George W Bush Watch: Slamming Obama for Appeasement Part Two
Michael Ramirez on the Democrat Party and Jimmy Carter
The Democrats go after President Bush to protect Obama and his willingness to negotiate WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS with Iran and other terrorist states but who the President was REALLY addressing was former President Jimmy Carter.
“We did not anticipate that it would be taken that way, because its kind of hard to take it that way when you look at the actual words. … There was some anticipation that someone might say you know its an expression of rebuke to former President Carter for having met with Hamas. that was something that was anticipated but no one wrote about it or raised it.”
So, Obama and his VP, Senator Joe Biden and the remaining Democrat cabal, plus the MSM have reacted wildly?
Barack Obama is upset at this statement by President Bush. Why? What does he disagree with? Shouldn’t he just have seconded the president’s admonition against falling for such a foolish delusion. Or does he know that his promise to talk with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad puts him in the camp of the foolish delusionists?
What else is new from a NAIVE rookie and his minions?
Obama is still at it today and McCain will respond soon.
Stay tuned……

John McCain Watch: The Climate Change Tour
Michael Ramirez on the Obama-Clinton Knockout race
Senator McCain is NOT giving conservatives much solace on domestic policy, now is he?
“John McCain is going to be doing more of these themed tours of America, and one of them is going to be on energy and global climate change. It could get him into trouble with Republicans, of course, and with the base, who don’t think there is much climate change going on, but it is something that he’s very passionate about and he’s going to be talking about it.”
McCain better listen to Newt Gingrich and devise a coherent GOP strategy rather than themed tours that will turn-off most of his GOP base.

200 Economists Nix McCain-Clinton Gas Tax Holiday
Michael Ramirez on the Gasoline Tax
The Gas Tax Holiday is PANDER politics that probably won’t do much to help the economy. But, it is SOMETHING.
The United States Senate majority will never pass it because John McCain supports it. But, it is SOMETHING.
Good politics despite what the economists say.

Barack Obama Watch: The Wright Stuff for the GOP
Michael Ramirez on Reverend Jeremiah Wright
Is the latest Barack Obama – Jeremiah Wright flap, the RIGHT stuff for the GOP in November?Flap and others think so.
While there’s still more GOPers who think Clinton and not Obama is the easier downballot target, NRCC’s Cole has been the consistent dissenter on this issue and is betting that Obama and not Clinton will be the bigger drag. Politico: “Republican-leaning districts could be particularly fertile ground for Obama-focused attacks, GOP officials say. ‘I think he’s the weaker candidate, and I’ve thought that for over a year now,’ NRCC Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.) said at a briefing on Monday. ‘He’s very inexperienced. He is by any definition liberal and to the left of Hillary Clinton, and he will give us plenty of ideological divisions to work with.’â€
“Besides the two special congressional elections in Mississippi and Louisiana next month, Republicans believe they can also exploit Obama’s vulnerabilities in House battlegrounds where he has struggled to win over key demographic groups. Those areas include three culturally conservative seats in Pennsylvania, where Obama lost badly in last week’s primary, and three Cuban-American districts in Florida that Democrats are seriously contesting for the first time.”
More on how Jeremiah Wright is being used by the GOP in down ballot races here.
As Flap said yesterday, each minute (news cycle) that Obama does not emphatically repudiate Jeremiah Wright HIS campaign and the Democrat Party is hurt. This entire flap may have created a HUGE opening for the GOP.
Even the LEFT recognizes the conundrum and urges Obama to throw Wright under the bus – and quick.
But, is it too late for a Sister Soulja moment and for Obama to DISOWN Reverend Wright?
If conservatives at first thought the Obama/Wright catastrophe was ironic, given Obama’s liberal sermons, or in a political sense timely in helping the McCain candidacy, I think by now they and most other Americans instead see the mess as tragic for the country, and a radical setback in our collective racial relations. Everyone of good conscience should deplore Wright in the strongest terms, and implore Obama once and for all to disown this extremist.
So, will Obama weigh in today on Jeremiah Wright? Or will Reverend Wright be the fatal blow to his candidacy?
In any case, for the GOP and John McCain, it is the WRIGHT STUFF.

Barack Obama Watch: No debates Before May 6 Indiana Primary
Michael Ramirez on Barack Obama
News Item: No more debates, Obama tells Fox News
Chris Wallace: Why are you ducking another debate with Senator Clinton?
Obama: I’m not ducking one. We’ve had 21 (laughs)…We want to make sure we’re talking to as many folks possible on the ground, taking questions from voters.
Wallace: No debates between now and Indiana?
Obama: We’re not going to have debates between now and Indiana.
So, now Obama wants to talk with those rubes in Indiana that are “BITTER” and “CLINGY” to their guns and religion?
Well, rather than debate Hillary anyway.
Somehow Flap does NOT think the Clinton Cabal will let Barry get away with this one.

