Ron Paul Watch: Paul Campaign Solicitation on Neo-Nazi Hate Site – The FLAP

pauloctober20hweb

Why does Congressman Ron Paul have campaign ads on a White Nationalist Neo-Nazi Bulletin Board (stormfront.org) which is listed as a hate site?

The Stormfront White Nationalist Community is a white pride Internet forum with the motto “White Pride World Wide”. Many organizations describe it as a neo-Nazi organization, and accuse it of promoting racism, hate speech, and violence.[1][2][3] It has been listed as a hate site, and a number of Internet content filters prevent access to it.[4][5] In Germany, access to Stormfront is blocked by some ISPs in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.[6][7]

Stormfront is owned by Don Black, a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan who was a member of the American Nazi Party in the 1970s.[8][9]In 1981, Black was arrested as he prepared to board a boat stocked with weapons and ammunition to invade Dominica in what he and his accomplices dubbed Operation Red Dog. Black was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in the attempted invasion. He created the website after receiving his first computer training in prison.[10]

The ad:

The Ron Paul discussion thread at Stormfront is here.

Flap was alerted to the association of Congressman Ron Paul from this piece at the Huffington Post: To His Dismay, Ron Paul Becoming Magnet For White Supremacists

Through no fault of his own, Rep. Ron Paul’s anti-globalist, anti-government campaign for the Republican presidential nomination has become a magnet in neo-Nazi networks, pulling in activists and supporters from the fringe white nationalist community where anti-Semitism, anti-black and anti-immigrant views are commonplace.

In some cases, these internet-based activists acknowledge that even though the Paul campaign does not have a racist or anti-Semitic agenda, it can serve as a vehicle to find sympathizers and to recruit new loyalists drawn to the Republican congressman’s opposition to international trade agreements, federal police authority and to the income tax.

Such web-based organizations as Stormfront (motto: “White Pride, World Wide”), Vanguard News Network (“No Jews. Just Right.”) and the Nationalist Coalition (“working to create the relationships that will lay the foundation for the White community that is necessary to our survival”) have become sources of support for Paul’s bid for the Republican nomination, and in some cases have set up separate Ron Paul discussion groups.

At the GOP debate tomorrow, the GOP candidates for President should ask Congressman Paul about this ad and ask him if he subscribes to the filth and hate that is promoted at Stormfront.

All of the GOP candidates should DEMAND that Paul REPUDIATES this site, pulls his ad and returns any money contributed by these Neo-Nazis.

And, Flap has a question for Ron Paul: Are you an anti-Semite, sir?

Stay tuned…….

Ron Paul Watch: The November 5 Creep Show

Allah has the poop on the November 5 Guy Fawkes CREEP SHOW fundraising event for Ron Paul’s fledgling Presidential campaign.

Does anyone know if America’s Greatest Patriot has formally distanced himself yet from any of the myriad kooks and cretins that have attached themselves to his hull? In this week alone we’ve been treated to a report that he’s the candidate of choice for Michigan militia types, an ad cooked up by supporters to reassure voters that the foul hand of Israel holds no sway over him, and now this grassroots promo for a Paul event on November 5 — Guy Fawkes Day, in memory of the man who tried to blow up Parliament — with imagery borrowed from “V for Vendetta,” a violent quasi-anarchist revenge fantasy which creeped Ace out sufficiently to write two separate critiques of how dangerously incendiary it was.

The media’s starting to chatter about the peculiarities of some of the Bircheresque Crank’s more crankish, bircheresque supporters, but they’re always quick to qualify it by noting that Paul hasn’t sought their endorsement — which isn’t true, incidentally, in the case of Truthers, whom he’s deliberately wooed by appearing on Alex Jones’s radio show.

Time for Representative Ron Paul to either publicly embrace the LEFTIST and RIGHT WING nutbars that are supporting him or repudiate their involvement in his campaign.

NZ Bear had these photos from (CORRECTED) outside the FRC’s Washington Values Voter today International ANSWER anti-war rally in D.C. back in September:

And this would be the nice Ron Paul crazies who joined with their Socialist brothers at the protest:

So, will Ron Paul repudiate the CREEP SHOW or embrace it?

