Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy in Santa Barbara California Part 2
Folks waiting for the arrival of Rudy Giuliani at Joe’s Cafe on State Street in Santa Barbara, California around 3 PM September 27, 2007
Joe’s Cafe begins to fill up inside with supporters and patrons looking for a drink or the BUZZ
Our hosts at Joe’s and Flap did not get their names
Rudy’s Santa Barbara/Central Coast Campaign coordinator, Ashley and an Obama supporter who tried to ask Rudy about the Iraq War as Rudy was leaving Joe’s.
Rudy arrives by car and is mobbed for photos and autographs by the waiting crowd
Rudy greets the crowd who literally mobbed him and pushed Flap to the side
Maria Comella, Deputy Communications Director is seen on the right of this photo
The Mayor jumped over the bar for this photo with the bartender
Flap worked his way over to his booth where he met the Mayor, showed Rudy his blog/laptop and discussed the utility of KimWipes in cleaning eyeglasses. And a supporter snapped this photo with my camera.
Rudy stepped outside the cafe for a press availability and Flap has video of that which he will provision and get up probably tomorrow.
The Mayor then was off to Santa Barbara airport to fly to Lancaster/Palmdale for an evening event(s) in the Antelope Valley.
Hizzoner will visit The Original Pantry in downtown Los Angeles tomorrow morning. Flap assumes former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan will be there to officially endorse Rudy for President.
Stay tuned……..

Senator Larry Craig Watch: Craig Will NOT Resign September 30
Jason Gabbert (L) and Anthony Wright (R) protest in support of Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), during arguments inside the Hennepin County District Court building in Edina, Minnesota, September 26, 2007. A Minnesota judge said on Wednesday that he would make no immediate decision on U.S. Sen. Larry Craig’s bid to take back the guilty plea he made after a sex-sting arrest, and the Idaho Republican left it unclear whether he would resign next week as he said he would.
Not good news for Senator John Ensign, Chair of the NRSC and the GOP Senate Caucus.
Larry Craig will stay in office until judge rules
Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) will stay in office until the judge rules on his motion to withdraw his guilty plea, the senator said in a statement.
“Today was a major step in the legal effort to clear my name. The court has not issued a ruling on my motion to withdraw my guilty plea. For now, I will continue my work in the United States Senate for Idaho.”
Best case for the GOP was for Craig to go and go quickly. Now, the GOP will suffer a slow protracted pervert moment.
Stay tuned………

Giuliani Poll Watch: Rudy Catches Mitt Romney in New Hampshire
(L-R) Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Republican presidential candidates former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) take the stage for Fox News Channel Republican Presidential debate at the University of New Hampshire, September 5, 2007.
POLL: CNN/WMUR New Hampshire GOP Primary
- Former Gov. Mitt Romney narrowly leads former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (23% to 22%) in a statewide primary; Sen. John McCain trails at 17%, former Sen. Fred Thompson at 12%, former Speaker Newt Gingrich at 7%. Without Gingrich, Romney runs at 25%, Giuliani at 24%, McCain at 18%, and Thompson at 13%. All other candidates receive less than five percent each.
- 13% have “definitely decided” who they will vote for in the New Hampshire primary, 21% are “leaning toward someone” and 66% are “still trying to decide.”
- “[Romney’s] statistically-insignificant, 1 point margin is a major change from CNN/WMUR’s last New Hampshire poll, taken in July, when Romney held a comfortable 14 point lead over Giuliani.”
Rudy – 22%
Romney – 23%
McCain – 17%
Thompson – 12%
New Hampshire is now considered a “DEAD HEAT.”
Let the media wars begin as Romney attempts to regain his lead and McCain tries a come from behind gambit.

