    Obamacare: Democrat Infighting Intensifies

    ramrieztoon072809

    Political Cartoon by Michael Ramirez

Well, the Democrats in Congress were all GIDDY when Al Franken became the 60th vote in the United States Senate.

    Now, what is the problem?

A House fight among Democrats on overhauling the nation’s healthcare system has spread to the Senate, where centrists and liberals are clashing over the direction the legislation should take.

Trouble is brewing now that a bipartisan group of senators — led by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) — has signaled it will exclude a government-run insurance option from the committee’s draft legislation that could be marked up next week.

Leaving it out would be a major step toward attracting Republican support for President Barack Obama’s signature issue. But it also would alienate liberals, who say the effort is wasted without it and are preparing a barrage of amendments for the Finance markup.

The House legislation has divided Democrats in that chamber along similar lines and is built around a public option to be paid for by raising taxes on the wealthy, an idea that has almost no chance of winning GOP votes. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee this month voted along partisan lines to approve legislation with a public option at its core.

Infighting among House Democrats has led to an impasse at the Energy and Commerce Committee that is expected to prevent House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from meeting her deadline of completing work before the August recess.

And on Tuesday it prompted Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) to hint that more liberal members of the party should consider challenging centrist Blue Dogs in next year’s primaries.

Well. some Democrats know that they will have to run on Obamacare in 2010 with NO political cover and that will be – RISKY.

Remember self-preservation on being re-elected TRUMPS party loyalty every time.

Party Support Poll Watch: Has the GOP Bottomed Out?

    GOP Dems ID

Possibly, when one looks at the latest Gallup Poll.

The Democratic Party continues to hold a solid advantage in party support over the Republican Party, as 49% of Americans interviewed in the second quarter of this year identified with or leaned to the Democratic Party, compared with 40% who did so for the Republican Party. However, that nine-point Democratic advantage is smaller than the 13-point edge Gallup measured in the first quarter of the year.

The latest results are based on an average of the Gallup Poll stand-alone polls conducted in the second quarter of 2009, consisting of more than 5,000 interviews with U.S. adults. Gallup Poll Daily tracking shows a similar pattern of change from the first quarter to the second quarter.

The declining Democratic advantage is due more to a drop in Democratic support (from 52% to 49%) than to an increase in Republican support (from 39% to 40%).

The lessening Democratic advantage may to some degree reflect a return to more typical party support levels, because the 13-point Democratic edge from the first quarter is on the high end of what Gallup has found since it began tracking this measure of party identification in 1991.

More likely is that the Democrats have topped out – at least for now.

Independent voters have been increasing in California (even with closed primary elections) and in open primary states. There is really little incentive to register with one party or the other.

Also, note during the Bill Clinton early years, the GOP surged when it gained control of the House. Might the GOP see a comeback as a result of an Obama Administration?

Poll Watch: Voters Trust Republicans More Than Democrats on Economic and National Security Issues

The latest Rasmussen poll drops this bombshell on President Obama and Congressional Democrats.

Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy.

This is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has held the advantage on this issue. The parties were close in May, with the Democrats holding a modest 44% to 43% edge. The latest survey was taken just after General Motors announced it was going into bankruptcy as part of a deal brokered by the Obama administration that gives the government majority ownership of the failing automaker.

Voters not affiliated with either party now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues by a two-to-one margin.

    Here are the results:

    GOP-vs-Dems-on-issues

Now, we know why President Obama is ramping up his economic stimulus tour today.

He can read pollls too or at least Rahm can.

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The RIGHT resistance to the FAR LEFT of President Obama and his minions in the Congress is alive and well. The LEFT likes to portray their success at the polls lately as far more than what reality says.

The facts are Obama majorities in Congress will decrease in 2010 and he will move his policies to the right to recapture independent voters in a bid for re-election in 2012.

Now, if the economy stays poor and unemployment high, the losses to the LEFT will be substantial.

MORONS in Congress Enjoy Speed Reader at Taxpayers Expense

Democrats in the House Energy and Commerce Committee have hired a speed reader, in case Republicans request for the more than 900 page bill to be read aloud. Invoking their procedural right to have the bill read aloud could advance the Republican’s plan to stall a vote on the bill. Committee Chairman Henry Waxman wants the bill voted out of the committee before Congress breaks for its Memorial Day recess next week.

Members of Congress on both side of the aisle should get REAL and stop wasting the public’s time and coin on MORONIC activities.

