California Proposition 8 Supporter and Anti-Gay Marriage Pastor Rick Warren Selected to Deliver Invocation at Barack Obama Inauguration

“New Evangelical” leader Rick Warren comes out forcefully in support of California’s anti-gay marriage amendment.

Barack Obama has chosen the founder and senior Pastor at California’s Saddleback Church, Pro-Life, conservative Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration. Warren is nationally acclaimed pastor and author of the New York Times bestselling “The Purpose Driven Life.” He previously announced  his support in favor of Proposition  8, California’s Protect Marriage Act that passed in November and restored the traditional definition of marriage (one man and one woman).

    Key Warren graph on marriage:

“For 5,000 years, every culture and every religion – not just Christianity – has defined marriage as a contract between men and women,” Warren wrote. “There is no reason to change the universal, historical definition of marriage to appease 2% of our population.”

But, the homosexual community is NOT happy.

The Human Rights Campaign and gay and lesbian activists are up in arms over the Obama transition team’s announcement that the Reverend Rick Warren has been selected to deliver the invocation at his inauguration in January.

The HRC sent a letter to president elect Barack Obama Wednesday expressing their disappointment in the selection of Warren.“Our loss in California over the passage of Proposition 8 which stripped loving, committed same-sex couples of their given legal right to marry is the greatest loss our community has faced in 40 years,” the letter reads. “And by inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table.”

Early in his campaign, Obama ran up against criticism from LGBT Americans for his inclusion of antigay political figures in his faith tour and on campaign stops. “Reformed gay” gospel singer Donnie McClurkin performed at an early event for Obama, drawing jeers from LGBT activists.

McClurkin has long claimed that God saved him from homosexuality.

Weeks later, the press latched on to Obama’s friendship with antigay minister James Meeks, from whom Obama had long claimed to seek regular “spiritual counsel.” This association led a number of on-the-fence LGBT voters to rally behind Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

Here is the text of the letter:

    Dear President-elect Obama,

Let me get right to the point. Your invitation to Reverend Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration is a genuine blow to LGBT Americans. Our loss in California over the passage of Proposition 8 which stripped loving, committed same-sex couples of their given legal right to marry is the greatest loss our community has faced in 40 years. And by inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table.

Rick Warren has not sat on the sidelines in the fight for basic equality and fairness. In fact, Rev. Warren spoke out vocally in support of Prop 8 in California saying, “there is no need to change the universal, historical definition of marriage to appease 2 percent of our population … This is not a political issue — it is a moral issue that God has spoken clearly about.” Furthermore, he continues to misrepresent marriage equality as silencing his religious views. This was a lie during the battle over Proposition 8, and it’s a lie today.

Rev. Warren cannot name a single theological issue that he and vehemently, anti-gay theologian James Dobson disagree on. Rev. Warren is not a moderate pastor who is trying to bring all sides together. Instead, Rev. Warren has often played the role of general in the cultural war waged against LGBT Americans, many of whom also share a strong tradition of religion and faith.

We have been moved by your calls to religious leaders to own up to the homophobia and racism that has stood in the way of combating HIV and AIDS in this country. And that you have publicly called on religious leaders to open their hearts to their LGBT family members, neighbors and friends.

But in this case, we feel a deep level of disrespect when one of architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given the prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination. Only when Rev. Warren and others support basic legislative protections for LGBT Americans can we believe their claim that they are not four-square against our rights and dignity. In that light, we urge you to reconsider this announcement.

    Sincerely,

    Joe Solmonese
    President
    Human Rights Campaign

Flap understands why the homosexual LEFT is upset.

Obama did name seven openly homosexual folks to his transition team but he has placed the issue of “gays in the military” on the backburner.

And, California African-American voters voted overwhelmingly in favor of California Proposition 8.

Now, Obama selects an anti-gay marriage Pastor to participate in the inauguration ceremony. It would be like President George W. Bush asking Barbara Streisand to speak at an RNC fundraising dinner.

But, Obama wants to be an inclusive President and irrespective of the homosexual community his voter base approves.

