GOP Leaders Support The Crap Sandwich of $700 Billion Financial Rescue
House Republican Whip, Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., right, and House Republican Leader, Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, speak to reporters regarding the status of legislation on the financial crisis Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 on Capitol Hill in Washington
How many rank and file Republicans will support the “crap sandwich” financial bailout plan tomorrow as the House reconvenes? In a closed-door session with House Republicans Sunday evening, Minority Leader John A. Boehner called the $700 billion financial rescue deal a “crap sandwich†— then said he plans to vote for it.
House Republicans are the key to the bill’s passage Monday – Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that it’s a “bipartisan†bill and will need “bipartisanship†to pass – and it now appears that many will cast their votes in favor of it.
But many Republicans still harbor deep misgivings about the legislation, and the outcome remains uncertain. Asked Sunday night where the support stood for the legislation, Boehner told reporters, “We don’t know.â€
Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus, the ranking Republican on the Financial Services Committee who was publicly removed from the negotiations on this bill, told a gathering of conservative lawmakers Sunday night that he would oppose the bill, according to some present. In emotional remarks to the group, Bachus said he’d told Boehner, and Boehner had said he was disappointed. Bachus, who supported Boehner in his bid for leader, joked that he might not be ranking on Financial Services next year.
Indiana Rep. Mike Pence — the first member of either party to publicly oppose the initial Treasury proposal — lobbied leaders to start over again from scratch.
Probably not enough GOP members to block this horrible legislation. But, enough to divide the caucus and cascade McCain to a loss in November.
If it is a “crap sandwich” why don’t you vote NO and start over again?
Update:
Or, simply “Buy my s**tpile, Henry

Political Cartoons and the Double Standard at the Washington Post
A summary display of the Mohammed cartoons that sparked riots last year throughout the Muslim world
The Washington Post would not publish the Mohammed cartoons which sparked controversy and riots last year yet will allow this Pat Oliphant cartoon mocking Sarah Palin and Pentecostal Christian religions to be run on their website. Why?
Here is the HYPOCRITICAL explanation by the Washington Post, Ombudsman, Deborah Howell.
Most complainers thought that the Oliphant cartoon appeared in print. It didn’t. I showed it to several Post editors. While it was clever in some ways, most editors — including me — would not have run it. The Post has a policy against defaming or perpetuating racial, religious or ethnic stereotypes. That was why The Post did not run the Danish cartoons about the prophet Muhammad.
Is there any wonder why newspapers like the Washington Post are losing subscribers and are failing in the world marketplace of ideas? If the Post must have standards apply them equally.
But, we all know this will NEVER happen. The Washington Post’s standards are just an excuse for censorship to perpetuate their left-wing bias.

Day By Day by Chris Muir September 28, 2008 – When the Going Gets Tough…..
Day By Day by Chris Muir September 28, 2008Why the GOP is buying the Paulson-Democrat bailout plan is anyone’s guess. It is a dead loser for the GOP and will lead to the loss of John McCain (who is already cratering in the polls) and GOP Congressional candidates.Who does Congress and the Bush Administration work for?
Certainly NOT the American people who overwhelmingly oppose the bailout.

House and Senate negotiators were pushing closer to a bailout deal with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Saturday night—with new interest in finding a way for Wall Street to pay part of the cost.
One option that has gained momentum: a plan that would require Treasury to impose a fee on financial companies’ transactions in the future to help the government recover any losses from the purchase and sale of mortgage-related assets.
Paulson has been open to the idea, which could prove attractive to both deficit-conscious Blue Dog Democrats and conservative Republicans who have argued that Wall Street—rather than taxpayers—should shoulder a big part of the cost.
Racing to reach a deal before the markets open Monday, lawmakers met late into the night in the Capitol office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) . Paulson set up a sort of command center in the office of Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), with lawmakers and staffers criss-crossing Statuary Hall

The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is on track to pull a surprisingly average viewership number, drawing fewer households in the preliminary ratings than George W. Bush's face off against John Kerry four years ago.
In the meter-market overnights, Friday night's 90-minute debate in Mississippi received a preliminary household rating of 33.2, according to Nielsen Media Research.
That's 16% lower than the national number from the 2004 debate, which aired on a Thursday — generally TV's most-watched night of the week. Friday's number is only slightly above George W. Bush and Al Gore's first debate in 2000 and the Clinton-Dole debate in 1996.

