South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson Implicated in Alleged GOP Blackmail Plot?

    Katon Dawson

South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson

A reader dropped this piece on Flap: Alleged GOP Blackmail Plot Exposed

Last year, an unidentified blackmailer allegedly went to the home of S.C. Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson with information of a highly personal and sensitive nature involving a prominent South Carolina Republican official.

Multiple theories exist as to the identity of this GOP official (and the nature of the information ostensibly provided to Dawson), but for the purposes of this narrative and on the advice of our attorneys we are sticking exclusively to what has been confirmed to us by law enforcement personnel, not political sources.

After divulging the nature of the incriminating material, the blackmailer is said to have requested $200,000 dollars to furnish all copies of the material in their possession to Dawson.

According to our sources, after viewing a sample of the material and receiving the extortion demand, Dawson reportedly told the blackmailer to give him twenty-four hours to come up with the money.

The next day, the blackmailer is said to have returned to Dawson’s home, only they didn’t receive the money – but were instead taken away and given a savage beating by three SLED agents.

Following the beat down, the blackmailer was reportedly informed that “this is what happens” to people who attempt to extort money from elected officials in South Carolina.

They were also reportedly informed that they had 24 hours to leave the state and never return – an “offer” the blackmailer accepted.

Katon Dawson has some ‘plaining to do – especially to the assembled Republican National Committee which is meeting and selecting a new Chairman this week. Why did Dawson not report the extortion attempt and was he behind the “VIGILANTE” justice?

Flap has opined that Dawson should withdraw as a candidate for Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

This is just another nail in his coffin.

    Update:

Then, there is this fake/parody USA Today headliner (circulating anonymously around GOP circles) which speaks to the same issues as Flap has:

Damon may be one of the few remaining conservatives in D.C., but with the “BONERS” of the past few days by Obama and the majority Democrats, a return to power may not be that far away in the future.

Flap is encouraged with the GOP modernization program in technology and outreach. Next on the agenda, choosing a new forward thinking and new generation Republican National Committe Chairman.

Former Maryland GOP Lt. Governor and Fox News Contributor Michael Steele is involved in a tough race for the RNC Chairmanship.

Every Republican activist Flap knows seems to like Michael Steele but not necessarily for the day to day operations of the party apparatus. Everyone acknowledges that Steele will make a great spokesperson for the GOP, particularly on television and talk radio. But, are the nuts and bolts of the party outside his expertise?

These two mailers to Republican National Committee Members seem to address this criticism.

Why Flap is NOT Missing a John McCain Election

    McCain-and-Blago

Senator John McCain on ABC’s “This Week”, December 14, 2008

    Answer (s):

    • “You know, in all due respect to the Republican National Committee and anybody — right now, I think we should try to be working constructively together…”. Video is here.
    • “The committee’s report details the inexcusable link between abusive interrogation techniques used by our enemies who ignored the Geneva Conventions and interrogation policy for detainees in U.S. custody,” Sen. McCain said in a statement. “These policies are wrong and must never be repeated.”

Flap is not losing ANY sleep either wondering if McCain will EVER support Sarah Palin or any other Republican for President.

Like an old soldier, McCain should just fade away – and quickly.

But, “The Maverick” John McCain, the RIGHT’S (?) Presidential candidate says the GOP should give President-Elect Barack Obama a pass on his association with Hot Rod Blagojevich trying to sell his U.S. Senate seat.

McCain even chastized the Republican National Committee.

Looks like a surrender – nothing personal there.

Should South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson Withdraw as a Candidate for Chair of the Republican National Committee?

    Katon Dawson

South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson

    The answer is YES.

    Double YES

Three Strikes and you are OUT.

State GOP chairman Katon Dawson, who is campaigning to lead the national Republican Party organization, has resigned a 12-year membership in a whites-only Columbia country club.

Dawson said last week his continued membership at Forest Lake Club could become a distraction to his efforts to help win elections for Republicans in South Carolina.

With the upcoming inauguration of the first African-American President of the United States does the Republican Party want to deal with this “BAGGAGE.” Not really a winning message, is it?

Gee, POTUS would NOT be allowed to play golf there?

Katon Dawson should withdraw his candidacy.

BarackBook: A Social Network of Obama Shady Friends

    From the press release:

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced today a new Web video, titled “BarackBook.” The video highlights Barack Obama’s ties with the people who helped jump-start his career in politics and those who have helped him along the way, included unapologetic terrorist William Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko.

    The script:

VO: Over the years, Barack Obama has built a social network of shady political patrons and his list of friends continues to grow.

Tony Rezko is his top friend.

Obama was able to purchase his house $300,000 below list price, while Tony’s wife, Rita, purchased the lot next door for full market value on the same day.

As it turns out, Rezko was also linked to Joe Biden.

Both Biden and Rezko are longtime friends with Joseph Cari, who pled guilty to a federal extortion charge in the Chicago Rezko trial.

He’s been in Biden’s list of friends for 30 years and was his Midwest field director in ’88.

Cari took part in an $850,000 kickback scheme – part of the political fundraising operation for Governor Blagojevich led by Rezko.

And after a few friends posted some links, Biden wrote this on his own wall, “All I know is Joe Cari is a friend, and he’s an honorable guy, but I don’t know anything beyond that.”

Barack Obama’s social network has quite a cast of characters.

To read about the rest of them, go to BarackBook.com.

This is an interesting and humorous “PLAY” on Facebook social networking in the Obama “Chicago crooked” sort of way.

    Check it out……

Flap will again be microblogging the convention proceedings in the right sidebar under Twitter Updates or Follow Flap on Twitter.