Stay tuned……..

Rudy Giuliani Watch: “You Have Nothing to Fear from Me”

Republican Presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani speaks at Family Research Council’s Washington Values Voter Summit Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, in Washington.

Giuliani tries to assure conservatives

Rudy Giuliani tried to find peace with a restless bloc of the Republican Party Saturday, telling religious conservatives not to fear him for his stand on issues such as abortion or expect he would change purely for political advantage.

The GOP presidential candidate sought common ground with his audience by casting himself as an imperfect man who has asked for guidance through prayer.

He offered assurances that despite his support for abortion rights, he would seek to lower the number of abortions. He pledged that if elected, he would appoint conservative judges, support school choice and insist on victory in Iraq — all issues important to the audience at the Value Voters Summit.

The MONEY QUOTES:

• “My belief in God and reliance on his guidance is at the core of who I am, I can assure you of that,” Giuliani said. “But isn’t it better for me to tell you what I believe rather than change my positions to fit the prevailing wind?”
• “People of good conscience reach different conclusions about whether abortions should be legal in certain circumstances,” he said while vowing to increase adoptions.
• “We may not always agree,” he said. “I don’t always agree with myself. But I will give you reason to trust me.”
• Religion is about love, inclusion and forgiveness. It is about salvation. … If we expect perfection from our political leaders, we will be disappointed.
• “You have nothing to fear from me.” Some make me out to be an activist for liberal causes. If you believe that, just check any New York Times editorial while I was mayor.
• “We’ve got to find a way to be more inclusive,” Giuliani said. “Christianity is all about inclusiveness. It’s built around the most profound act of love in human history, isn’t it? … I’m running for president of the United States because I believe I can bring us together. Strong leadership can help us find common solutions to our problems.”
• “I’ll continue to extend my hand to you,” he concluded, “and I hope you’ll take it.”

Rudy on abortion:

• Veto any reductions of the Hyde amendment.
• Support any reasonable suggestion that reduces the number of abortions. Mentions parental notification and PBA ban.
• Make the 10k adoption tax credit permanent.
• Mentions faith-based initiatives.
• Judges.

The Reaction:

• “He comforted a lot of conservatives,” said Bob Kilbanks, an anti-abortion Republican and former congressional candidate in Pennsylvania. “It would be against my conscience to vote for him, but I think he would get a lot of conservative votes and he would come as near to protect life without changing his views and values.”
• Soren Dayton: “His closing applause was much, much stronger than the opening. A lot of the people sitting when he came in were standing. That’s a difference. He may not win the crowd, but he doesn’t need to. He needs to neutralize it.I think he did that. Rudy couldn’t hit a home run, but he could hit a double. And he did.”
• David Brody of CBN: “Here’s the way I see it. The speech was very good and had a lot of issue oriented meat in it. Giuliani was greeted with polite applause but left the room to an even friendlier crowd. To use a football analogy, he may not have gotten in the end zone with this crowd, but he “moved the chains” with this speech. The ball is marching down the field. No fumble.”
• There were signs that Mr. Giuliani might have succeeded in drawing some Christian conservatives to him.David and Merrily Crowe of Tennessee, who run an evangelical group called Restore America, arrived at the convention hall this morning skeptical but curious about Mr. Giuliani. They came away moved by what they described as his “honesty” and “transparency.”“My wife leaned over to me afterward and said, ‘I’m going to vote for him,’” Mr. Crowe said. “And I probably will, too.”

Rudy went into the Lions Den today and stood up for his own beliefs and conscience – respectful but firm.

Isn’t that what America needs as a President? A LEADER

A transcript of the Mayor’s speech is here.

Dingy Harry Reid Lays an Egg Over Rush Limbaugh Letter

limbaughoctober19aweb

Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry “DINGY” Reid attempted political hardball against Rush Limbaugh and, well, laid an egg.

Remember the phony soldiers Flap?