Former California Governor Pete Wilson to Endorse Rudy Giuliani for President Tomorrow
Former California Governor Gray Davis, right, speaks to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as former Governor Pete Wilson, left, looks on, during a news conference Thursday Aug. 23, 2007 in Los Angeles. The three along with members of the Voices of Reform Coalition including Common Cause and League of Women Voters met to discuss ways promote a fundamental change in the way political boundaries are drawn to insure fairness and transparency in elections.
Ex-governor Pete Wilson to endorse Giuliani
Rudy Giuliani expects a plum endorsement this week from one of California’s leading Republicans, former governor Pete Wilson.
The Republican presidential candidate and former New York mayor planned to announce Wilson’s support at a news conference Thursday in Santa Monica, according to several people with knowledge of the endorsement. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Flap is not surprised by this endorsement since both Mayors have similar social views with strong national defense credentials.
Will this be enough of an incentive for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to endorse Rudy?
Remember Schwarzenegger has a goodly number of former Wilson staffers working for him.
Flap thinks it is unlikely that the Governator will this early endorse the Mayor. But, it is possible after January 2008 if Rudy continues to poll well in California.

Giuliani Chief Fundraiser Anne Dunsmore Out
Presidential hopeful and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, left, meets with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in New York.
Rudy Giuliani fires chief fundraiser
In a sign of potential money woes, Rudy Giuliani has fired his presidential campaign’s chief fundraiser and brought in a top rainmaker for President Bush, The Daily News has learned.
Anne Dunsmore, who took control of Giuliani’s day-to-day fundraising operation in May, has been replaced by Jim Lee, a Texas money man and Bush ally who is already one of Giuliani’s national finance co-chairs.
“Anne Dunsmore is no longer working on our campaign,” Giuliani communications chief Katie Levinson confirmed. “We thank Anne for her service and the departure is amicable.”
Not a good sign on the money front for the Mayor. A sign of weakness that certainly CAN be exploited.
Will this be the opening for Newt Gingrich?
Or the beginning of Mitt Romney stepping up the self-funding?
Stay tuned….

