canadaterrorjune5web8wt Canada Terrorism Watch: Canadian Terror Probe Expands to 7 nations

Mohammad Alam, President of the Toronto Islamic Foundation, speaks to police outside the Foundation’s centre in Toronto, on Sunday, June 4, 2006, following a press conference.

ASSociated Press: Canadian terror probe expands to 7 nations

Police said Monday more arrests are likely in an alleged plot to bomb buildings in Canada, while intelligence officers sought ties between the 17 suspects and Islamic terror cells in the United States and five other nations.

A court said authorities had charged all 12 adults arrested over the weekend with participating in a terrorist group. Other charges included importing weapons and planning a bombing. The charges against five minors were not made public.

The Parliament of Canada, located in Ottawa, was believed to be one of the targets the group discussed.

Authorities said more arrests were expected, possibly this week, as police pursue leads about a group that they say was inspired by the violent ideology of the al-Qaida terror network.

“This investigation is not finished,” Mike McDonell, deputy commissioner for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told Canadian Broadcasting Corp. on Monday. “Anybody that aided, facilitated or participated in this terrorist event will be arrested and prosecuted in court.”

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day also predicted more arrests. Another senior government official told The Associated Press on Sunday that more warrants were being gathered and that arrests were likely, possibly this week.

Although both Canadian and U.S. officials said over the weekend there was no indication the purported terror group had targets outside Ontario, McDonnell told National Public Radio on Monday that the inquiry has expanded beyond Canada.

And about that NSA Surveillance program – don’t hear much from the critics.

A U.S. law enforcement official said investigators were looking for connections between those detained in Canada and suspected Islamic militants held in the United States, Britain, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Denmark and Sweden.

American authorities have established that two men from Georgia who were charged this year in a terrorism case had been in contact with some of the Canadian suspects via computer, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.

Prosecutors have said the Georgia men, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee and Syed Haris Ahmed, traveled to Washington to shoot “casing videos” of the Capitol and other potential targets.

Sadequee, 19, a U.S. citizen who grew up near Atlanta, is accused of lying to federal authorities during an
FBI terrorism investigation. Ahmed, 21, a Georgia Tech student, faces a charge he provided material support and resources for terrorism.

Nope, do not hear much BLEATING at all about the NSA Surveillance Program.

Stay tuned…….

sheehanapr12bweb8tm Cindy Sheehan Watch: Support the Troops?

Cindy Sheehan mouths off again.

Support the troops? I support only those who are NOT supporting the exploitation of the Iraqi people, and those who do not allow the war profiteers to carry on with their death and destruction all for the sake of an opulent lifestyle. I do not support those who are supporting a criminally insane and treacherous foreign policy. However I, as the mother of a slain soldier, will do anything I can to support all of them by working to shorten their stay in an unwelcoming country, and bring them home from the quagmire that their so- called commander in chief forced them into. Also, when our troops do come home from the war, they need all of the counseling, job training and help they require to transition back to a life where most people don’t even recognize that there is a war being waged. BushCo and the war machine killed my baby. They have killed tens of thousands more.

BushCo need to be prosecuted and punished like the common criminals that they are.

Right.

And which troops does she support?

MORON

Allah and Ace have it RIGHT.

MILFO

irannukejune5ajpgweb9ib Iran Nuclear Watch: United States Sweetens the POT

(From L to R) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi and former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani attend a ceremony to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the death of Iran’s Islamic revolutionary leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, at the mausoleum of late Imam Khomeini in Tehran. Khamenei declared in a speech marking the anniversary that the Islamic republic must not give up its “scientific goals” in the face of “threats and bribes.

AFP: US sweetens offer to Iran: diplomats

The United States has offered to lift some of its trade sanctions against Iran as part of a package of benefits the EU will deliver to get Tehran to guarantee it will not make nuclear weapons, diplomats told AFP.

The United States is proposing “lifting sanctions partially, not only waiving sanctions but actually lifting them,” in an agreement to be worked out in multilateral talks that would start once Iran suspended uranium enrichment, said a senior Western diplomat, who requested anonymity.

Washington, which considers Iran a sponsor of terrorism and now fears it is covertly developing nuclear weapons, has since the mid-1990′s banned most US trade and investment with the Islamic Republic.

Lifting sanctions would allow sales to Iran of things like agricultural technology and commercial planes to replace the country’s dilapidated fleet.

US officials have said they want to keep the details of the proposal secret in order to avoid the appearance of threatening Iran.

And why was this SWEETENER leaked?

Diplomatic cover for a deal the Unites States KNOWS Iran will NOT ACCEPT.

On the benefits side, which encompasses trade, security and technology benefits, the United States “is not only interested in allowing Europe to sell Airbus airplanes to Tehran but also supplying (US-made) Boeings,” the diplomat said.

And trade in agricultural fields, “where the United States is particularly competitive … is important for Iran since Iran is still a rural country in lots of ways,” the diplomat added.