And remember that Dingy Harry wrote a letter of complaint to the Mark Mays, Chairman of Clear Channel, the radio conglomerate which carries Rush Limbaugh’s radio show.

The letter is here.

Mark Mays, the CEO of Clear Channel’s response to “Dingy Harry’s” letter is here.

So, the original Reid letter has fetched over $2 million on eBay and Rush will match this amount to assist the children of Marines and law-enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

And, Reid’s hypocritical response:

REID: MADAM PRESIDENT, EARLY THIS MONTH I CAME TO THE FLOOR TO DISCUSS SOME COMMENTS MADE BY RUSH LIMBAUGH. FOLLOWING MY REMARKS, MORE THAN 40 OF MY SENATE COLLEAGUES AND I CO-SIGNED A LETTER TO THE CHAIRMAN OF CLEAR CHANNEL, MARK MAY, TELLING HIM THAT WE WANTED HIM TO CONFER WITH RUSH LIMBAUGH REGARDING THE } STATEMENTS HE MADE. I’VE SINCE SPOKEN TO MARK MAY ABOUT THIS. MARK MAY, IN FACT, CALLED ME REGARDING THIS LETTER. THIS WEEK, RUSH LIMBAUGH PUT THE ORIGINAL COPY OF THAT LETTER UP FOR AUCTION ON E-BAY. MR. PRESIDENT, WE DIDN’T HAVE TIME, OR WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN EVERY SENATOR TO SIGN THAT LETTER. BUT HE PUT THE LETTER UP FOR AUCTION ON E-BAY AND I THINK VERY, VERY CONSTRUCTIVELY, LEFT THE PROCEEDS OF THAT IT GO TO THE MARINE CORPS LAW ENFORCEMENTS FOUNDATION. THAT PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE TO MARINES AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL WHOSE PARENTS FALL IN THE LINE OF DUTY. WHAT COULD BE A MORE WORTHWHILE CAUSE? I THINK IT’S REALLY GOOD THAT THIS MONEY ON E-BAY IS GOING TO BE RAISED FOR THIS PURPOSE. WHEN I SPOKE TO MARK MAYIC HE AND I THOUGHT THIS PROBABLY WOULDN’T MAKE MUCH MONEY, A LETTER WRITTEN BY DEMOCRATIC SENATORS COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMETHING. THIS MORNING, THE BID IS MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR THIS. WE HAVE WATCHED IT DURING THE WEEK. IT KEEPS GOING UP-AND-UP AND UP. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT ON IT. BUT IT CERTAINLY IS GOING TO BE MORE THAN $2 MILLION. NEVER DID WE THINK THAT THIS LETTER WOULD BRING MONEY OF THIS NATURE. AND, FOR THE CAUSE, MADAM PRESIDENT, IT IS EXTREMELY GOOD. NOW, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT RUSH LIMBAUGH AND I DON’T AGREE ON EVERYTHING IN LIFE AND MAYBE THAT IS KIND OF AN UNDERSTATEMENT. BUT WITHOUT QUALIFICATION MARK MAY, THE OWNER OF THE NETWORK THAT HAS RUSH LIMBAUGH AND RUSH LIMBAUGH SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS LETTER THAT THEY’RE AUCTIONING IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT RAISES MONEY FOR A WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE COULD DO MORE IMPORTANT THAN HELPING TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN OF OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS AND POLICE OFFICERS WHO HAVE FALLEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CHILDREN TO HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION. THINK OF THIS, MORE THAN $2 MILLION — THAT WILL REALLY HELP. THAT’S, AGAIN, AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THERE’S ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF TIME LEFT SO I WOULD ASK THOSE THAT ARE WANTING TO DO MORE, THAT THEY CAN GO TO HARRY REID LETTER AND IT WILL COME UP ON E-BAY. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE INTERESTED WITH THE MEANS TO CONSIDER CONTRIBUTING TO THIS WORTHWHILE CAUSE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE WHEN WE CAN PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE, EVEN HARRY REID AND RUSH LIMBAUGH, WE SHOULD DO THAT AND TRY TO ACCOMPLISH GOOD THINGS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS DOES THAT, MADAM PRESIDENT. MORE THAN $2 MILLION FOR A LETTER SIGNED BY THIS SENATOR AND MY FRIENDS.

