The ASSociated Press has Supreme Court Denies Williams a Stay

Crips gang founder Stanley Tookie Williams lost a last-ditch Supreme Court appeal that sought to stop his execution early Tuesday in California.

Justices on Monday night refused without comment to intervene and block the execution, hours after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger also declined to spare Williams’ life.

The court’s action was not a surprise, because justices only rarely award stays in the last minute emergency appeals filed routinely on behalf of death row inmates.

Williams was appealing a decision by the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals which said there was no “clear and convincing evidence of actual innocence” in the case.

The U.S. Supreme Court this evening refused to block the execution of Stanley Tookie Williams, hours after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger rejected clemency for the convicted murderer and one of the founders of the Crips.

The governor’s decision was announced moments after a federal appeals court in San Francisco turned down Williams’ request for a stay of execution. Williams is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

So, after 24 years of legal appeals Stanley Tookie Williams will be justly punished as prescribed by California law for murdering four innocent victims.

May he rest in peace and God have mercy on his soul.
