John McCain Watch: Obama Should Cut Wesley Clark Loose

Gen. Wes Clark interview on Fact the Nation Sunday June 29, 2008

John McCain this evening in route to Columbia has escalated the Wesley Clark FLAP to a higher level. McCain has told Barack Obama that he should “cut him loose.”

Sen. John McCain appeared to raise the stakes in the ongoing back-and-forth over Wesley Clark’s controversial comments, saying Tuesday evening that Barack Obama should “cut him loose.”

Speaking to reporters on his press plane en route to Colombia, McCain suggested it’s time for the Illinois senator to completely sever ties with the former general and onetime presidential candidate

“I think it’s up to Senator Obama now to not only repudiate him but cut him loose.”

The comments last Sunday and reiterated today on ABC’sGood Morning America are bull shit and McCain has the right to call Obama and Clark out.

Obama has not been pressed to absolutely repudiate Wesley Clark and may be afraid to do so since the LEFT has been applauding Clark’s comments.

But, just like the Jeremiah Wright flap this will NOT go away until Obama yet again throws a supporter under the bus.

Now, who will be the next Democrat lackey to attack McCain’s military record. Senators James Webb, Jay Rockefeller and George McGovern have already been used up.

Again, highlighting the fact that Barack Obama has NO military experience.

    Webb and Obama

Senators Barack Obama and James Webb

Team McCain is pushing back on the Senator James Webb attack on the McCain military record last night on MSNBC.

    McCain spokesperson Brian Rogers:

“If you didn’t think this was a coordinated attack on John McCain’s credentials before, it’s clear now that it is. Barack Obama’s surrogates are telling the McCain campaign to “calm down” about attacks on his military record? Seriously? Now somehow Wes Clark’s attacks are John McCain’s fault? It’s absurd. If Barack Obama can’t control his own surrogate operation, how can he be trusted to run the country?”

Greg Sargent et. al. from the LEFT may believe that this eighth attack of the McCain military record is not a concerted and organized effort to impugn McCain but the record is clear. And Webb’s apologies from a spokesperson are ridiculously predictable.

Who will be the next hit and run Democrat lackey to go after McCain’s military record? Jay Rockefeller and George McGovern have already been used.

All of this discussion about McCain’s military and war record highlights the fact that Barack Obama has NO military experience.

John McCain Watch: The 8th Attack on Military Record – James Webb Edition

    Webb and Obama

Senators Barack Obama and James Webb

Flap wrote yesterday about the seemingly OVERT concerted effort by Democrats over time to impugn the military and war record of John McCain. Jim Geraghty over at National Review had a summary of the seven previous attacks:

After statements by a half-dozen high-profile Democrats and Obama surrogates, you cannot persuade me that there is not a concerted effort on the part of Obama Democrats to criticize McCain on his war record. George McGovern, Jay Rockefeller, Tom Harkin, Democratic congressional candidate Bill Gillespie, Ed Schultz, Tony McPeak, and now Clark. Way too many to be coincidence. We’re seeing a lot more derisive comments about McCain’s wartime service than we are about Obama’s race.

Well, make Senator John Webb’s attack last night on the Obie-One show the 8th attack.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) waded into the debate over John McCain’s military service Monday to say that the Republican should avoid using military service in politics.

“I think what we really need to work on over the next four, five months, and it goes back to the speech that Sen. Obama gave [Monday] and this little fight that I’ve been watching and that is, we need to make sure that we take politics out of service,” Webb said. “People don’t serve their country for political issues.”

He continued: “And John McCain’s my long-time friend, if that is one area that I would ask him to calm down on, it`s that, don’t be standing up and uttering your political views and implying that all the people in the military support them because they don’t, any more than when the Democrats have political issues during the Vietnam War. Let’s get the politics out of the military, take care of our military people, or have our political arguments in other areas.”

Excuse me Senator, but it was General Wesley Clark that started up the military discussion and impugning again. As did George McGovern and Senator Jay Rockefeller did before.

And, may I remind you that your good friend, Senator Obama, has had NO MILITARY SERVICE for the United States.

