil Angelides, a Schwarzenegger critic and Democratic candidate for governor, has stepped up warnings about the danger of issuing new debt.
In a recent report, he said California has $34.6 billion in general obligation bonds outstanding and $30.4 billion in authorized but unissued bonds.

Top Iranian and Russian officials agreed on Thursday to hold talks on a Russian proposal aimed a resolving Tehran’s nuclear standoff with the West, an Iranian diplomat close to the talks said.
The proposal, which is backed by Washington and the European Union, involves the creation of a joint Iranian-Russian company to enrich uranium in Russia.
Moscow put forward the plan in a bid to allay international concerns that Iran could manufacture highly enriched uranium on its own soil to build atomic weapons.
Iran says it only wants to enrich uranium to a low grade, suitable for use in atomic power reactors.
Iranian officials had previously said they would reject any plan which denied Iran the right to build its own uranium enrichment facilities.
But, in a sudden change of tone, a senior official said on Wednesday Tehran would “seriously and enthusiastically” study the Russian plan.
The diplomat, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the agreement to talks on the proposal came during a telephone conversation between Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov.
Larijani told Ivanov there were “ambiguities and problems” with the Russian plan but that “the outline of the proposal can be reviewed,” the diplomat said.
Time is running out for the Iranians.
But, Russian intervention must be considered suspect.
If the Iranians do not stand down, Israel and the United States WILL take military action.
Asked about Iran’s decision to discuss the Russian proposal, U.S. State Department deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said in Washington that it was hard to say at this point what it means.
“The fundamentals haven’t changed, which are that it is up to Iran to respond positively, cooperatively and meaningfully to address the concerns of the international community,” Ereli said. “It still hasn’t done that,” he added
EU diplomats and arms control experts have noted Tehran has been careful to stop short of flatly rejecting Moscow’s plan, which could weaken Russian opposition to EU and U.S. efforts to refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.
They say Iran may be willing to drag out talks on the Russian proposal to buy time and good favor.

Condemned inmate’s lawyers raise novel angle in appeal to governor.
State executioners will be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act if they make the aged and infirm Clarence Ray Allen walk the final steps to his death, the condemned murderer’s attorneys say.
In their latest plea for clemency, Allen’s lawyers cited a Fresno television station’s news report in arguing that prison officials are planning to make their client – a 75-year-old blind diabetic confined to a wheelchair – walk the final 15 feet into the execution chamber.
So, the apologists and anti-death penalty folks are now using the pathetic argument that this four time murderer cannot walk to the execution chamber?
San Quentin State Prison spokesman Lt. Vernell Crittendon response is accurate and classy:
Crittendon on Wednesday said prison officials instead are planning to wheel Allen right to the doorstep of the execution room, leaving him only two steps to the table, where he is scheduled to die Jan. 17 at 12:01 a.m. of a lethal injection.
“So it’s really nothing that’s going to be an issue,” Crittendon said. “We’ve been accommodating his needs up to this point, and nothing will change.”
Allen, who once ran a security company in Fresno, became the leader of a theft ring in the San Joaquin Valley and was convicted of ordering the 1974 murder of his son’s girlfriend. While serving a life sentence at Folsom Prison, he was convicted of ordering three more murders at a Fresno supermarket in 1980, including the killing of a witness from his earlier trial. The gunman, Billy Ray Hamilton, a former fellow inmate, is also on Death Row.

Remember in 1986, Justice Grodin along with Chief Justice Rose Bird and Associate Justice Cruz Reynoso were thrown off the court by a vote of Californians. This action was in part due to the California Supreme Court’s reluctance to enforce the “Death Penalty.”
Clarence Ray Allen deserves to be executed in January. He has lived for twenty years because of countless and needless legal appeals and obstruction by anti-death penalty zealots.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: Governor Expected to Propose College Fee Freeze
The ASSociated Press and Los Angeles Times has Gov. Expected to Propose College Fee Freeze
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to propose a freeze on fee hikes at California universities next year, the first financial break for students in several years.
The 2006-2007 budget plan will propose an additional $75 million for the University of California and $54.4 million for the California State University, a senior administration official said Wednesday.
In addition, the Cal Grant program is being augmented.
Schwarzenegger’s budget plan also will add $11.9 million to raise the maximum amount of Cal Grants for students at private colleges and universities, the official said. The extra money would raise the maximum annual grant to $9,708 from $8,322.
Nunez said that move would return the Cal Grant program to its level of two years ago and “sends a strong message that California is serious about investing in our future.”
And how is the Governor paying for this largess?
The nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office said in November that an unexpected jump in tax income and ongoing spending cuts will raise $5.2 billion more than previously projected. That will more than cover what had been anticipated as a $4 billion shortfall for next year and leave a reserve of $1.2 billion.
A politically-sensitive endeavor that ingratiates Schwarzenegger with middle class parents and students alike.
This will improve his relations with moderate voters who Arnold desperately needs.
One step on the long road to re-election.

Austrian chancellor yanks ‘art project’ showing British queen, Bush, Chirac
Her Majesty would not have been amused.
Neither would President Bush or his French counterpart, Jacques Chirac, over a Vienna-wide art project depicting them naked and engaged in a sexual act with British Queen Elizabeth II.
The work of “euroPART,†an independent artists’ group, the scenes being displayed on electronic billboards across the Austrian capital were also embarrassing for the government just days before the country assumes the European Union’s rotating presidency Sunday.
And this is “ART”?

Austrian media reported that the offending images were yanked Wednesday — just a day after they started flashing at motorists — on personal orders of Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel. A woman answering the telephone at the chancellor’s public information department who refused to identify herself said she could not confirm the report.
Leading opposition party figures suggested Schuessel was at least indirectly responsible, saying the group had received about $1.2 million in government subsidies.
Schuessel spokeswoman Heidi Glueck was quoted by the Austria Press Agency as saying the chancellor had been “unaware†of the subject matter being displayed.
Are the Austrian’s embarassed because the art was “POOR and UNORIGINAL” or because the government paid for it?
Certainly, it is in BAD TASTE – signifying NOTHING more than that.
