Hannah-Beth Jackson Watch: Blows More Smoke Over Tobacco Company Protest

Former California Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson and Democrat nominee for the California State Senate, District 19 has issued a press release.Contact: Chris Lanier Friends of Hannah-Beth Jackson 2008 Press Release
HANNAH BETH JACKSON STATEMENT ON ATTACK OF PROTESTERS Tuesday, June 20, 2008
On Tuesday, June 17th, a state employee on Assemblymember Audra Strickland’s staff Joel Angeles attacked several participants of a protest of candidate Tony Strickland’s acceptance of massive contributions from the tobacco lobby. Mr. Angeles’ attack was provoked only by the protesters’ desire to exercise their first amendment rights.
Had Joel Angeles been my employee he would have been fired on the spot. There is no justification for anyone, let alone a state employee, to deprive anyone of their free speech rights. A public employee on the staff of an elected representative is committed to protect the constitution on behalf of his employer, the State of California. Assemblymember Strickland has apparently suspended Mr. Angeles for a month. It is incomprehensible that someone with such a long history of service with Audra and Tony Strickland as Mr. Angeles would not understand the public’s basic constitutional rights and the responsibilities of a public official. Audra and Tony Strickland should ensure that he has no future role in fulfilling their public responsibilities or campaigning for public office.
I have asked everyone associated with my campaign to respect our opponent’s right to express their views, and believe that the public has the right to a full debate on the issues that face us in this election. The choice of who will represent the 19th Senate District next year is far too important to allow bullying or intimidation to disrupt the process.

Yada Yada Yada
Hannah-Beth Jackson, a former attorney and prosecutor has AMAZINGLY already convicted Joe Angeles of a civil rights violation, and would fire him, a California State employee, on the spot for depriving people of their free speech rights. Flap had this account of the original fracas.
Flap was there and wrote this post after the altercation/protests and the fundraising event for Assemblywoman Audra Strickland’s husband, Tony.
The entire Flap was and continues to be a “He Said, They Said†argument. Flap did not see the supposed “smack down†but did interview one of the female alleged victims. She did have scratches on her right arm which she said she received by being pushed into an adjoining hedge.
But, the hedge had sharp prongs, the sidewalk was filled with people and Flap was easily pushed into it and scratched his own arm.
Ventura County Sheriff officers interviewed all parties and since none of the parties would pursue prosecution or a citizen’s arrest, no arrests were made.
Hannah-Beth Jackson was NOT present but would FIRE someone based upon conflicting press reports or the observations by partisans supporting her candidacy? Hey, Hannah-Beth ever hear of “DUE PROCESS?”
As far as bullying and intimidation of the political process there was none. Both sides demonstrated and protested vigorously.
It is not surprising that Hannah-Beth Jackson is wrong in her characterization of events of June 17. She is just blowing smoke again.

Father Michael Pfleger Returns to St. Sabina
Father Michael Pfleger returns to St. Sabina
He’s back after a two week suspension by Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George.
At St. Sabina on Sunday, ushers distributed fliers with a silhouette of boxing great Muhammad Ali that said: “Ain’t nothing like a comeback.”
When Pfleger entered the church, the congregation rose to their feet and cheered.
Later during his sermon, Pfleger spoke about his two-week suspension as a test of faith.
“You will fall. I will fall. And even though we fall, we can get back up again,” he said. “Stumbles will shake you. Stumbles will also purify you. They will cause you to ask yourself what really matters.
Flap knows that this character will be a gift that keeps on giving to John McCain and the GOP because Barack Obama and Howard Dean cannot hide him away like Jeremiah Wright.
One more time – Pfleger’s anti-white rant against Hillary Clinton:

Day By Day by Chris MuirThe Flap over Barack Obama’s presumptive use of a pseudo-Presidential seal for his campaign may be a sign that the Messiah’s kid-glove treatment by the MSM is waining. Certainly, Obama’s race card play has been heavily reported.Over the summer, Team McCain will vett Obama as the same ol’ tax and spend liberal pol from Chicago in the mold of Walter Mondale, George McGovern and Jimmy Carter. Isn’t that what Obama’s former Pastor Jeremiah Wright said?
The problem for the GOP is: does anyone remember them?

Barack Obama Plays the Be Afraid of Darkie Card
Cuban Americans (R) protest against Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) during the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami, Florida, June 21, 2008.
In an unbelievable display of racial politics, Barack Obama, the post-racial Democrat candidate for President has played the race card.Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said on Friday he expects Republicans to highlight the fact that he is black as part of an effort to make voters afraid of him.
“It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy,” Obama told a fundraiser in Jacksonville, Florida. “We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid.
“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”
He said he was also set for Republicans to say “he’s got a feisty wife,” in trying to attack his wife Michelle.
“We know the strategy because they’ve already shown their cards. Ultimately I think the American people recognize that old stuff hasn’t moved us forward. That old stuff just divides us,” he said.
Is Obama out of his mind to think this will play in America today?
- Here is a candidate that used race to defeat Hillary Clinton in “red states” where African American voters dominate the Democrat Party.
- Here is a candidate who actively registers African American voters ONLY at the Los Angeles Revlon Cancer walk.
- Here is a candidate whose first national television ad portrays himself as half black and half white from Kansas – so he is “one of us.”
It is Obama and the Democrat Party that has used race and Obama’s blackness to their political advantage.
Now, with this said, the GOP in order to defeat him will do so by not demonizing him but contrasting on how wrong Obama is on the issues.
By the way, Obama IS inexperienced.

Gay Marriage Activists Try to Block California Initiative Vote
Michael Ramirez on Gay MarriageIt was bad enough that the California Supreme Court overturned a vote of Californians banning gay marriage. But now the same court is being asked to invalidate another California Initiative BEFORE the vote. The Limit on Marriage Constitutional Amendment has qualified by initiative and will appear on the California November general election ballot.
Supporters of gay rights have asked the California Supreme Court to block a November ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriages.
In a legal brief filed late Friday with the high court, the gay rights groups argue that the initiative is a “revision” of the state Constitution, which would require involvement of the Legislature, rather than simply an amendment, which can be approved by a majority vote in an election.
The California courts in the past have been very reluctant to throw out a measure before going to the voters. However, who knows what this court will do?
The Alliance Defense Fund has vowed to fight this latest legal challenge to allowing California voters decide the gay marriage issue.
“Equality California and its allies are desperate to evade democracy. First, they used the courts to erase the votes of nearly 5 million Californians who voted to protect marriage. Now, they are trying to silence the people’s voice forever,†said ADF Senior Counsel Glen Lavy. “This is just another attempt to force a radical political agenda upon the people of California. The opponents of marriage are willing to use any means necessary to impose their will.â€
“ADF and ProtectMarriage will defend the right of the people to participate in the democratic process and vote on the constitutional amendment,†Lavy added.
The gay marriage proponents are obviously afraid of another election. They will lose and gay marriage AGAIN will not be recognized.
Sadly, the legal challenges will not end by the homosexual lobby.

African Americans vote in lock-step with the Democrat Party and have done so for decades. Why should Howard Dean and the Congressional leadership pander to them AT ALL?With Barack Obama as a Presidential candidate they will massively turn out their “black” demographic with little cost to the party in either money or promises.
So much for the post-racial candidate. And, note that Barry reminded America in his first general election television ad this week that he is half white and from Kansas.
