Fugitive fundraiser Hsu captured in Colorado
Fugitive political fundraiser Norman Hsu, who skipped out on San Mateo County authorities this week rather than face sentencing for a 1992 fraud conviction, was apprehended Thursday night by federal and local lawmen in Grand Junction, Colo.
Authorities said Hsu was taken into custody at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction at 7 p.m. local time. He had been on the lam for almost two days after failing to appear in a Redwood City courtroom Wednesday to surrender his passport.
Hsu was taken off a passenger train at the Grand Junction train station earlier in the day by paramedics who requested a backboard to move him, said Sgt. Lonnie Chavez with the Grand Junction Police Department.
Authorities received a request for medical assistance at the train station at about 11:15 a.m., but the exact nature of Hsu’s condition was unclear, Chavez said. Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital declined to comment.
FBI spokesman Joseph Schadler said Hsu will be returned to California on the 1992 conviction once released from the hospital.
Hsu’s attorney told state prosecutors that Hsu had been on a charter flight that arrived at Oakland International Airport at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and then dropped out of sight, said Gareth Lacy, a spokesman for the state attorney general’s office.
Amtrak’s California Zephyr train offers service from nearby Emeryville to Grand Junction before heading to Denver and Chicago. The Zephyr left Emeryville at about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday and was scheduled to arrive in Grand Junction before noon Thursday.

Norman Hsu Skips Bail Reduction Hearing
Fox News et. al. are reporting that Norman Hsu was a NO SHOW for court and that he was not required when he surrendered last week to turn in his passport.
Hsu forfeits $2 million in bail he posted last week. An arrest warrant has been issued.
Hsu’s lawyer says he doesn’t know where he is.
Hsu has been a fugitive in California for 15 years during which time he became a top donor to Democratic candidates, including presidential contenders Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
Hsu pleaded no contest in 1991 to a felony count of grand theft, admitting he’d defrauded investors of $1 million in a bogus investment scam.
Prosecutors say he was facing up to three years in prison when he skipped town before being sentenced.
Federal Election Commission records show Hsu donated $260,000 to the Democratic party and candidates since 2004.
So, where is Norman Hsu
And check out Flip’s summary of the extent of Norman Hsu’s contributions to Democrats.

Michael Ramirez on Democrat Fundraiser Norman Hsu and the Clintons
A controversial Hillary Clinton fund-raiser surrendered to California authorities yesterday – 15 years after skipping out on a possible three-year jail term for a fraud conviction.
Businessman Norman Hsu was cuffed and bail was set at $2 million, with a judge turning down his request to cut the bail in half. He was released on bail five hours later.
The Clintons and the smell of dirty campaign money has returned (remember Bill Clinton’s pardon of Mark Rich?) and is tainting the Democrat Party.
All of the Democrats who received Hsu’s contributions are now scrambling to rid themselves of the money – from New Jersey’s Senators to New Mexico’s Governor and Presidential candidate Bill Richardson.
Fancy that……
Stay tuned as Hsu and the others are scrutinized for their ties to foreign interests.
And the Los Angeles Times asks how Hillary could not know about Hsu.
Gateway Pundit has an excellent round-up of the Hsu-nami that has hit Hillary and other Democrats:
- Macranger has more on the curious Mr. Hsu.
- Kurt Hoglund built a Google Notebook of “All Things Hsu”.
- Don Surber reports- Hillary Hears a Hsu
- Clarice Feldman– Left Hand Meet Right Hand
- Captain’s Quarters questions Hillary.
Hillary’s donor case goes back to court next week
Michelle Malkin reports that the Justice Department is looking into Norman Hsu’s possible straw campaign donations as a result of the Wall Street Journal report.