OWNED…….

Update:

ABC News credits the Democrats for raising the money.

The bidding ends at 1:00p.m. No mater what, Democrats are going to make a ton of money for a charity off their political vitriol.

How pathetic to be SO biased.

Ron Paul Watch: Libertarians Rising?

Libertarians Rising by Michael Kinsley

The chance of the two political parties realigning so conveniently is slim. But the party that does well in the future will be the one that makes the better guess about where to place its bets. My money’s on the libertarians. People were shocked a couple of weeks ago when Ron Paul–one of those mysterious Republicans who seem to be running for President because everyone needs a hobby–raised $5 million from July through September, mostly on the Internet. Paul is a libertarian. In fact, he was the Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1988. The computer revolution has bred a generation of smart loners, many of them rich and some of them complacently Darwinian, convinced that they don’t need society–nor should anyone else. They are going to be an increasingly powerful force in politics.

The same sloppy journalism and commnentary that resulted in Kinsley being dismissed as the opinion editor at the Los Angeles Times.

Kinsley offers no evidence (besides Ron Paul’s raising $ 5 million in his Presidential Race) that the Libertarian Party is actually increasing in voter registration numbers, number of states that recognize the party or actual votes per party nominated candidate.

Does Kinsley even recognize that Ron Paul is receiving support from the Constitution Party folks? And what is the Constitution Party you ask?

The Constitution Party is a paleoconservative United States political party. It was founded as the U.S. Taxpayers Party in 1992. The party’s official name was changed to the Constitution Party in 1999; however, some state affiliate parties are known under different names. It ranks third nationally amongst all United States political parties in registered voters, with 366,937 registered members as of November 2006, most of whom are registered in California and Nevada.

The Constitution Party advocates a Bible-based platform which it claims to reflect original intent of the U.S. Constitution and the principles of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. The party seeks “to restore American jurisprudence to its original Biblical common-law foundations.”

And the history of this party goes back to George Wallace’s America Independent Party and Ross Perot’s Reform Party. Fancy that.

Internet fundraising is an important tool for a Presidential campaign. But, Kinsley, gives the shine of campaign cash for Ron Paul more importance to political ideology and third party affiliations than to the mechanics of fundraising.

Libertarians rising?

No threat to either the Democrats or the GOP.

Stay tuned…….

Hillary Clinton Watch: Unlikely Chinatown Campaign Contributions Raise More Questions

hillaryoctober192007aweb

The candidate’s unparalleled fundraising success relies largely on the least-affluent residents of New York’s Chinatown — some of whom can’t be tracked down.

Something remarkable happened at 44 Henry St., a grimy Chinatown tenement with peeling walls. It also happened nearby at a dimly lighted apartment building with trash bins clustered by the front door.

And again not too far away, at 88 E. Broadway beneath the Manhattan bridge, where vendors chatter in Mandarin and Fujianese as they hawk rubber sandals and bargain-basement clothes.

All three locations, along with scores of others scattered throughout some of the poorest Chinese neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx, have been swept by an extraordinary impulse to shower money on one particular presidential candidate — Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Dishwashers, waiters and others whose jobs and dilapidated home addresses seem to make them unpromising targets for political fundraisers are pouring $1,000 and $2,000 contributions into Clinton’s campaign treasury. In April, a single fundraiser in an area long known for its gritty urban poverty yielded a whopping $380,000. When Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) ran for president in 2004, he received $24,000 from Chinatown.

Flap knew the Norman Hsu scandal would grow. Plus, look at the Charlie Trie scandal. This is a continuing program of deception and money laundering.

Now, is there enough evidence for a Federal Elections Commission and a Federal Grand Jury to explore the faintest idea that offshore Chinese interests have been bolstering the campaign of Hillary Clinton?

Why has former President Bill Clinton REFUSED to list the donors to his Presidential Library?

This scandal will continue to grow as the Clinton campaign hurriedly starts to return contributions. If they can find them that is.