The Unintended Consequences of Biofuel
News Item: An appeal to slow down on biofuel
Last Friday an advisory panel to the European Environment Agency issued an extraordinary scientific opinion: The European Union should suspend its goal of having 10 percent of transportation fuel made from biofuel by 2020.
The European Union’s biofuel targets were increased and extended from 5.75 percent by 2010 to 10 percent by 2020 just last year. Still, Europe’s well-meaning rush to biofuels, the scientists concluded, had produced a slew of harmful ripple effects – from deforestation in Southeast Asia to higher prices for grains.
Key Graphs:
- But the rush to meet biofuels targets has put our “need” to drive a car to the mall in direct competition with the need to eat in some of the poorest countries in the world.
- A global analysis performed by forestry experts at the Australian International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, a scientific study group, found that biofuels were “in conflict with the reduction of deforestation” and also had negative effects on farming intensity and food security.
- It also concluded that the rush to make biofuels from crops like corn, soy and rapeseed did not do much to reduce global greenhouse gasses anyway, producing an “ambiguous effect on greenhouse gas emissions.” This is partly because of land use changes like the clearing of forests and partly because the process of converting plants into fuel takes a lot of energy itself.
The law of unintended consequences.

Shocker: Iran Threatens To Eliminate Israel
Michael Ramirez on Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions
New Item: Iran Threatens to Eliminate Israel
Iran will eliminate Israel if it attacks the Islamic Republic, Iran’s deputy army chief warned Tuesday in words conjuring up Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s threats to wipe Israel off the map.
“Should Israel take any action against Iran, we will eliminate Israel from the scene of the universe,” Gen. Muhammad Reza Ashtiani said in Teheran on Tuesday.
Ashtiani’s statement followed Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer’s comment last week warning Iran that any attack on Israel would result in the “destruction of the Iranian nation.”
Ashtiani claimed Israel was “very vulnerable” and dismissed allegations that Iran was worried about Israeli maneuvers.
And, let’s see Iran President Ahmadinejad says Britain, Israel and the United States are to disappear as the Pharaohs. Yet, the United Nations writes meaningless sanction resolutions and the uranium enrichment centrifuges continually spin at Natanz.
One of these days, someone in the world will take Iranian threats seriously.

Quote of the Day: Hillary – The President is Boss
Michael Ramirez on Obama, Hillary and the Iraq War
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton reiterated her campaign pledge to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within 60 days of taking office, and added on Thursday that she would carry out the policy regardless of the advice she might receive from military commanders.
At a news conference here, Mrs. Clinton was asked if she would keep to her promises on withdrawing troops, even if she is advised differently by military leaders on the ground.
“Well, let me just describe to you the way our system works,†Mrs. Clinton said. “Policy is set by the civilian leadership. The president of the United States sets the policy. Our military, and thankfully so, carries out the policy that is set. You ask the military for their best advice about how to implement the policy that you have set.â€
Can ANYONE envision Hillary as the Commander in Chief?

Michael Ramirez on General David Petraeus’ Testimony Before Congress
Michael Ramirez parodies General David Petreaus’ testimony in the Senate today
Iraq Is Improving, But Gains ‘Fragile,’ Gen. Petraeus Says
Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker spoke directly to the next U.S. president Tuesday, giving a cautiously optimistic assessment of the situation in Iraq.
They just weren’t certain when they talked to the president.
Was it in the morning before a congressional panel that included Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.?
Or that afternoon when they spoke to another that included Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.In either case, the two top U.S. officials in Iraq said the military is making progress, with Petraeus calling for a halt in troop withdrawals to consolidate the surge’s gains. If carried out, the next president could enter office with more than 140,000 U.S. troops still in Iraq.
Actually, the decorum of the Senate and the Senate gallery was better than when General Petraeus testified last September. Remember when Moveon.org placed the General Betray US ad in the New York Times?
But, conditions on the ground are better in Iraq and Petraeus has done a remarkable job. Now, who will voters believe in November?

Michael Ramirez Wins Pulitzer Prize
From the Pulitzer Prize website
ConservativeOpen-minded cartoonist Michael Ramirez, editorial cartoonist with Los Angeles based Investors Business Daily has won a 2008 Pulitzer Prize (via MM).Ramirez, 46, joined IBD in early 2006 — soon after being forced out of the Los Angeles Times. When asked if winning the Pulitzer was especially satisfying after that experience, he took the high road.
“I’m very grateful for the time I spent at the Times,” Ramirez said. “There were some wonderful people there. They gave me a great deal of creative freedom, and were very supportive until the last one-and-a-half years. I’m sad I wasn’t able to win a Pulitzer for them.”
But Ramirez said he’s thrilled to win for his current paper. “It’s fantastic to bring one home for IBD,” he said.
Ramirez previously won the Pulitzer in 1994 for The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, for which he worked from 1990 until joining the Times in 1997.
Cartoons in Ramirez’s Pulitzer portfolio this year included ones that commented on the vagueness of some of Barack Obama’s stands, on the troubled U.S. economy, on the use of corn to make ethanol rather than as food, and on other topics. Ramirez is considered a conservative cartoonist, but said he tries to approach every issue with an open mind. Sometimes, he noted, conservatives criticize his work.
Congrats Michael!