Fugitive Democrat Fundraiser Norman Hsu’s California Contributions Under Scrutiny
*****Update*****
Norman Hsu turns himself into authorities and is jailed.
A top Democratic fundraiser wanted as a fugitive in California turned himself in Friday to face a grand theft charge.
San Mateo County Superior Court Judge H. James Ellis ordered Norman Hsu handcuffed and held on $2 million bond. A bail hearing was scheduled for Sept. 5, at which the judge will consider reducing his bail to $1 million.
Hsu appeared in court accompanied by a lawyer and publicist, both of whom declined to say whether the New York apparel executive would immediately post bail. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he skipped the sentencing for a 1991 grand theft charge.
In the ensuing years, Hsu became a top donor to numerous Democratic candidates and was a fundraiser for presidential contender Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He also had contributed to Sen. Barack Obama’s past Senate campaign and his political action committee.

Well, they have been active in California state and local politics as well – to the tune of $53,000.
Let’s see who received the obviously TAINTED money:
Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles
California Attorney General Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris
Former San Francisco Supervisor and now California Democrat Assemblywoman Fiona Ma. She represents Daly City where the Paw family residence is.
Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot
Democrat Congresswoman Doris Matsui (middle right)
Former California Controller and Democrat candidate for Governor in 2006, Steve Westly
Former California Treasurer and Democrat nominee for California Governor in 2006, Phil Angelides
Hsu et. al. have also given considerable sums to the California Democrat Party.
According to state and local records, Hsu has given more than $53,000 to various political efforts in the state since 2004, including $27,600 to the state Democratic Party, $5,000 to 2006 gubernatorial hopeful Steve Westly and $10,000 to Hollywood director Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot.
The state party gave $26,600 of that money back three weeks after Hsu donated it in 2004, said Bob Mulholland, a party consultant.
“Mr. Hsu asked for the money to be returned, saying he had made the donation in error,” Mulholland said. “We haven’t returned the $1,000 he gave us earlier this year, but the party will be looking at that contribution.”
Calling the Federal Elections Commission and the California Fair Political Practices Commission, what in the hell have you been doing?
Standard = NOTHING
Flap says there is a political scandal here involving offshore Chinese interests which are not only illegal but subversive to the American politcal system.

Purdue University Graduate Student UNHINGED and Arrested for Threats to President Bush et al Part Three
Purdue University Engineering
Flap had the first part of this story and missed the end. But, two of my children are back at Purdue, ready for the start of the new semester and I came across the end of the line for Vikram Buddhi.A Purdue University graduate student was convicted of threatening to kill President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and others in postings on the Internet.
Vikram Buddhi, 35, an Indian national who was attending advanced engineering classes at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, was found guilty by a federal jury yesterday on 11 counts of making threats that were posted in a chat room in 2005 and 2006.
Buddhi faces up to 35 years in prison when he is sentenced later this year.
All bark and thankfully no bite from this NUT.
Wonder if Homeland Security will deport him after he serves his sentence?

Fox News: Judge Freezes Congressman Jefferson’s Assets
A federal judge Thursday froze the assets of Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., who was indicted this week on charges of soliciting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes.
Among the 16 criminal counts Jefferson is facing is a criminal forfeiture count, and prosecutors have already said they will seek to recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars from Jefferson that they believe he obtained illicitly by peddling his influence to help broker business deals in Africa.
Jefferson is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in U.S. District Court.

Representative William Jefferson Watch: Boehner Seeks Jefferson Expulsion from the House
U.S. Attorney Chuck Rosenberg (L) is joined by Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher (R) as they announce the indictment of Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) on 16 counts of public corruption, including bribery, in Washington, June 4, 2007. Jefferson was indicted on Monday on 16 criminal counts for conspiring to solicit bribes and pay off a Nigerian official, with $90,000 of an intended bribe found hidden in his home freezer wrapped in aluminum foil.
Boehner seeks Jefferson expulsion
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) moved quickly to force the expulsion of Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) from Congress following his indictment Monday on federal corruption charges.
The Republican leader will ask members of the House to vote on a resolution requiring the ethics committee to review the indictment filed against him in order to seek his expulsion from the House, according to his office.
Boehner will offer a privileged resolution on the House floor as early as Tuesday calling for the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to review the 94-page indictment filed against Jefferson Monday. The House will then vote on his resolution calling for the ethics panel to act.
The Justice Department indicted the Louisiana Democrat Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money laundering.
And the Speaker should immediately ask Jefferson to resign from all House Committees pending his trial.
A 16 count federal indictment does not look good for Jefferson or the Democrat’s “Culture of Corruption.”
Flap thinks Jefferson should resign but Jefferson will only do that after his “plea deal.”