And, true to form, Senator Webb after these comments has now apologized through an office spokesperson.

Webb’s office e-mailed the Briefing Room a response to critics who have argued that Webb is criticizing McCain’s military service.

“Senator Webb has never, and would never, demean the service of anyone who has stepped forward to serve our country. To the contrary, he was calling on those on all sides of the debate to refrain from implying that their political views are representative of the military writ large,” wrote Webb’s press secretary, Kimberly Hunter.

She stressed that Webb, the former Secretary of the Navy, has consistently argued against the injection of politics into military service by anyone.

Anyone seeing a pattern here – after the 8th fraking attack?

Flap is amazed that the MSM is not pressing on Obama to repudiate former General Wesley Clark and fire him from his campaign.

    But, they won’t.

The eighth Democrat attack impugning John McCain and nobody from a major news organization says a damn thing. McCain plays defense and figures it won’t stick. The MSM doesn’t give a damn that the Democrats are flat out lying and playing an orchestrated SMEAR game.

The little “unhidden secret” though is everytime McCain IS attacked American voters will be reminded that Barack Obama lacks ANY military experience or service.

General Wesley Clark Attacks McCain AGAIN

Gen. Wes Clark interview on Fact the Nation, June 29, 2008

Retired General Wesley Clark, thrown under the bus by Barack Obama earlier in the day, is coming back for a second round of attacks on John McCain.

There are many important issues in this Presidential election, clearly one of the most important issues is national security and keeping the American people safe. In my opinion, protecting the American people is the most important duty of our next President. I have made comments in the past about John McCain’s service and I want to reiterate them in order be crystal clear. As I have said before I honor John McCain’s service as a prisoner of war and a Vietnam Veteran. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in Armed Forces as a prisoner of war. I would never dishonor the service of someone who chose to wear the uniform for our nation.

John McCain is running his campaign on his experience and how his experience would benefit him and our nation as President. That experience shows courage and commitment to our country – but it doesn’t include executive experience wrestling with national policy or go-to-war decisions. And in this area his judgment has been flawed – he not only supported going into a war we didn’t have to fight in Iraq, but has time and again undervalued other, non-military elements of national power that must be used effectively to protect America But as an American and former military officer I will not back down if I believe someone doesn’t have sound judgment when it comes to our nation’s most critical issues.

More ….More…..Wesley Clark is clearly out of line then and now. It is all about Wesley Clark now, isn’t it?

The LEFT may love the attacks -look at the some of the comments at Ben Smith’s blog:

Thank you General Clark, for standing behind your very reasoned assessment of John McCain and his fitness for the Oval office. I for one find McCain’s outrage indicative of the temper we have heard so much about. He does not like to be questioned, he does not like to discuss issues that are not part of his talking points, and he seems to be willing to allow his surrogates to attack the Democratic nominee at will while having absolutely no ability at all to tolerate even the slightest of criticisms. Come to think of it, this whole episode reminds me more and more why McCain is just the flip side of George Bush. Stubborn, inflexible, unwillingess to be questioned, and surrounded by loyal surrogates who do his dirty work for him.

Good for Clark. He didn’t say anything wrong. If you want to take offense, you can take offense at anything. Getting shot down & tortured would not necessarily make you a good president.

But, this will NOT play very well with the American voters. Watch Obama RUSH to publicly denounce Wesley Clark tomorrow and take him to the woodshed.

Could John McCain wished for a better 4th of July?

William Kristol, the founder and editor of the conservative weekly political magazine, The Weekly Standard on Fox News this afternoon raised the prospect of a Sarah Palin nomination as a Vice Presidential running mate for Senator John McCain.

Kristol first raised the prospect of Sarah Palin on Fox News Sunday.

Is this the reason why there was a Mitt Romney for Vice President story in Politico today?

Yep, they are fighting to be named the GOP running mate.

John McCain Watch: Wesley Clark Comment “UNNECESSARY”

Sen. McCain responds to Gen. Clark’s comments and says that they were unneccessary.