Republican Pary Identification Lowest in 30 Years But No Movement Away From Conservatism

    gop-party-identification

Check out the Pew Research Center interactive graph

An interesting study that heralds the rise of the independent voter in the era of Barack Obama.

The proportion of independents now equals its highest level in 70 years. Owing to defections from the Republican Party, independents are more conservative on several key issues than in the past. While they like and approve of Barack Obama, as a group independents are more skittish than they were two years ago about expanding the social safety net and are reluctant backers of greater government involvement in the private sector. Yet at the same time, they continue to more closely parallel the views of Democrats rather than Republicans on the most divisive core beliefs on social values, religion and national security.

While the Democrats gained a sizable advantage in partisan affiliation during George Bush’s presidency, their numbers slipped between December 2008 and April 2009, from 39% to 33%. Republican losses have been a little more modest, from 26% to 22%, but this represents the lowest level of professed affiliation with the GOP in at least a quarter century. Moreover, on nearly every dimension the Republican Party is at a low ebb – from image, to morale, to demographic vitality.

By contrast, the percentage of self-described political independents has steadily climbed, on a monthly basis, from 30% last December to 39% in April. Taking an average of surveys conducted this year, 36% say they are independents, 35% are Democrats, while 23% are Republicans. On an annual basis, the only previous year when independent identification has been this high was in 1992 when Ross Perot ran a popular independent candidacy.

As has been the case in recent years, more independents “lean” Democratic than Republican (17% vs. 12%). Yet an increasing share of independents describe their views as conservative; in surveys conducted this year, 33% of independents say they are conservatives, up from 28% in 2007 and 26% in 2005. Again, this ideological change is at least in part a consequence of former Republicans moving into the ranks of independents.
The latest values survey, conducted March 31-April 21 among 3,013 adults reached on landlines and cell phones, finds that there has been no consistent movement away from conservatism, nor a shift toward liberalism – despite the decline in Republican identification. In fact, fewer Americans say the government has a fundamental responsibility to provide a safety net than did so two years ago, and the share supporting increased help for the needy, even if the debt increases, has declined.

How does this trend affect the future of the two party system? Will independent voters gradually assimilate back into the two majoer parties or will there arise a new third party?

Will independent candidates first start at the state level and contest districts that normally are dominated by either the Democrats or GOP?

    Stay tuned……..

Democrat Party and Hillary Clinton Major Donor Norman Hsu Convicted of Violating Campaign Finance Laws

In this undated photo released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, former top Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu, left, poses with New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rua Kelly told the jury in Manhattan on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 that it will see photographs of the Hong Kong-born Hsu with famous politicians and will hear his former investors describe being pressured by Hsu to make political donations in their names that they would be reimbursed for

Norman Hsu, mega-Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton fundraiser has been convicted of violating federal campaign finance laws.

Disgraced Democratic donor Norman Hsu was convicted this morning of illegally funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to top-tier political candidates including then-Sen. Hillary Clinton and now-President Obama.

A Manhattan federal court jury pronounced Hsu guilty on all four counts against him after less than three hours of deliberations over two days.

Hsu, 58, did not react to the verdict.

“I think he expected it because it was quick,” defense lawyer Alan Seidler said.

Seidler said the conviction was unlikely to add to the 30-year prison term Hsu faces after pleading guilty two weeks ago to running a massive $20 million Ponzi scheme.

Talk about a “CULTURE OF CORRUPTION.”

But, the Democratic POLS return the money and move on……..

Political Party Affiliation Now Tied – 11 Point Swing Towards GOP

Political party affiliation has dramtically shifted away from the Democrats in this latest Gallup Poll.

    The question:

In politics, as of today, do you consider yourself a Republican, a Democrat, or an independent? (Asked of independents: As of today, do you lean more to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?

    party-affiliation-poll

Quite an interesting trend if this poll is not an outlier. Interestingly, the same thing happened after Bill Clinton was elected President. In 1994, the first election after Clinton’s 1992 election, the GOP captured the House majority for the first time in over 40 years.

Is the reason that American voters prefer divided government with no one party in complete control or has there been a Democrat, Obama overload?

    Or just bad data.

You be the judge. But it does offer the GOP some hope.

    Stay tuned……

Day By Day by Chris Muir May 17, 2009 – Bitch, Yet Still Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals

    day by day 051709

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The LEFT is attempting to marginalize their opposition using the Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals. Look at some of the rules and apply them to modern day situations in the media and blogosphere.

