Reuters: Panel sends Alito nomination to full Senate
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines on Tuesday to approve President George W. Bush’s nomination of
Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, moving the 55-year-old conservative a step closer toward confirmation by the full Republican-led Senate. With 10 Republicans voting yes and eight Democrats voting no, the committee sent the nomination to the 100-member Senate. The full chamber is to begin debate on Wednesday, with a confirmation vote as early as the end of this week.
Pretty much as Flap handicapped.
Now will come the filibuster.
Stay tuned.

Samuel Alito Watch: Filibuster Likely?
Sen. John Warner , R-Va, right, greets Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito prior to their meeting on Capitol Hill, Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006.
Robert Novak: Filibuster Alito?
Pressure from liberal activists to oppose confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court has been so intense that Democratic senators may be trapped into a filibuster that they do not want to wage.
Despite the consensus that Alito performed well in his confirmation hearings, leaders of liberal organizations opposing him — Ralph Neas, Nan Aron and Wade Henderson — demand that Democrats vote against him. Consequently, Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska is the only Democrat at this writing who has announced in Alito’s favor.
That means the number of senators voting “no” will be well over the 41 needed to prevent cloture. Pressure groups then could ask why no filibuster had been launched. But Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid may not want to risk causing Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist to set a precedent by using the “nuclear” option: to end a filibuster by simple majority vote.
The liberal special interests may indeed be pushing Reid to call a filibuster. But, will he call one if he does not have to votes to deny cloture? What would be the point and it would isolate those Senators breaking caucus ranks.
But, stranger strategy has prevailed from the left. A filibuster will be called if Reid has the votes to deny clotureand Flap thinks that he does.
Medford News: Oregon’s Wyden To Oppose Nomination Of Judge Samuel Alito To U.S. Supreme Court
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) released the following statement today announcing that he will vote against the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court when it comes to the floor of the Senate…
California Yankee has Wyden story here: Wyden Makes Nine Senate Democrats That Oppose Alito
Oregon’s Senator Wyden announced that he will vote against the confirmation of Judge Alito. The Senate Democrats that have announced they will vote against confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court now numbers now numbers nine:
Baucus (MT), Durbin (IL), Feinstein (CA), Harkin, (IA), Kennedy (MA), Leahy (VT), Mikulski (MD), Salazar (CO) and Wyden (OR).
The California Yankee has a running tally on the Alito confirmation here.
Flap handicaps a filibuster likely with Bill Frist moving for a change of the U.S. Senate rules (Nuclear option).
The fanaticism of the Moonbat LEFT will require Democrat solidarity (except Ben Nelson).
The Republicans minus Chafee will NUKE the rules, confirm Alito by a party-line vote (with Nelson for and Chafee against).
Flap’s Handicap vote:
Senate Judiciary Committee
10 Yes (All Republicans)
8 No (All Democrats)
Filibuster with NO Cloture
Cloture Vote
55 Yes (All Republicans except Chafee and Nelson voting for)
45 No (All Democrats and Chafee)
Confirmation Vote
55 Yes (All Republicans except Chafee and Nelson voting for)
45 No (All Democrats and Chafee)
A partisan vote will allow Karl Rove and the RNC to run ads citing the unprecedented partisan obstruction (filibuster) of a well qualified appeals court judge.
Stay tuned…….

Samuel Alito Watch: Leahy Will Vote NO on confirmation
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito (C) listens to a question from ranking Democrat Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) (R) as Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) looks on during tAlito’s confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill, January 10, 2006.
U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (news, bio, voting record) of Vermont, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced his opposition on Thursday to Supreme Court nominee
Samuel Alito.What a surprise.
Leahy charged that President George W. Bush’s 55-year-old conservative candidate failed to demonstrate at last week’s confirmation hearing that he would bring a needed independence to the nation’s highest court.
“At a time when the president is seizing unprecedented power, the Supreme Court needs to act as a check and to provide balance,” Leahy said in a speech prepared for delivery at Georgetown University Law Center.
“I have no confidence that Judge Alito would provide that check and balance,” Leahy said. “I cannot support this nomination.”
What an EXCUSE.
Leahy couldn’t devise a rationale for denying Judge Alito’s confirmation.
How pathetic……
Stay tuned for more Morons from the Democrat LEFT demonizing Justice Alito……