And Condi outmaneuvers Europe as well…..

Stay tuned…….

grahamjune5web2wz Senator Lindsey Graham Watch: Is Senator Graham Blocking Conservative Nominee Haynes?

Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) is being lobbied by conservatives to allow a vote on appellate court nominee William James Haynes.

Washington Post: Conservatives Backing Nominee Look at Graham

No longer content with bashing Democrats for their obstruction of President Bush’s judicial nominees, a coalition of conservative groups is now turning its attention to a prominent Republican — Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.).

The campaign, led by the Committee for Justice, is aimed at persuading Graham to allow a vote on William James Haynes II, the general counsel at the Department of Defense and a nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Although the campaign is in its infancy, organizers expect it to develop into a national e-mail and telephone lobbying effort.

“A key reason why Lindsey Graham is Senator Graham is because he ran as opposed to the obstruction of the president’s judicial nominees,” said Sean Rushton, executive director of the Committee for Justice. “We hope he’ll remember that.”

Graham insists he has engaged in no formal obstruction of Haynes, nor has he enlisted other senators to do so. Along with colleague and political ally John McCain (R-Ariz.), Graham has expressed concern regarding the advice Haynes provided the Bush administration on the treatment of detainees captured in the war on terrorism. “The role Mr. Haynes played as DOD general counsel formulating these policies and whether he was receptive to legal advice from the military will be a line of inquiry when his nomination is brought up,” said Kevin D. Bishop, communications director for Graham.

Haynes was nominated in 2003.

Opposing conservatives on one of their pet issues carries political risks for both Graham and McCain. Since winning the seat vacated by the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R) in 2002, Graham has faced occasional opposition from his party’s base, a resistance that hardened when he joined a bipartisan group of senators — the “Gang of 14″ — to defuse a showdown on judicial nominees.

Charleston developer Thomas Ravenel, who narrowly lost a bid for the GOP Senate nomination in 2004, has encouraged speculation that he might mount a primary challenge to Graham in 2008 but is seeking state office in 2006.

Senator Graham deserves a primary challenge.

Every time he is on national media the MORON makes a fool out of himself and the GOP.

He is NO Strom Thurmond.

Another reason for NOT ONE DIME NOR ONE VOTE.

Powerline has Arlen Specter or Tom Daschle, take your pick

Graham is widely thought (along with Senator McCain) to be obstructing the nomination of Jim Haynes, the general counsel of the defense department. Graham apparently has tight connections with military lawyers who disliked the Pentagon’s legal position on detainee interrogations. The Post quotes a spokesman for Graham who expresses concern that Haynes may not have been receptive enough to “advice from the military.” However, Haynes was obliged to take his legal advice (if that’s what the spokesman is referring to) from the Justice Department and the Office of White House Counsel, and he did so.

If Senator Graham nonetheless feels that Haynes is unfit to serve on the Fourth Circuit by virtue of his legal memos (or for any other reason) that’s fine. But let’s have the debate and the vote.

Up or down vote, Senator Graham!

mckinneyoff2web4ru Representative Cynthia McKinney Watch: McKinney Probe Enters 3rd Month

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: McKinney probe enters 3rd month

Police unions criticize U.S. attorney

The grand jury investigation of 4th District Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney enters its third month today with no hint from the federal prosecutor about how much longer it will take to settle a case that legal experts said should have been wrapped up in a matter of days.

McKinney was accused of striking a Capitol Hill police officer March 29, and the case was referred to the grand jury April 5. The drawn-out process of deciding whether she should be charged with assault has police fuming that the DeKalb County Democrat is getting preferential treatment from a politically motivated prosecutor.

If Flap or anyone else had been accused of assaulting a Capitol Police officer a fast disposition of the case would have ALREADY been realized.

Is Representative McKinney above the law?

Or does playing the RACE CARD have its privileges?

“Right from the start this U.S. attorney has handled this case differently from every other case,” said Chuck Canterbury, national president of the Fraternal Order of Police. “And it’s because she is a sitting congresswoman.”

What most angers the police about the McKinney case is that it involves an assault — no matter how minor — of a police officer. Police reported that McKinney hit an officer in the chest after he failed to recognize her as a member of Congress and tried to stop her from going around a security checkpoint, something members of Congress and their aides are typically allowed to do.

“It’s obviously frustrating for us,” said Andy Maybo, head of the Capitol Hill police union. “This sends out the message that it’s OK to hit a police officer — and it’s not, regardless of who you are.”

In legal terms, McKinney’s case “is as simple as you can get,” said George Washington University legal expert Jonathan Turley. Usually anyone who hits a police officer is immediately arrested on felony charges, police and legal experts said.

Of course, the case is simple.

Doesn’t the United States Attorney and the Grand Jury watch COPS?

Come on, arrest McKinney and deliver the justice this MORON earned.

Stay tuned…..