Alinsky provides a collection of rules to guide the process.  But he emphasizes these rules must be translated into real-life tactics that are fluid and responsive to the situation at hand.

RULE 1: “Power is not only what I have, but what the enemy thinks I have.”  Power is derived from two main sources — money and people.   “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

(These are two things of which there is a plentiful supply.  Government and corporations always have a difficult time appealing to people, and usually do so almost exclusively with economic arguments.)

RULE 2: “I never go outside the expertise of ‘my people’.”  It results in confusion, fear and retreat.  Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

(Organizations under attack wonder why radicals don’t address the “real” issues.  This is why.  They avoid things with which they have no knowledge.)

RULE 3: “Whenever possible, I go outside the expertise of the enemy.”  I look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

(This happens all the time.  Watch how many organizations under attack are blind-sided by seemingly irrelevant arguments that they are then forced to address.)

RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”  If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, I send 30,000 letters.  I can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

(This is a serious rule.  The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)

RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”  There is no defense.  It’s irrational.  It’s infuriating.  It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

(Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh?  He wants to create anger and fear.)

RULE 6: “A good tactic is one ‘my people’ enjoy.”  They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more.  They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

(Radical activists, in this sense, are no different than any other human being.  We all avoid “un-fun” activities, and but we revel at and enjoy the ones that work and bring results.)

RULE 7: “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”  Don’t let it become old news.

(Even radical activists get bored.  So to keep them excited and involved, organizers are constantly coming up with new tactics.)

RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.”  I keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance.  As the opposition masters one approach, I hit them from the flank with something new.

(Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.)

RULE 9: “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”  Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

(Perception is reality.  Large organizations always prepare a worst-case scenario, something that may be furthest from the activists’ minds.  The upshot is that the organization will expend enormous time and energy, creating in its own collective mind the direst of conclusions.  The possibilities can easily poison the mind and result in demoralization.)

RULE 10: “If I push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.”  Violence from the other side can win the public to my side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

(Unions used this tactic.  Peaceful [albeit loud] demonstrations during the heyday of unions in the early to mid-20th Century incurred management’s wrath, often in the form of violence that eventually brought public sympathy to their side.)

RULE 11: “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”  I never let the enemy score points because I’d be caught without a solution to the problem.

(Old saw: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.  Activist organizations have an agenda, and their strategy is to hold a place at the table, to be given a forum to wield their power.  So, they have to have a compromise solution.)

RULE 12: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”  I cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy.  I go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

(This is cruel, but very effective.  Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting.  “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”

Do we see some interesting examples in our every day lives with the media LEFT, President Obama and the Congressional Democrats?

How about Keith Olbermann and the daily “Worst Person in the World Award?”

The Democrats demonizing first Karl rove, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Steele, then Dick Cheney, etc. etc.. A designated RIGHT hater of the week, so to speak.

Kind of falls into a strategy, don’t you think?

Now, how will the RIGHT fight back with a winning playbook of its own?

House Democrats Vote for The Airport for No One

    Murtha-airport

From the National Republican Congressional Committee – Book Your Flight Today

    Here it comes!

While Californians are struggling with high unemployment and home foreclosures, the House Democrats have voted to spend government tax money to build an airport in Pennsylvania that an average 20 people use a day.

It is an airport for no one.

    Except Congressman John Murtha.

Eight House Democrats voted for this boondoggle and will be targeted by the National Republican Congressional Committee today in radio ads to be aired in their districts.

The lawmakers are Larry Kissell of North Carolina, Harry Teague of New Mexico, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, Michael Arcuri of New York, Carol Shea Porter of New Hampshire, Vic Snyder of Arkansas, Mark Schauer of Michigan, and Stephanie Herseth of South Dakota

The version running against Kurt Schrader can be heard here. The core of the message is:

“Kurt Schrader voted for Nancy Pelosi’s wasteful $787 billion spending plan. Schrader’s been voting with Pelosi 97 percent of the time. It’s unbridled power, with no accountability. ABC News says $800,000 went to repave for a runway at a Pennsylvania airport that only has three flights a day. It’s the airport for no one. The airport averages just 20 passengers a day — but one of those customers happens to be a powerful Democratic Congressman, John Murtha. Coincidence? You decide.”

The stories of wasteful government spending are only beginning to surface. The earmarks, the special deals, the favoritism all in the name of economic stimulus.

    What a waste……