Hillary Clinton Watch: Hsu Contributions Help Hillary Supporters
Norman Hsu (L) is escorted inside a courtroom in Redwood City, California, September 21, 2007. Democratic fund-raiser Hsu was charged with fraud and campaign finance violations in a case that has prompted presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton to return $850,000 in contributions.
In a story that is NOT going away for Hillary Clinton, the Boston Globe today outlines how Hillary’s campaign used Norman Hsu and his bundled contributions to not only enrich her campaign but help gain/persuade/aid Presidential supporters.
Disgraced fund-raiser Norman Hsu did a lot more than just pump $850,000 into Hillary Clinton’s campaign bank account: He also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local, state, and federal candidates who have endorsed Clinton or whose support she courted.
A major fund-raiser for Democrats since 2003, Hsu became one of Clinton’s biggest bundlers – gathering scores of individual checks and sending them to her campaign. But since revelations last month that Hsu was a fugitive in a 15-year-old California fraud case, Clinton has said she would return the $850,000 she has taken from him and his associates.
In at least some cases, Clinton or her aides directly channeled contributions from Hsu and his network to other politicians supportive of her presidential campaign, according to interviews and campaign finance records. There is nothing illegal about one politician steering wealthy contributors to another, but the New York senator’s close ties to Hsu have become an embarrassment for her and her campaign.
So, who did Hillary help with Hsu contributions?
Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack speaks at a Hillary Clinton campaign fundraiser in New York, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007
Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack who last week as a Hillary surrogate attacked Rudy Giuliani on his multiple marriages:And in February, when former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack ended his own White House bid, he was about $450,000 in the red. A month after dropping out, Vilsack endorsed Clinton, and Clinton agreed to help him retire his debts. (Both insisted there was no quid pro quo.)
Over the next few months, some of Clinton’s biggest fund-raisers gave Vilsack checks, including Hsu, who kicked in the maximum allowable contribution, $2,300, on May 3 after attending an event organized by Clinton’s campaign, Newsweek reported this month. An associate of Hsu’s, Paul Su, chipped in $1,000 on the same day.
Governor Vilsack hasn’t learned the lesson of GLASS HOUSES, has he?
Other Clinton supporters/endorsers helped with Hsu contributions:
- Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan – $20,000 +
- Senator Mark Pryor of Arkansas – $11,000
- Senator Dianne Feinstein of California – $17,000 +
- Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa – $50,000 – His wife is a Clinton supporter.
And remember Flip’s chart of contributions:
Hillary last week said about the contribtions:Clinton said in a National Public Radio interview last week that Hsu’s past was “a rude awakening to all of us – I mean, not only in my campaign, but the dozens of campaigns going back to, I guess, 2003 and ’04 who, you know, took contributions. None of us caught this and we all ran searches.”
Yet a California businessman had warned the Clinton campaign:
But the Los Angeles Times reported earlier this month that a California businessman had warned the campaign about Hsu in June and that a Clinton aide dismissed the concerns. “I can tell you with 100 [percent] certainty that Norman Hsu is NOT involved in a ponzi scheme. He is COMPLETELY legit,” Samantha Wolf, Clinton’s former West Coast campaign finance director, wrote in an e-mail to a California Democratic Party official, the Times reported.
This story is NOT going away. And it is NOT the “VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY” who will be outing the story but the MSM and the FBI.
Whenever the Clinton’s run there is something in their campaigns that NEVER smells quite right.
Fred Thompson was right about Charlie Trie.
Thompson adviser Rich Galen said Clinton’s 2008 campaign has become “the sequel†to her husband’s scandal-plagued 1996 campaign.
“You have to look at this with a great deal of skepticism that – having been through this sort of thing in ‘96 – that nobody thought to say, ‘Hey, you know, we better take another look at this before we take all this money,’ †he said.
“And the fact that nobody did – or if they did, they decided to just put their finger in front of their lips and say shhh and try to sneak off into the distance – tells you a great deal about the fact that the Hillary Clinton campaign is the Bill Clinton campaign redux.â€
Clinton is returning donations to 260 people who were recruited by Hsu. The FBI is investigating whether these were merely “straw†donors who were funneling money from Hsu to Clinton to skirt campaign finance laws.
In March 1996, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s legal defense fund accepted money from straw donors recruited by Yah Lin “Charlie†Trie. The Taiwan-born Democrat hand-delivered hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of checks and money orders in two manila envelopes to the defense fund.
Is it the ARROGANCE of the Clinton’s or POLITICAL MEDIA MANIPULATION that make them think they can cover up every SCANDAL?
Stay tuned……

Iran Nuclear Watch: Nuclear Issue Closed
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addresses the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007.
Iran leader says nuclear issue closed
Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared Tuesday that Iran’s disputed nuclear program is closed as a political issue and said Tehran will ignore a U.N. Security Council demand imposed by “arrogant powers” to curb its nuclear program.
Instead, he told world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly that Iran has decided to pursue the monitoring of its nuclear program “through its appropriate legal path,” the International Atomic Energy Agency, which is the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency.
When Ahmadinejad was ushered to the podium, the U.S. delegation walked out, leaving only a low-ranking note-taker to listen to his speech, which indirectly accused the United States and Israel of major human rights violations. State Department spokesman Gonzalo Gallegos said the U.S. wanted “to send him a powerful message.”
The Iranian president spoke shortly before German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned the diplomats of “disastrous consequences” for Israel and the world if Iran acquires a nuclear bomb. “The world does not have to prove to Iran that Iran is building a nuclear bomb. Iran has to convince the world that it is not striving towards such a bomb.”
The nuclear issue IS closed for the United States and Israel.
Next, will come European Union-American harsh economic and travel sanctions. When the sanctions fail within six months or so, the United States Navy will blockade the Iranian import of gasoline.
Of course, Israel may become impatient and bomb Natanz and other Iran nuclear facilities straight away.