Will someone from the Clinton Cabal rat them out? And, what has Norman Hsu been blabbing to Federal investigators?

Stay tuned……….

Update:

The latest on Norman Hsu:

Jailed fund-raiser Norman Hsu began popping pills on his way out to California for a court appearance last month and continued to down over-the-counter drugs in a failed suicide attempt when he went on the run, the Daily News has learned.

Hsu’s effort to kill himself is detailed in court papers obtained Wednesday by The News. The “excessive number of over-the-counter pills” eventually led Hsu’s kidneys to fail and induced severe delirium. He was in such bad shape when authorities pulled him off an Amtrak train in Colorado that emergency room doctors thought he was suffering from West Nile virus.

Hsu, who helped raise some $800,000 for Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) while a fugitive from crimes in California, is in jail. He is due back before a California judge Nov. 2. He also faces federal charges he bilked $60 million from investors in a huge Ponzi scheme.

Clinton has returned donations from 249 Hsu associates, but yesterday the Los Angeles Times reported some of the same donors also gave $263,000 to her Senate accounts – money she doesn’t intend to return.

ramireztoon091407cweb

Update #2:
Clinton’s campaign is so full of questionable transactions that even the Nation, a left-wing magazine, has dug up a mysterious influence peddler named Alan Quasha who hires Clinton operatives and has links to top Clinton’s top fundraisers.
Meanwhile, the online magazine Salon is wondering why the Clintons are not disclosing the identities of donors to the William J. Clinton Foundation as it increases its cash intake just as Hillary becomes the presidential front-runner. Bill Clinton refuses to release their names because he says they gave anonymously. Could they too be foreign and looking to buy influence?
For the mainstream media, and especially those on the left side of the spectrum, to rouse themselves to such reporting is unusual. It points to something very dramatic, like a threat to democracy.
Sen. Clinton knows that enforcing election laws is difficult. When she gets called out, she returns the cash, pleads ignorance, claims a vetting glitch and returns to normal.
Unfortunately, the odds of getting caught are low, the political costs are slight and the sanctions are so light they invite lawbreaking. Most candidates won’t go over the line, but a bounder like Hillary may cynically calculate that voters are easily distracted.
But things aren’t the same as they were in the days of Whitewater. That Clinton scandal may have been hard for the public to grasp, but the current shenanigans are not. News outlets are picking them up with ease and can describe them in a couple of sentences.
Also, the advent of FEC databases and political cash Web sites such as campaignmoney.com and opensecrets.com are providing transparency and easy access to financing information. They show who is buying whom in the electoral races, and bloggers and pundits are on it. If Hillary thinks this will dissipate like Whitewater, she is mistaken.

Vladimir Putin’s ‘grandiose’ plans signal start of new nuclear arms race

Vladimir Putin signalled the return of the arms race yesterday when he boasted of developing new nuclear weapons and warned the United States not to ignore Russia’s objections to a missile defence shield in Europe.

The Russian President announced a “grandiose plan” to restore Russia’s armed forces, which he appeared to link to the US invasion of Iraq. He described the invasion as an attempt to seize control of oil supplies and warned that Russia could defend its energy reserves against external threats.

He set out his plans during a live, televised question-and-answer session with ordinary Russians. A mechanic from Siberia raised a comment, allegedly made by Madeleine Albright, the former US Secretary of State, that it was “unjust” for Russia to have exclusive control of the region’s oil reserves.

The United States and its NATO allies should NOT be lulled into complacency regarding Putin and Russia.

America should continue to develop new military technologies to combat the continued threat of a Russia nuclear attack.

Peace Through Strength.

And Russia has NO business continuing in the G-8.

Pete Stark Drags SCHIP Political Circus to All-Time Low

The Money NUTTER Quote:

“You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement.”

– Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA)

These Left Wing Democrat nutbars cannot let George Bush and the Iraq War go. It applies to everything.

This is BULL.

How about an apology, Congressman Stark?