Exit questions: Will the radical gay marriage protesters that have marched against Mormon Churches, protested in front of Rick Warren’s church, harassed businesses and indviduals that supported Proposition 8, boycott or protest at Obama’s inauguration? Will they dare?

California Proposition 8 Aftermath: Life Thrown Into Turmoil for a $100 Donation

Video of the El Coyote Restaurant protest aftermath of California Proposition 8

The Los Angeles Times had a column yesterday by Steve Lopez that documents the turmoil of a gay marriage opponent.

Well, Christoffersen was a manager at El Coyote, the Beverly Boulevard landmark restaurant that’s always had throngs of customers waiting to get inside. Many of them were gay, and Christoffersen, a devout Mormon, donated $100 in support of Proposition 8, the successful November ballot initiative that banned gay marriage.

She never advertised her politics or religion in the restaurant, but last month her donation showed up on lists of “for” and “against” donors. And El Coyote became a target.

A boycott was organized on the Internet, with activists trashing El Coyote on restaurant review sites. Then came throngs of protesters, some of them shouting “shame on you” at customers. The police arrived in riot gear one night to quell the angry mob.

The mob left, but so did the customers.

Sections of the restaurant have been closed, a manager told me Friday during a very quiet lunch hour. Some of the 89 employees, many of them gay, have had their hours cut, and layoffs are looming. And Christoffersen, who has taken a voluntary leave of absence, is wondering whether she’ll ever again be able to work at the restaurant, which opened in 1931 (at 1st and La Brea) and is owned by her 92-year-old mother.

OH those tolerant folks from the radical Homosexual Lobby – winning hearts and minds.

Intimidtion really works, now doesn’t it?

Day Without A Gay Protest FLOPS

    Day-Without-Gay

Just like Flap said it would FLOP yesterday.

A daylong work stoppage for which people were encouraged to call in “gay” to express support for same-sex marriage drew spotty participation Wednesday, with some gay rights activists praising the event and others questioning its value.

People who opted to take the day off from their jobs as part of the national “Day Without a Gay” were encouraged to perform community service, and charitable organizations across the country said they had volunteers showing up.

David Lang, 44, a San Francisco gymnastics coach who said he conceived of a similar idea right after the election, said he thinks a coordinated job action would have been more successful if organizers had enlisted support from sympathetic employers, labor groups and industries.

“If we are going to make a huge impact and not be laughed at, then we have to take the time and make the time to communicate with all the parties. We could have shut down a lot of the hotels,” Lang said. “In theory it’s a great idea, but it’s being done wrong and now that it’s been done wrong, I don’t think it will be done again.”

These type of confrontational protests won’t be done again because there is NO support for them. Gay Marriage is not a burning issue for most California voters and the homosexual lobby is doing a great job of pissing off people they wish to persuade to support them.

California Proposition 8 Aftermath: Day Without A Gay

    Day-Without-Gay

Don’t think this protest over the passage last month of California’s Proposition 8 which restored the traditional definition of marriage (one man and one woman) will have any legs or many protesters.

More symbolism over substance because even some homosexuals do NOT agree with the idea that  homosexual rights necessarily spills over to gay marriage.

The homosexual community is already backing away from the protest before it even starts.

As for the broader call of boycotts, Prop. 8 opponents say success or failure can’t be measured by numbers.

“It’s organic, it’s visceral, it’s grass roots and net roots,” said State Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who spoke at the November rally at City Hall. “People are reacting in a very natural way to having their rights taken away by an unconstitutional proposition.”

Leno’s schedule Wednesday starts with a budget subcommittee on health and human service issues. “Though I’m respectful of the day,” Leno said, legislative work comes first.

A FLOP waiting to happen because there is NO support.

    Move along……

California Proposition 8 Aftermath: Mormon El Coyote Restaurant Manager Quits

    El Coyote Cafe protest

Hundreds of protesters converged on El Coyote on Beverly Boulevard on Wednesday night, November 12, 2008. Photo courtesy of LA Times

    Remember the Flap.

