A CNN switchboard operator was fired over the holiday — after the operator claimed the ‘X’ placed over Vice President’s Dick Cheney’s face was “free speech!”
“We did it just to make a point. Tell them to stop lying, Bush and Cheney,” the CNN operator said to a caller. “Bring our soldiers home.”
The caller initially phoned the network to complain about the all-news channel flashing an “X’ over Cheney as he gave an address live from Washington.
“Was it not freedom of speech? Yes or No?” the CNN operator explained.“If you don’t like it, don’t watch.”
And what does the telephone operator know more than the CNN executives who claim a “computer glitch or bug?”
Laurie Goldberg, Senior Vice President for Public Relations with CNN, said in a release:
“A Turner switchboard operator was fired today after we were alerted to a conversation the operator had with a caller in which the operator lost his temper and expressed his personal views — behavior that was totally inappropriate. His comments did not reflect the views of CNN. We are reaching out to the caller and expressing our deep regret to her and apologizing that she did not get the courtesy entitled to her. ”
In other words, PLEASE WATCH CNN.

Senior Bush administration officials have considered the unthinkable: What if Saddam Hussein is found not guilty in his trial?
“There will be more charges filed against him, and more charges after that, if needed… he has committed tremendous crimes,” a top Bush source explained last week from Washington.
Saddam and seven of his former henchmen currently face charges of crimes against humanity over a 1982 massacre of Shiite villagers.
But, we all recognize the legal process is not always JUST. And results not always predictable – despite the evidence.

A defiant Saddam has refused to recognize the court and has declared himself president of Iraq.
Prosecutors hope to win a conviction by using videotape of Saddam issuing assignation orders.
Meanwhile, Iraqi police say they have captured an Al-Qaeda cell plotting to kill the chief judge in charge of building the case.
The trial resumes Monday after a five-week recess.
After all, OJ and Robert Blake were acquitted.

Some think Saddam has immunity since he continues to claim to be the President of Iraq.

Drug war – The new policy restricting pseudoephedrine could crimp the flow of meth to the United States and drive up its street costMexico plans to slash imports of pseudoephedrine by 40 percent this year, acknowledging that drug cartels have artificially inflated demand for the key ingredient in methamphetamine.
Health officials in Mexico said the country has been importing more pseudoephedrine than its citizens need for cold medicine, and imports will be cut from 224 tons in 2004 to 134 tons in 2005.
Mexico’s new policy is among the boldest by any country to prevent diversion of the cold-medicine ingredient by drug traffickers. And it could disrupt at least temporarily the main source of meth production for the United States, reducing the drug’s availability to an estimated 1.4 million American users.
Kudos to California Senator Dianne Feinstein for her role in pursuading Mexico President Vincente Fox to investigate this problem.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will hold a private hearing at his Sacramento office Dec. 8 to consider whether to grant clemency to convicted murderer Stanley Tookie Williams, co-founder of the Crips street gang.
Margita Thompson, the governor’s press secretary, said Schwarzenegger’s decision to hold the private meeting with lawyers representing Williams and the families of his victims did not indicate which way he was leaning on whether to commute Williams’ sentence from death to life in prison without possibility of parole.
“The governor reviewed the material in the case this week,” Thompson said late Friday. “He decided the best route is a private clemency hearing, so he can hear directly from counsel.”
What more does Schwarzeneger need to consider?
Another hearing – and how many years has it been?…….over 24 years!

