Howard Dean Watch: DNC Out of $$
Matt Drudge is reporting: DEAN UNDER FIRE FROM PARTY DEMS; NEARLY ALL CASH SPENT
Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are privately bristling over Howard Dean’s management of the Democratic National Committee and have made those sentiments clear after new fundraising numbers showed he has spent nearly all the committee’s cash and has little left to support their efforts to gain seats this cycle, ROLL CALL reports.
Congressional leaders were furious last week when they learned the DNC has just $5.5 million in the bank, compared to the Republican National Committee’s $34 million.
Senate and House Minority Leaders Harry Reid (Nev.) and Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), along with the Senate and House campaign committee chairmen Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), have made their concerns — directly or indirectly — known to Dean, claims the paper.
Emanuel was particularly upset last week upon seeing the latest DNC numbers.
“A lot of people are scratching their heads as to what’s going on,†said one senior Democratic aide.
Another Democratic source familiar with the party fundraising apparatus said there is “obvious displeasure†among the leaders.
Developing…
Flap is surprised Dean has lasted so long.
Hillary will move HER DNC chairman in soon.
Stay tuned……..

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: Governor of the People?
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger addresses the media during a visit to Seaside High School in Seaside, Calif., Friday, Jan. 27, 2006. The governor is pushing for new, modernized classrooms for California’s students.
George Skelton in the Los Angeles Times: A Leader Can Get Lost Following the People
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has always said he wants to be “the governor of the people,” executing their commands. But there is a problem with that notion. Too often, the people don’t have a clue.Oh, they have a clue about what they want. They know where they want to wind up — but have little inkling of the route or the fare. Nor what’s feasible and what’s fantasy.
Frequently they’re confused. That’s partly because they’re misled by demagogues — and also because, being human, they try to avoid pain by living in denial.
“Voters are conflicted,” says Mark Baldassare, pollster for the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California. “They want almost everything. They want to continue to spend more money and tax other people. Or borrow.
“There’s not a whole lot of fiscal discipline in the public.”
That’s why Americans are carrying $2 trillion-plus in consumer debt.
In that respect, Schwarzenegger is the people’s governor. His latest $125.6-billion budget plan would have state government spending $6.4 billion more than it takes in during the next fiscal year. That “moves the state in the wrong direction,” says nonpartisan Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill.
This is the “live within your means” governor, remember? Why didn’t he propose a “live within your means” spending plan? a reporter asked him at the Jan. 10 budget unveiling.
“It is easier said than done,” Schwarzenegger replied. “When I ran [for governor], I thought it was easier to balance the budget, to be honest with you. But it’s very, very difficult because you’re not sitting … alone in the Capitol. You’re making decisions together [with legislators]….
“If I do my [family] budget at home, yes, it’s easy to just say, ‘Oh, we spend less here.’ End of story…. It’s easier than working at the Capitol.”
A reminder to Skelton: Don’t sell the people of California short.
A reminder to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger: political leadership in the ARENA is NOT always expedient or TAX and SPEND.

Cindy Sheehan Watch: New Protest in Crawford
In this photo released by Venezuela’s Miraflores Press, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez embraces visiting U.S. peace activist Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, during his national broadcast ‘Hello President’ in Caracas, Venezuela, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006. Chavez said Sheehan told him that ‘soon, in Holy Week, she is going to put up her tent again in front of Mr. Danger’s ranch,’ referring to U.S. President George W. Bush. Sheehan gained international notoriety last year when she set up a protest camp near Bush’s Texas ranch.
ASSociated Press: Peace activist Cindy Sheehan plans new protest at Bush’s ranch
Cindy Sheehan, who gained international fame when she camped outside President Bush’s ranch in an anti-war protest, plans to pitch her tent again, Venezuela’s president said Sunday as he urged activists worldwide to help bring down “the U.S. empire.â€
Hugo Chavez, an arm around Sheehan’s shoulders, told a group of activists that she had told him “she is going to put up her tent again in front of Mr. Danger’s ranch†in April.
In some of his strongest recent comments aimed at Washington, Chavez condemned the Bush administration and said his audience should work toward ending U.S. dominance.
“Enough already with the imperialist aggression!” Chavez said, listing countries from Panama to Iraq where the U.S. military has intervened. “Down with the U.S. empire! It must be said, in the entire world: Down with the empire!”
This reminds Flap of the Old Socialist/Communist BLOVIATING at George Galloway events.
Chavez said Sheehan had invited him to join her April protest at Bush’s Texas ranch.
“Maybe I’ll put up my tent also,” Chavez said, to applause from an audience invited to his weekly broadcast on the final day of the World Social Forum, an annual gathering of anti-war and anti-globalization activists.
LEFTIE MORONS think alike!