Well, Marjorie Christiffersen has resigned her positon as a manager of the restaurant and from the restaurant’s board of directors (via M/M).

As of Saturday evening, Marjorie Christoffersen was no longer employed at El Coyote, Frontiers magazine reported Monday on its website. Bill Schoeppner, a fellow manager at El Coyote, told Frontiers that Christoffersen tendered her resignation that night. Christoffersen, described on the El Coyote website as the “matriarch” of the 77-year-old restaurant, will also be resigning from the restaurant’s board of directors.

The trouble began last month when local bloggers uncovered Christoffersen’s donation. Christoffersen is a Mormon. A November 12 press conference intended to defuse the anger of the restaurant’s gay clientele backfired when Christoffersen refused to apologize for the donation and said she would not financially support efforts to repeal Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California. It’s been reported that gay and lesbian business at the Mexican eatery has dropped precipitously since then.

“Everybody is kind of used to her walking around the restaurant with a water pitcher going from table to table to table,” Schoeppner told Frontiers about Christofferson. “I guess that part is no longer going to exist.”

Hope the gay marriage bullies are happy. They drove away a woman who gave a pawltry $100 to the Yes on 8 campaign and rather than renounce her true feelings on gay marriage quit her association with a restaurant that has been in her family for generations.

Flap has speculated that the family will sell the restaurant that is located just south of the West Hollywood (homosexual area) of Los Angeles. and which employees a majority of staff that are homosexual.

Maybe they can find a gay owner who will take it off the family’s bigoted hands?

California Proposition 8 – The Musical

See more Jack Black videos at Funny or Die
Proposition 8: The Musical! starring Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, Allison Janney and a buncha other liberal actor types…

The LEFT and gay marriage proponents ACTUALLY think ridiculing The Bible and Christianity is the way to win “hearts and minds” to win support for gay marriage.

But, everyone knows what the elitist Hollywoood types think about the commoners who foot the bill for their extravagant and immoral lifestyles, now don’t we?

Interesting how they only ridiculed the Obama supporters who helped pass Proposition 8 in passing.

    Update:

Some reviews are in courtesy of the Los Angeles Times:

Gawker: “This reminds us how smart Obama was to keep celebrities from too-vocally supporting him…. Because usually they seem really obnoxious and do more to aggravate than they do to inure. Oh, plus the music sucks.”

Playbill has some of the cast names: The “Proposition 8’ers and The People That Follow Them” include John C. Reilly as Prop 8 Leader; Allison Janney as Prop 8 Leader’s #1 Wife; Kathy Najimy as Prop 8 Leader’s #2 Wife; Jenifer Lewis as Riffing Prop 8’er; Craig Robinson as A Preacher; and
Rashida Jones, Lake Bell and Sarah Chalke as Scary Catholic School Girls From Hell.

Gallup Poll: African Americans as Conservative as Republicans on Some Moral Issues Including Gay Marriage

    Black Democrats 1

An interesting poll just out by the Gallup shop.

Only 31% of black Democrats in America say homosexual relations are morally acceptable, roughly the same as the 30% of Republicans who agree, while very much different from the 61% of nonblack Democrats who say homosexual relations are morally acceptable.

And, this position on the issue of gay politics propelled California’s Proposition 8 which restored the traditional defintion of marriage to the California Constitution to victory in November.

Exit-poll results after that vote on Nov. 4 suggested that black California voters had overwhelmingly voted in favor of the amendment, while overall, Democrats in California overwhelmingly voted against it — essentially confirming the national attitude structure apparent from Gallup’s analysis.

This explains the reluctance of Barack Obama to ACTIVELY campaign against Proposition 8 in California and to state emphatically he supports marriage between a man and a woman. How does this translate into Obama’s public policy?

Obama has put homosexual politics on the backburner and his staff have stated the “don’t ask don’t tell” military position may ONLY be evaluated in a year or so.