Samuel Alito Watch: Democrat Senator WILL Vote for Confirmation
Reuters: Senate Democrat backs Alito for US Supreme Court
Ben Nelson of Nebraska, a moderate voice in the U.S. Congress, on Tuesday became the first Senate Democrat to announce his support for conservative Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, who is expected to be confirmed later this month by the full Republican-led Senate.
“I have decided to vote in favor of Judge Samuel Alito,” Nelson said in a statement issued by his office.
“I came to this decision after careful consideration of his impeccable judicial credentials, the American Bar Association’s strong recommendation and his pledge that he would not bring a political agenda to the court,” Nelson said.
A Democrat in a very red state of Nebraska – such a courageous move – NOT.
Of course, Ben Nelson will vote for Judge Alito. A judge of his qualifictions is what America desires in their supreme court justices.
Senator Ben Nelson is NO Dianne Feinstein and that is a GOOD thing.
Judge Alito is on his way to becoming Justice Alito.
The Political Teen has the video of the announcement here.
Michelle Malkin has A DEMOCRAT SENATOR FOR ALITO
Let’s see how many MSM outlets will lovingly call him a “maverick.” Or is that label only reserved for John McCain and George Voinovich?
More Democrat Senators will move the confirmation vote past the filibuster threshold of 60 prior to the 24th meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Samuel Alito Watch: Democrats Force One Week Delay in Senate Judiciary Committee Vote
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, right, along with his wife Martha look on during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill, Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.
Reuters: Democrats force delay on high court nominee vote
Democrats on Monday forced a one-week delay on a vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, but the 55-year-old conservative was still expected to be confirmed by the full Republican-led Senate.
Still, the Democratic action ended hopes by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican, to have President George W. Bush’s nominee confirmed by the end of this week for a seat on the nation’s highest court.
“The Democrats’ decision to delay … is unjustified and desperate partisan obstructionism,” Frist said in a statement.
“Despite these tactics, Judge Alito remains on track to be confirmed as Justice Alito,” Frist said. “A Justice delayed will not be a Justice denied.”
The Senate Democrats do NOT have the votes to block Alito’s confirmation. So, they have to be JERKS and pull an immature delay stunt.
How juvenile…….
Alito WILL BE CONFIRMED but after another senseless week of delay……

Samuel Alito Watch: Senator Dianne Feinstein Warns Against Filibuster
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito takes his seat as his son Philip passes behind him during the third day of his Senate confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill, January 11, 2006.
ASSociated Press: Feinstein Warns Against Alito Filibuster
A Democrat who plans to vote against Samuel Alito sided on Sunday with a Republican colleague on the Senate Judiciary Committee in cautioning against a filibuster of the Supreme Court nominee.
“I do not see a likelihood of a filibuster,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. “This might be a man I disagree with, but it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be on the court.”
She said she will not vote to confirm the appeals court judge, based on his conservative record. But she acknowledged that nothing emerged during last week’s hearings to justify any organized action by Democrats to stall the nomination.
“If there’s a filibuster of this man based on his qualifications, there would be a huge backlash in this country,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. He is one of 14 centrist senators who defused the Senate’s showdown over judicial filibusters last year, saying such a tactic is justified only under extraordinary circumstances.
No, Senator Graham it would mean that if you do not have a political philosophy palatable to the minority Democrats and their amen choir special interests – spelled abortion industry that a citizen has NO chance of sitting on the United States Supreme Court.
If the Democrats filibuster, the Gang of 14 would vote cloture with the majority Republicans enabling an up or down majority vote. And, yes, there would be a backlash.
But Feinstein, who said she was concerned about Alito’s conservative record on abortion rights and deference to executive power, acknowledged the 15-year appellate judge had the legal credentials to serve on the Supreme Court.
“I was impressed with his ability to maintain a very even demeanor,” she said on CBS'”Face the Nation.”
“I think there is an additional weight you must give to his background, his qualifications and his ability,” she said.
Additional weight? Feinstein is a clueless partisan who must appease the Democrat special interest groups who will fund her re-election campaign in California this year. Judge Alito is a especially well qualified jurist with over 15 years on the federal appellate court bench.
But, then again, she really could self-fund her own re-election campaign since her husband’s (Richard Blum) company received that $600 million Iraq War contract – sheesh.
Feinstein is floating/promoting this trial balloon so that her special interest friends will not squander their resources on television ad buys when Feinstein and the Democrat caucus are resigned to the fact that Alito will be confirmed.
Captain Ed at Captain’s Quarters has more on the Democrat White Flag of Surrender on Alito: Feinstein: Forget The Filibuster
Dianne Feinstein stuck a fork into Democratic plans to delay the Alito confirmation earlier today, officially running up a white flag in the Democrats’ war on judicial nominations for the time being. The California Senator and one of the few Judiciary Democrats to not embarrass herself during the hearings disregarded the advice of her leadership and declared that Samuel Alito deserves his up-or-down vote from the full Senate….

Samuel Alito Watch: Headed for Confirmation
US Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito answers questions on his fourth, and likely final day of hearings before Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Alito said US law is unclear as to whether President George W. Bush could launch a military invasion of Iran or Syria without congressional approval.
Reuters: Democrats take last jabs at Alito
Democrats pressed a final time for more definitive answers from U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito as a third day of questioning got under way before a U.S. Senate panel on Thursday.
The conservative Alito headed toward anticipated confirmation, however, despite continued wrangling with Democrats who fear he will steer the nation’s highest court to the right on abortion, civil rights and other issues.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania Republican, started the day by reporting a search of records demanded by Democrats found no mention of Alito in a controversial Princeton University alumni group — an issue some Democrats hammered away at in earlier questioning.
The questioning is OVER. No gaffs, no mistakes, no conflicts.
An excellent Judge.
UP or DOWN VOTE – CONFIRM ALITO!
