Mitt Romney Watch: He Gets It?
Presidential hopeful and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney hosts an ‘Ask Mitt Anything’ town hall at Chapman University Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, in Orange, Calif.
Romney Tries to Show Voters He ‘Gets It’
Mitt Romney: Opportunistic flip-flopper? Or the rare Republican who “gets it” at a time when his party is losing favor with the general public?
In the battle to define his presidential candidacy, the former Massachusetts governor is trying to swat away charges that he has changed positions on hot-button issues such as abortion, immigration, gun ownership and gay rights to appeal to his party’s conservative base.
Yet, even as he tries to distance himself from his moderate record, Mr. Romney also embraces it to reach voters in the middle — both Republicans uncomfortable with the direction of the party and independent voters he would need in a general election.
Mitt “GETS IT.”
He will do anything and say anything to get himself elected President.
Like Hillary Clinton, Romney is NOT someone Flap would choose as his next President.

Hillary Clinton Watch: Cannot Pledge Iraq Troop Withdrawal
Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-NY) speaks during a candidates’ debate on health care and financial security issues in Davenport, Iowa, September 20, 2007. President George W. Bush believes Democrat Hillary Clinton will win her party’s presidential nomination but that the Republican nominee will beat her in the November 2008 election, a new book said.
Sen. Clinton Can’t Pledge Troop Withdrawal
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said this morning that she will not make any pledges regarding a U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq.
“We don’t know what we’re going to inherit,” she said on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “None of us do. We don’t know what’s going to be done in the last 15 months of the Bush-Cheney administration.”
But Clinton reiterated her desire for an immediate troop withdrawal.
“I hope it happens in the next 15 months — but if it doesn’t, it will happen immediately upon my becoming president,” she said.
The senator called for limited missions to remain in place but declined to estimate remaining troop levels.
“Clearly, withdrawing is dangerous,” she said. “It has to be done responsibly, prudently, carefully, but we have said that there will be a likely continuing mission against al Qaeda in Iraq. … So I think that there are some limited missions, but the numbers we’re talking about are very much smaller than what we have there, and … the missions would be better defined.”
In other words, Hillary will do and say whatever is politically expedient – just like her husband, Bill.
This may play today but will NOT in the general election debates.
Stay tuned……

Iran Watch:The Ahmadinejad Show
The above image was originally posted last October. It’s an optical illusion called an “inversion.” If you look at the upside-down version just below, you will see a caricature of Iranian President Ahmadinejad. For more about the image and why came to be, see the original post. I’m reposting it because, with Ahmadinejad speaking at Columbia University, comparisons of Ahmadinejad to Hitler are making the news.
Ahmadinejad Arrives for New York Visit
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, facing protests and tabloid headlines calling him “evil” and a “madman,” stirred debate Monday about free speech ahead of his appearance at Columbia University.
Columbia President Lee Bollinger has promised to grill Ahmadinejad on subjects such as human rights, the Holocaust and Iran’s disputed nuclear program. The Iranian leader previously has called the Holocaust “a myth” and called for Israel to be “wiped off the map.”
Bollinger said Monday it was a question of free speech and academic freedom.
“It’s extremely important to know who the leaders are of countries that are your adversaries. To watch them to see how they think, to see how they reason or do not reason. To see whether they’re fanatical, or to see whether they are sly,” he told ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Ahmadinejad is to speak and answer questions at a Columbia forum Monday, followed by a scheduled address to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.
Flap will love the questions from the students and academics. But, will Ahmadinejad allow them?
Ahmadinejad loves to play the Western Media cycle from afar but will he be able to withstand scrutiny of an open forum?
Stay tuned as his appearance at Columbia University begins at 1:30 PM EDT.
Charles Johnson has a list of the various protests here.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: California State Budget in Deficit as Much as $10 Billion
While answering questions Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tells reporters that he would veto a gay marriage bill approved by the legislature, at a Capitol news conference in Sacramento, Calif., Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.
Didn’t Californians recall Democrat Governor Gray Davis because of fiscal irresponsibility?
And didn’t Arnold promise to fix the state’s poorly managed finances?
Right on both.
If the California budget is this out of balance look for the quick end of the Governator’s short political career.
Update:
Looks like Arnold’s state planners cannot balance his health care proposal either. What a mistake Californians made with Schwarzenegger.

Mitt Romney Watch: Change Begins with Us

John Hinderacker has it RIGHT. Mitt Romney is TOO SLICK by half, you would say. And untrustworthy.
The ad is ok but with Mitt’s flipping positions how do you know what is next? Romney is worse than another SLICKSTER in this regard – namely, Bill Clinton.
Hugh Hewitt has it WRONG.
First, there is New Hampshire where the race is tightening.
He ignores historical polls and Presidential delegate rules in California that show Rudy with substantial leads in California Congressional districts where the delegates are chosen.
And who cares what the Los Angeles Times rag writes about anyone?

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hillary Care 2.0
John Fund from the Wall Street Journal has the story with HillaryCare Flops in California.
Hillary Clinton is patting herself on the back for proposing a health-care plan that is much more politically astute than her 1993 Rube Goldberg effort. She told an audience in New York this week: “I think I have successfully thought through all of the objections and pre-empted them.”
She may want to think again. Last January, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed an eerily similar plan using the same rhetoric and even the same slogan adopted by Mrs. Clinton to describe hers: “Shared Responsibility.”
That’s no coincidence. Both ArnoldCare and HillaryCare 2.0 are the product of the same advisers. But despite all of its clever political compromises, ArnoldCare is bogged down in trench warfare in California’s liberal Democratic Legislature. If anything passes, it will likely be only a shell of a bill without any financing component. Legislators will hope voters approve a general tax increase to pay for it in November 2008.
Does Arnold REALLY think he can sell a TAX INCREASE to Californians to pay for illegal alien health care?
If anything, the Governator may be helping put California in play for Rudy Giuliani by stimulating an anti-tax turnout for November 2008.
Flap says bring it on Hillary – I mean Arnold.

Iran Watch: Ahmadinejad to Provide Correct and Clear Information About the World
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reads the Quran, the Muslim holy book, with the head of the supreme leader’s office, Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, as he leaves Tehran, Iran, Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, for New York to attend the U.N General Assembly. Ahmadinejad said Sunday that the American people are eager to hear different opinions about the world, and he is looking forward to having the chance to voice them during his trip to the U.S., state media reported. Also seen in the picture is media adviser to the president, Mehdi Kalhor, center.
Iran’s leader: U.S. wants new opinions
Right.
And the correct and clear information for the American people is Iranian HEGEMONY over the entire Middle East.
America has already prepared its response.