Homosexual organizations wish to bring the gay marriage issue back to the California voters in 2010 should the California Supreme Court fail to overturn Propsoition 8 (which they will). With this poll, California gay marriage proponents have a long way to go.

California Proposition 8 Aftermath – An UGLY Attack Against Mormons

Courage Campaign’s television ad: “Home Invasion”: Vote NO on Prop 8

Jonah Goldberg has a piece today up at the Los Angeles Times decrying the anti-Mormon tone of California Proposition 8 protesters.

It’s often lost on gay-rights groups that they and their allies are the aggressors in the culture war. Indeed, they admit to being the “forces of change” and the “agents of progress.” They proudly want to rewrite tradition and overturn laws. But whenever they’re challenged democratically and peaceably, they instantly complain of being victims of entrenched bigots, even as they adopt the very tactics they abhor.

My own view is that gay marriage is likely inevitable, and won’t be nearly the disaster many of my fellow conservatives fear it will be. But the scorched-earth campaign to victory pushed by gay-marriage advocates may well be disastrous, and “liberals” should be ashamed for countenancing it.

What Goldberg fails to acknowledge is that the homosexual lobby will NOT stop with legalizing same sex marriage. They will demand complete societal acceptance of homosexuality – “whether you like it or not.”

Gay People Should NOT Worry Too Much About California Proposition 8

    elton john and partner

“I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership,” said Elton John, who cemented his relationship with David Furnish in 2005. “The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. ”

Mark Simson who is gay and from Britain makes the case that gay marriage is NOT the same as gay EQUALITY.

Gay marriage is being presented by many gay people and liberals on both sides of the Atlantic as the touchstone of gay equality. Settling for anything less is a form of Jim Crow style gay segregation and second-class citizenship.

But not all gay people agree. This one sees gay marriage so much as a touchstone as a fetish. A largely symbolic and emotional issue that in the US threatens to undermine real, non-symbolic same-sex couple protection: civil unions bestow in effect the same legal status as marriage in several US states – including California. As a result of the religious right’s mobilisation against gay marriage, civil unions have been rolled back in several US states.

Living as I do in the UK, where civil partnerships have been nationally recognised since 2004, perhaps I shouldn’t carp. But part of the reason that civil partnerships were successfully introduced here was because they are not “marriages”. At this point I’d like to hide behind the formidable figure of Sir Elton John, who also expressed doubts recently about the fixation of US gay campaigners on “gay marriage”, and declared he was happy to be in a civil partnership with the American David Furnish and did not want to get married.

Amidst all the gay gnashing of teeth about the inequality of Proposition 8, it’s worth asking: when did marriage have anything to do with equality? Respectability, certainly. Normality, possibly. Stability, hopefully. Very hopefully. But equality?

First of all, there’s something gay people and their friends need to admit to the world: gay and straight long-term relationships are generally not the same. How many heterosexual marriages are open, for example? In my experience, many if not most long term male-male relationships are very open indeed. Similarly, sex is not quite so likely to be turned into reproduction when your genitals are the same shape. Yes, some gay couples may want to have children, by adoption or other means, and that’s fine and dandy of course, but children are not a consequence of gay conjugation. Which has always been part of the appeal for some.

More fundamentally who is the “man” and who is the “wife” in a gay marriage? Unlike cross-sex couples, same-sex partnerships are partnerships between nominal equals without any biologically, divinely or even culturally determined reproductive/domestic roles. Who is to be “given away”? Or as Elton John, put it: “I don’t wanna be anyone’s wife”.

    Read the entire piece.

The homosexual community is hurting themselve with ordinary California voters with their insistence of redefining marriage – “whether you like it or not.”

The American voters have spoken loudly with thirty states now banning gay marriage and several having reversed civil unions.

In California when the California Supreme Court likely upholds Proposition 8, the gay community will have to decide whether they wish to force another election in 2010 (which they will lose) or change direction for more gay equality with civil unions in other states (California already has domestic partnerships which confer all of the legal rights of marriage).

Exit question: Will the gay marriage rage against Proposition 8 be redirected or will it be all consuming?