Don’t count on it……

Update:

From Matt Drudge:

Leader Boehner Calls on Democratic Rep. Stark to Retract Statement, Apologize to American Troops and their Families

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding remarks made on the House floor by Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) during the debate on the State ChildrenÕs Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):

“Our troops in Iraq are fighting against al-Qaeda and other radical jihadists hellbent on killing the people we are sent here to represent. Congressman StarkÕs statement dishonors not only the Commander-in-Chief, but the thousands of courageous men and women of AmericaÕs armed forces who believe in their mission and are putting their lives on the line for our freedom and security. Congressman Stark should retract his statement and apologize to the House, our Commander-in-Chief, and the families of our soldiers and commanders fighting terror overseas.”

During debate on the SCHIP children’s health care legislation today, Rep. Stark stated: “You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President’s amusement.”

Other Money quotes from Representative Pete Stark:

• A few years earlier, Stark called Rep. Nancy Johnson, R-Conn, a “whore” for the insurance industry, and referring to her marriage to a doctor, said: “The gentle lady got her medical degree through pillow talk.” (Rep. Stark takes swipe at Bush over his past alcohol use, The San Francisco Chronicle, FEBRUARY 7, 2003)
• According to the transcript, the 71-year-old Stark turned to the [Congressman Scott McInnis]: “Oh, do you think you’re big enough to make me, you little wimp? Come on. Come over here and make me. I dare you, you little fruitcake. You fruitcake. I said you’re a fruitcake.” (CALIF. DEM STARK CALLS MCINNIS A ‘FRUITCAKE’Rocky Mountain News, July 19, 2003)

And check out the Morons boasting over at the Daily Kos.

This is what you get when you have Democrat gerrymandered districts in California – Moron Nuts in elected office.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Putin Brokering a “DEAL”?

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, left, shakes hands with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice prior to their meeting at Olmert’s Jerusalem residence, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007.

Olmert to discuss Iran with Putin

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert flew to Moscow on Thursday in a surprise visit to discuss Iran’s nuclear program with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who just returned from talks with Iranian leaders in Tehran.

The two leaders also were expected to discuss an arms deal that Russia is to sign with Syria, and Russia’s role in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking efforts.

Olmert’s one-day visit was announced only after Putin had returned from Iran, where he vowed Tuesday to support Iran’s pursuit of nuclear energy and warned “outside forces” — hinting at the United States — against using force against Tehran.

World leaders are experts of saying one thing and meaning another.

Is something other than what seems going on here?

Perhaps

President Bush said Wednesday that he wanted to get a readout directly from Putin about his visit to Iran and issued a stark warning that a nuclear-armed Iran could trigger World War III.

While in Tehran, Putin made an unspecified proposal concerning Iran’s nuclear program to the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported. Officials close to hardliners within Iran’s ruling Islamic establishment said they believed the proposal involved a “timeout” on sanctions if Iran suspends uranium enrichment.

The Iran nuclear crisis is coming to a head.

Are Putin’s bellicose statements regarding the United States a “SMOKESCREEN” for an Iranian capitulation? Or a prelude to War?

Stay tuned……..

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (L) and Russian President Vladimir Putin shake hands upon Putin’s arrival in Tehran. Putin backed Iran’s right to nuclear energy and argued against military action, during the first visit to the country by a Kremlin chief since World War II.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Competitive in Iowa?

Republican presidential hopeful and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani speaks at a town hall meeting at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007.

Rudy in Iowa: Is he or isn’t he?

Is he or isn’t he?

That’s the question on the lips of anxious Iowa Republicans, hoping to figure out whether or not their party’s national front-runner, Rudy Giuliani, is really competing in the state’s caucuses.

For skeptics, there’s plenty of evidence that the answer is no. Giuliani’s entire strategy, as made plain by candidate and campaign alike, is based on performing well in the large states that will hold their primaries after the traditional early contests.

Indeed, the tear-sheet next to the main entrance of the former New York mayor’s Manhattan campaign headquarters counts down the days to Feb. 5, the day of “Tsunami Tuesday,” not Jan. 3, the day Iowa Republicans decreed this week as their caucus date.

Rudy’s strategy?