John McCain has responded to retired General Wesley Clark’s remark yesterday:

“I don’t think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president.”

    John McCain:

“That kind of thing is unnecessary. I am proud of my record of service, and I have plenty of friends and leaders who will attest to that,” McCain said, adding those sorts of attacks don’t “reduce the price of a gallon of gas by one penny” or help struggling Americans keep their jobs or homes.

McCain is right and Obama is putting out yet another fire.

The Democrats are the masters of the “CHEAP SHOT” and in this case they are not only wrong but mean spirited.

    Advantage Team McCain…….

Barack Obama Throws General Wesley Clark Under the Bus Over McCain War Remarks

    clarkandobama

Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) speaks as retired Army General Wesley Clark (R) listens during Obama’s meeting with generals and other military flag officers at a military and foreign affairs round table discussion in Washington June 18, 2008

Barack Obama speaking in Independence, Missouri threw former General Wesley Clark “UNDER THE BUS” for his remarks yesterday regarding John McCain’s Vietnam era war record.

Obama also sought to tamp down controversy surrounding comments over the weekend from a supporter. Retired Gen. Wesley Clark said in a television appearance that the Vietnam War-era military service of John McCain, Obama’s Republican opponent, does not necessarily qualify him to be commander in chief.

McCain was a fighter pilot who was captured and held as a prisoner of war for more than five years.

Obama said that patriotism “must, if it is to mean anything, involve the willingness to sacrifice” and sought to distance himself from Clark’s remarks without mentioning them.

“For those like John McCain who have endured physical torment in service to our country—no further proof of such sacrifice is necessary,” Obama said. “And let me also add that no one should ever devalue that service, especially for the sake of a political campaign, and that goes for supporters on both sides.”

    The comment drew loud applause.

Separately, in a statement, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said, “As he’s said many times before, Senator Obama honors and respects Senator McCain’s service, and of course he rejects yesterday’s statement by General Clark.”

Wesley Clarks’ comments were definitely over the top but Obama is being disingenuous about his surrogates attempts at smearing John McCain. Note that Senator Jay Rockefeller made similar comments and when called on them, quickly apologized.

Barry needs to completely disavow Clark’s comments and “FIRE” him from the campaign. So, he went half way today.

These type of campaign tactics might excite the LEFT and lately they have been pushing this crap through the blogosphere but impugning a man who has been tortured for his country will not win you any friends with American voters.

Flap bets you won’t be seeing Wesley Clark around much……..

    Update:

Geraghty over at National Review has the seven attacks on McCain’s war record. A concerted attack?

After statements by a half-dozen high-profile Democrats and Obama
surrogates, you cannot persuade me that there is not a concerted effort

    Obama’s race.

You bet it is a concerted and a drawn out organized attack.

But, if you made the comment about Obama’s lack of ANY military service it falls on deaf ears.

Mitt Romney Watch: Top of the McCain VP List?

Senator John McCain and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney tops John McCain’s list for Vice Presidential candidates? So, it seems.

Surprising many Republican insiders, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is at the top of the vice presidential prospect list for John McCain. But lack of personal chemistry could derail the pick.

“Romney as favorite” is the hot buzz in Republican circles, and top party advisers said the case is compelling.

Campaign insiders say McCain plans to name his running mate very shortly after Barack Obama does, as part of what one campaign planner called a “bounce-mitigation strategy.”

The Democratic convention is in late August, a week ahead of the Republican convention. That means McCain can size up the opposing ticket before locking in his own.

Flap made the argument for Romney a number of weeks ago.

In the meantime, Barack Obama has opted out of public campaign financing and Team McCain finds itself vastly underfunded.

McCain sources tell Politico that they believe Romney could raise $50 million in 60 days. One close Romney adviser said it could even be $60 million.

McCain’s choice will come down to the three M’s:

    • Mitt
    • Money (business, economics and fundraising)
    • Michigan

Flap predicts McCain goes with Romney. Of course, this will not be my favorite choice (which is Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska) but in a match-up against Obama and Biden/Bayh it is a winning combination.