For example in 1994 my office prosecuted Stanley 46 Williams’ son, Stanley “Little Tookie†William, Jr., a “Neighborhood Crip†for shooting a twenty year old girl to death in an alley off of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood in a gang retaliation shooting. “Little Tookie†was convicted by a jury of murder.
Now this revelation is just a real stunning gem. I couldn’t invent it. Here’s a guy who is supposed to be spared because he writes children’s books, but his own son is a convicted murderer.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that he would consider granting clemency to Crips co-founder and convicted murderer Stanley Tookie Williams.
After a private hearing with Williams’ lawyers at his Sacramento office, Schwarzenegger said he would meet again on Dec. 8 with the lawyers, Los Angeles County prosecutors and others involved.
Governor Schwarzenegger can consider ALL HE desires. But, the four murdered victims of Tookie’s violence deserve JUSTICE.
Tookie MUST suffer the ultimate penalty of our criminal justice system.
As governor, he has the authority to commute a death sentence to life without parole. He is not legally obligated to hold a public or private hearing. Schwarzenegger decides clemency requests on a “case- by-case basis,” said his spokeswoman, Margita Thompson.
Williams, 51, faces death by lethal injection on Dec. 13 for the 1979 slayings of four people _ a Whittier convenience store clerk and three people at a Pico Rivera motel a few days later. He maintains his innocence and has asked the California Supreme Court to reopen his case, alleging shoddy forensics wrongly connected him to three of the murders.
The Supreme Court has not ruled on his petition.
Los Angeles top law enforcement officers have asked Schwarzenegger to show NO MERCY for Williams.Williams is a “coldblooded killer” who has “left his mark forever on our society by co-founding one of the most vicious, brutal gangs in existence, the Crips,” according to the statement urging Schwarzenegger to deny clemency.
The letter was from Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.
“Williams now seeks mercy, the very mercy he so callously denied” his four victims, according to the document, designed to counter Williams’ clemency petition submitted this month.
“Despite the overwhelming nature of the evidence against him, and despite the nonexistence of any credible defense, Stanley Williams steadfastly refused to take any responsibility for the brutal, destructive and murderous acts he committed,” according to the statement. “Without such responsibility, there can be no redemption, there can be no atonement, and there should be no mercy.”

In addition, Cooley sent a letter saying that since Williams founded the Crips, the gang “has been responsible for literally thousands of murders in Los Angeles County alone.”
Baca and Bratton also sent letters urging Schwarzenegger to show no mercy for Williams, now 51, who publicly renounced gang life nearly a decade ago.

I cannot wait until the founder of the Crips dies at the hands of the California justice system. This convict has actually convinced people that if you write some children’s books, that you can redeem yourself for a quadruple murder conviction. That doesn’t say much for the state of conviction these days. So long as he fries, I can handle it.
“Tookie deserves to die. Plain and simple. If he’s such a saint, let’s hurry him on his way to his everlasting reward.”
If Schwarzenegger grants Tookie clemency it will be mean a Republican Primary Election challenge for him in June …… and Arnold’s retirement from California politics.

Iraq War Watch: THE NOBLE CAUSE
Akef TayemA few miles away in a field beside the main road leading to Bush’s ranch, a lone Bush supporter set up camp Thursday with a tent and signs reading: “A Noble Cause.” The signs showed pictures of smiling Iraqi children.
Akef Tayem, who participated in pro-Bush rallies in Crawford this summer, said he returned because he felt Bush was under pressure to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. But Tayem said that would be a mistake because Iraqis want democracy and appreciate what the U.S. is doing, especially the ousting of Saddam Hussein.
“Perhaps the troops, they feel like they don’t get gratitude or a thank you, and I’ll come and say ‘Thank you’ in my own way because it’s Thanksgiving,” said Tayem, who lives in Dallas and has relatives in Jordan.

Tom Cruise has made an unusual purchase for his fiancee Katie Holmes – one that will let them see the development of their baby.
“I bought a sonogram machine,” Cruise says on ABC’s Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2005, to air Nov. 29 (10 p.m. EST). Excerpts of the interview are published in the latest issue of People magazine, on newsstands Friday.
The 43-year-old actor said the couple will do their own sonograms, which show fetus development with ultrasound waves. Cruise said he will donate the machine to a hospital after the baby is born. Sonogram machines range in cost from $25,000 to $200,000.
But, will Katie be QUIET?