Here’s my take — the McCain campaign is so concerned about staying on message and sticking with the narrative, they have tried to drill her with pre-programmed answers on a variety of subjects, rather than simply allow her to answer questions as she would if she weren’t part of a campaign team, and then deal after-the-fact with her remarks as needed.
Since she’s been part of the McCain campaign for only 3 weeks of the past 8 years, its hardly surprising that she’s having trouble spitting up the campaign’s talking points in a coherent fashion. Asking her do do so is only making her look like an idiot.

Russia is to build new space and missile defence shields and put its armed forces on permanent combat alert, President Medvedev announced today.
In a sharp escalation of military rhetoric, Mr Medvedev ordered a wholesale renovation of Russia’s nuclear deterrence and told military chiefs to draw up plans to reorganise the armed forces by December.
He said that Russia must modernise its nuclear defences within eight years, including the creation of a “system of air and space defenceâ€.

Democratic vice presidential hopeful Joe Biden claims that middle class Americans will be slapped with the "largest tax increase in American history" as a result of the McCain health care plan. It is true that McCain has proposed taxing the health-care benefits that Americans receive through their employers. However, Biden conveniently overlooks the fact that the Republican nominee is offering tax-payers a credit that should cover the cost of going out and buying insurance.

Though Sen. Chris Dodd implied that Sen. McCain sandbagged the rest of the negotiators by bringing up alternative proposals, McCain himself did not bring up those proposals, according to four independent sources briefed by four different principals inside the meeting, including two Republicans and two Democrats.
"McCain has not attacked the Paulson deal," said a third Republican who was briefed by McCain direclty. "Unlike the [Democrats] in the [White House] meeting, he didn't raise his voice or cause a ruckus. He is urging all sides to come together."

Tony Strickland Watch: “Changing Minds” Radio Ad Features Erin Brockovich
RADIO AD “CHANGING MINDS†CONTINUES STRICKLAND’S APPEAL TO BROAD BASE OF VOTERSFrom the Press Release:
Strickland for Senate has released a new radio ad titled “Changing Minds†which features popular consumer advocate Erin Brockovich explaining her support for Strickland’s ability to “get it done†and stating that he is the best person to represent the 19th District in the State Senate. Strickland’s ideas for strengthening our economy and advancing renewable energy as Vice President of GreenWave Energy Solutions has persuaded people with a wide range of political beliefs to support him in his bid for State Senate.
One of those people is Save the World Air CEO Cecil Kite, also featured in the ad, who says that, “Tony Strickland understands that technology and renewable energy, not bigger government, will transform and grow our economy and, even better, will reduce our dependence on foreign oil.â€
Save the World Air is a locally based business aimed to cut vehicle emissions.
The third person featured in the ad is Mike Stoker, president of the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association, saying – “Tony Strickland knows that higher taxes hurt working families. You can count on Tony to fight for the taxpayer, fight for small business, and create jobs.â€
Brockovich, a Democrat, is certainly the most recognizable figure in the ad due to the release of the major studio movie “Erin Brockovich†which highlighted her role in representing a number of people harmed by toxic waste leaked into the groundwater by a nearby Pacific Gas and Electric compressor station. Her character was played by Julia Roberts and became an instant box-office hit.
The popular consumer advocate and one of the most recognizable Democrats in the community supports Strickland for the independent leadership he has displayed in fighting for California families. His record of addressing the concerns of constituents and accessibility to the people he represents have convinced Brockovich that he is the best person to represent California’s 19th Senate District.

Another Worthless United Nations Resolution on Iran
Map of Iran’s nuclear facilities
The United States and Russia today agreed on a new United Nations resolution on Iran. The proposed new resolution appears to be a compromise—no new sanctions but a tough statement to Iran that Security Council resolutions are legally binding and must be carried out.
No new sanctions and worthless as usual. Clearly, the Bush Administration will be doing nothing further on Iran and the uranium enrichment centrifuges continue to spin at Natanz.