Representative William Jefferson Watch: Jefferson Will Be Indicted
From Drudge:
Sources tell CBS NEWS that Congressman William Jefferson (D-LA) will be indicted this afternoon on more than a dozen counts involving public corruption. The Justice Department is expected to unveil the charges later today…
What a surprise – NOT.

Update:Indictment Sought Against Rep. Jefferson
Sources tell CBS News that authorities are seeking an indictment against Congressman William Jefferson, D-La., on more than a dozen counts involving public corruption.
Jefferson has been the subject of a ongoing probe in which FBI agents allegedly found more than $90,000 in cash in his freezer.
CBS News correspondent Bob Orr reports that the Justice Department is expected to unveil the charges later today.
This was the latest development in the 16-month international investigation of Jefferson, who allegedly accepted $100,000 from a telecommunications businessman, $90,000 of which was later recovered from a freezer in the congressman’s Louisiana home.
Last year prosecutors and the FBI seized nearly 19,000 pages of documents and electronic files from his office.
Update #2:Jury Indicts Jefferson in Bribery Probe
Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., was indicted Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money-laundering in a long- running bribery investigation into business deals he tried to broker in Africa.
The indictment handed up in federal court in Alexandria., Va., Monday is 94 pages long and lists 16 alleged violations of federal law that could keep Jefferson in prison for up to 235 years, according to a Justice Department official who has seen the document.
Among the charges listed in the indictment, said the official, are racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money-laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case.
Wonder if Speaker Pelosi will ask him to step down from ALL committee assignments pending trial?
Stay tuned……

Michael Angelo Morales Watch: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Halts Construction of San Quentin Death Chamber
The San Quentin prison in San Quentin, California, December 12, 2005. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered work on a new death chamber halted after lawmakers complained the project was going forward without their approval and because its cost has exceeded expectations, a state prison system spokesman said on Friday.
Schwarzenegger halts construction of new death chamber
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered a halt to construction on a new death chamber at San Quentin, which his administration started in January without legislative approval.
Jim Tilton, secretary of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said Friday that at least one employee faces disciplinary action for the decision to revamp the death chamber without proper authorization.
“The governor as asked me to stop the project,” Tilton told reporters Friday. “He is very concerned about maintaining good communications with the Legislature and we should have done a much better job with that.”
Officials began construction after concluding it would cost $399,000 — just under the $400,000 level which triggers legislative approval, according to an administration document obtained last week by The Chronicle.
The new death chamber is being finished as the state’s use of capital punishment is under review by a federal court, and lawmakers have yet to authorize a larger construction project to revamp the prison’s entire Death Row.
Tilton said the total cost of the improvements is more than $700,000 and that the department would seek legislative approval for the work as part of the budget process in the coming months.
The Death Chamber at San Quentin Prison
Arnold wimps out to the anti-Capital punishment dominated Democrat legislature because he needs their cooperation to balance the California State Budget.
No GUTS, NO GLORY Governor.
Everyone knows that U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel’s intervention in the Michael Angelo Morales execution case is CRAP.
Governor, don’t discipline the staff member who was attempting to expeditiously honor the will of California voters on Capital punishment – just build the damn death chamber, refurbish Death Row and execute Morales.
Remember Morales’ victim, Terri Lynn Winchell?