Samuel Alito Watch: Obama Criticises Filibuster As Biden Supports It Once
U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito walks through the halls of Capitol Hill in Washington January 27, 2006.
ASSociated Press: Sen. Obama Criticizes Filibuster Tactic
To more effectively oppose Supreme Court nominees in the future, Democrats need to convince the public “their values are at stake” rather than use stalling tactics to try to thwart the president, said a senator who opposes
Samuel Alito’s confirmation.Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., predicted on Sunday that an effort to try to block a final vote on Alito would fail on Monday. That would clear the way for Senate approval Tuesday of the federal appeals court judge picked to succeed the retiring Justice
Sandra Day O’Connor.Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., said he, too, would support the filibuster attempt but agreed that it was not particularly wise.
“I think a filibuster make sense when you have a prospect of actually succeeding,” Biden said on CNN’s “Late Edition.” “I will vote one time to say to continue the debate. but the truth of the matter” is that Alito will be confirmed, he said.
The Democrats WILL FILIBUSTER and LOSE on a cloture vote.
It appears they do NOT have the votes to DENY cloture.
A final up or down vote will occur on Tuesday with the confirmation of Justice Alito – just in time for President Bush’s State of the Union address.

Iran Nuclear Watch: United Nations Security Council Powers to Meet Tomorrow in London on Iran Nuclear Referral
Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, speaks with the media during a press conference, in Tehran, Iran, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006. Iran has asked to meet British, French and German negotiators in Brussels on Monday to discuss the standoff over Tehran’s nuclear program, EU and British officials said Sunday.
Reuters: UN Security Council powers meet on Iran atomic case
The European Union and United States will on Monday seek to persuade Russia and China to back tough diplomatic action against
Iran over its disputed nuclear program before a crunch meeting on Thursday.Three days before the United Nations nuclear watchdog holds an emergency session in Vienna, at which the board could decide to send Iran to the U.N. Security Council, foreign ministers from the world powers will try to agree on a strategy.
The European Union — represented by France, Germany and Britain — and United States want to haul Iran in front of the Security Council, which can impose sanctions, but Russia and China are not convinced.
“The meeting comes at a crucial time and we will be seeking clarification of the Russian and Chinese positions,” said a diplomat from the EU trio of France, Germany and Britain, which earlier this month called off talks with Iran.
“We are still arguing for Iran to be reported to the Security Council,” added the diplomat.
Speaking to reporters en route to London, U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice said the meeting, over a private evening dinner, would look at many issues, including referral of Iran to the Council as well as a Russian compromise proposal.Reluctance from veto-wielding Security Council members Russia and China over imposing economic sanctions on Iran, threaten to undermine U.S. and European plans.
Russia has business interests in Iran as it is helping to build Iran’s first atomic reactor and China relies on oil from Iran, the world’s fourth-biggest exporter of crude.

Iraq War Watch: United States Troops Reduced 20 Per Cent in Iraq
U.S. Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Army personnel view a homemade rocket launching tube (C) found in the desert near a U.S. military base outside the western Iraq town of Hit January 28, 2006. The Marines found the weapon while searching the area in and around Hit for hidden weapons caches and insurgent activity.
AFP: US troops in Iraq cut by up to 20 percent: US general
The United States has reduced its forces in Iraq by up to 20 percent in the last two months, but may choose to raise the number of troops if the situation worsens, a top US General reportedly said.
“We have reduced our forces already in Iraq by about 15 or 20 percent over the past couple of months,” General John Abizaid, commander of the US Central Command, told Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas.
“I would expect that they will continue to come down, but only based on the degree of stability that is achieved there. You wont see a rapid withdrawal of American forces,” he said.
“You will see American forces starting to come down as Iraqi forces start to come up, but if there is a spike in the security situation that would send Iraq in a bad direction, we are also willing to put in additional forces. So, well judge it,” he said.
Abizaid said that about 220,000 Iraqis are currently serving either in the police or in the armed forces that have “good capacity to ultimately defend Iraq and work against the insurgents and the terrorists.”
This is good news from Iraq.
Currently more than 140,000 American troops remain in Iraq.

NHS Dentistry Watch: One in five dentists ready to leave NHS
News Telegraph: One in five dentists ready to leave NHS
Thousands of dentists are poised to leave the National Health Service in protest at the Government’s new work contract, prompting the worst crisis in the profession since NHS services began nearly 60 years ago.
According to research by the British Dental Association and the Conservative Party, as many as half of dentists in London and one in three in Birmingham plan to turn their backs on the NHS by refusing to sign the contract which takes effect on April 1. Nationally about 20 per cent are threatening to go.
The haemorrhage will leave about four million patients without access to a dentist. A further 40 per cent of the remaining 16,000 NHS dentists say they will reduce their health service work, leaving seven million more people struggling to obtain basic dental care.
The UK dentists are voting against the socialized NHS with their feet. Many millions of Britains will now have to scramble for dental care.
And the Tony Blair government does ?
Stay tuned…….
