Tony Strickland Watch: Strickland Endorsed by ENTIRE Senate GOP Caucus and by Ventura County GOP
Tony Strickland endorsed by ENTIRE Senate GOP Caucus and by Ventura County GOP
From the way that Tony Strickland’s campaign for California State Senate is gearing up, you would almost think that that he is listed as “incumbent” on the ballot. But, of course, he is not. The incumbent, Senator Tom McClintock, is retiring next year as term limits prevents him from seeking a third Senate term.
Today the ENTIRE 15-member State Senate Republican Caucus endorsed former Assemblyman Strickland in his bid to succeed McClintock.
Strickland’s State Senate endorsement page is here.

His California State Senate website is here.
Flap’s analysis is the same as in January of this year:
This move by Tony Strickland was well-anticipated in Ventura County, California GOP politics.
Strickland is the front-runner and ANY thoughts that Mike Stoker, a field representative for current California State Senator, Tom McClintock are DELUSIONS of GRANDEUR.
Look for an uncontested
February(written before current legislation) June 2008 GOP primary election for this seat and for Tony Strickland to be the next State Senator. If anyone thinks that Strickland will not be the next State Senator
fromrepresenting Thousand Oaks, they must beJim DantonaNUTS.California Assemblywoman Audra Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) and Tony Strickland

Missile Defense Watch: Ground-based Midcourse Defense System Test – Postponed Until Summer
In this photo, provided by the Missile Defense Agency, an old intercontinental ballistic missile is launched as a target during a missile defense test, Friday, May 25, 2007, from Kodiak Island, Alaska. The test of the nation’s long-range missile defense system was aborted when the target rocket failed and its dummy warhead fell into the Pacific Ocean before an interceptor missile could be launched from California, officials said.
The test has been rescheduled for this summer.

John McCain Watch: Flack or Flak?
John McCain in Iraq April 2007
McCain responds and then some
McCain responds to Obama in tough enough, if predictable, language:
“While Senator Obama’s two years in the U.S. Senate certainly entitle him to vote against funding our troops, my service and experience combined with conversations with military leaders on the ground in Iraq lead me to believe that we must give this new strategy a chance to succeed because the consequences of failure would be catastrophic to our nation’s security.”
But, McCain being McCain, he can’t help himself and goes the next step in the statement’s kicker:
“By the way, Senator Obama, it’s a ‘flak’ jacket, not a ‘flack’ jacket.”
Update:
Stay tuned…….

Fred Thompson Watch: Representative Blackburn Jumps Ship
Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson attends the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner, Thursday, May 24, 2007, in Stamford Conn. Hundreds of state Republicans turned out Thursday for the party’s annual fundraising dinner to listen for signs that the pool of presidential hopefuls may have another contender. Thompson was the keynote speaker and the approximate 600 guests paid between $250 to $1,000 for a chance to meet the Tennessee Republican.Previous:

Iraq War Watch: Barack and Hillary Vote With Anti-Iraq War Democrats
Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL (L) listens to Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) speak in Orangeburg, South Carolina, April 26, 2007.Sens. Obama and Clinton earned praise from anti-war activists but criticism from Republicans on Friday for voting against a measure to pay for the Iraq war that sets no timetables for withdrawing U.S. troops.
The vote in the United States Senate was 80-14 and two of the nays were Hillary and Barack.
Were they scared of the NUTROOTS or laying the ground work for their Fall campaigns for the Presidency?
Probably both
But, in order to be successful on the latter President Bush and American troops must be unsuccessful in Iraq.
How disgusting is that? Betting against your own people.
And, there is criticism from the right.
John McCain:
“I was very disappointed to see Senator Obama and Senator Clinton embrace the policy of surrender by voting against funds to support our brave men and women fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan,†McCain, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination, said. “This vote may win favor with MoveOn and liberal primary voters, but it’s the equivalent of waving a white flag to al Qaeda.â€
Mitt Romney:
Romney argued that the vote “singularly defines their lack of leadership and serves as a glaring example of an unrealistic and inexperienced worldview on national security that is regrettably shared by too many of their fellow Capitol Hill Democrats.â€

Giuliani Notes: Rudy 36% McCain 22% Romney 15% in Latest CBS Poll
CBS Poll: Clinton, Giuliani Still In Front
The GOP NUTS:
Rudy is down a bit, McCain is down more and Romney has picked up the slack. However, the 21% for someone else is Fred Thompson? And what impact would a named candidacy have on the numbers?
But, Rudy still leads by double digits and is up to a 8.5 point spread on the Real Clear Politics Poll averages:

Iran Watch: Uproot Israel?
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks in Parliament in Tehran in this May 16, 2007 file photo. Iran’s nuclear work is almost at its “peak”, Ahmadinejad said on Thursday while the head of the U.N.’s atomic watchdog said Iran was probably at least three years from making a nuclear bomb if it so chooses.
Nuclear Blackmail and “UPROOT” Israel talk will win Iran a mushroom cloud.
Boom….

Iraq War Watch: TORN
CNN: Dems in tough spot with war funding bill.
Democrats in Congress face a tough decision on a bill funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that does not include a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops.Vote “yes,” and they are certain to face the wrath of anti-war forces in their political base.
Vote “no,” and they may further delay funding for military operations, in turn exposing themselves to the charge that they don’t support the troops.
Considering those unhappy options, Democratic leaders in the House and Senate decided Tuesday to remove timetables from the bill. President Bush has promised to veto the bill if it does include a withdrawal deadline, a move that would mean delaying much-needed funding for military operations.
But conveying the Democratic leadership’s hesitation to the president, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said members would not be forced into voting for the bill.
“I’m not likely to vote for something that doesn’t have a timetable or a goal of coming home,” Pelosi said.
Anti-war groups are furious at the decision of Democratic leaders to remove the timetables. MoveOn.org released a statement saying it would consider recruiting primary challengers to lawmakers who support the bill, as well as advertising against them in their districts or states.
“Voters elected Democrats in November to lead the way out of the mess in Iraq,” said Eli Pariser, executive director of MoveOn.org Political Action, who decried the bill as “just a blank check for an endless war.”
The pressure the funding measure is putting on Democratic senators running for president was clearly evident Wednesday.
The “SURRENDER MONKEYS” in the Congress really want to disarm the troops but are afraid of the repercussions – which would be suicide politically and electorally.
Come on Pelosi and Reid cut off the funds and vote against the bill!
Isn’t this bill the “blank check” that you did not wish to give the President? Isn’t this capitulation to President Bush?
Stand up for your beliefs…..You know will be happy even though Kos and the NUTROOTS aren’t.
Pelosi and Reid REMEMBER – NO GUTS, NO GLORY
