California Bill Could Make Fourth State to Reject a Federal Immigration Fingerprint Check Program
Great! First the United States Supreme Court orders California to release felons from prisons to relieve overcrowding and now illegal immigration activists in California are pushing a bill to remove California from the federal Secure Communities program.California could become the fourth state to remove itself from a controversial federal immigration fingerprint check program, following recent moves by the governors of Massachusetts, New York and Illinois.
The state Senate’s Public Safety Committee has scheduled a hearing next week to consider AB 1081.
The measure would remove California’s 58 counties from the Secure Communities program, which uses biometric data from arrestees in local jails to search for illegal immigrants. Each county would then be free to negotiate its own terms for participating in federal immigration checks.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials contend that local agencies are required to participate in Secure Communities. City and county law enforcement officials send arrestees’ fingerprints electronically to federal immigration agents, then hold identified illegal immigrants until ICE can pick them up.
ICE had taken custody of nearly 72,000 people from California county jails in the past two years, through February. Federal data shows that a third of those illegal immigrants previously had been convicted of a serious offense. However, 28 percent of those booked through Secure Communities had no prior criminal record.
Either you enforce the immigration laws or you change them, but do not ignore them like some “sanctuary cities” in California do. Here is another case where left-wing politicos in San Francisco, a sanctuary city/county for illegal aliens want to ignore federal law. As Attorney General Jerry Brown blocked the San Francisco sheriff from opting out of the immigration program. He argued that the Secure Communities program is not voluntary.
Brown should veto this bill.

President 2012 Video: Game On – Bachmann Vs. Palin
Just as Sarah Palin begins a renaissance so to speak wit her bus tour, another conservative sends her spokesman out to spoil the party.
Game on between Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin.
But Rollins, with his own history of playing offense in presidential campaigns, took a few shots at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who could be a potential rival for Bachmann.
“Sarah has not been serious over the last couple of years,” Rollins said. “She got the vice-presidential thing handed to her. She didn’t go to work in the sense of trying gain more substance. She gave up her governorship. You know, I think Michele Bachmann and others have worked hard. She has been a leader of the Tea Party, which is a very important element here. She’s an attorney, done extraordinary things with family values and what have you. So I think she will connect.
In other words, Sarah, if you decide to enter the race in Iowa, I, Michele Bachmann, will NOT lie down and let you walk all over me. And, yes, I will have to money to run television commercials in Iowa and South Carolina, reminding all of the voters you resigned your Alaska governorship because you couldn’t take the heat or wanted to make money or wanted to run for President (take your pick of the memes).
Plus, I have, Ed Rollins, Ronald Reagan’s crusty old campaign guy who will remind everyone time and again, Sarah you ain’t NO Reagan.
As, I said game on – over to you, Sarah.

What do you think?
President Obama and the Congressional Democrats OWN the economy. They fiddled around with Climate Change, a wasteful Economic Stimulus Bill and ObamaCare while American businesses burned.
American voters will hold them accountable.

President 2012 South Carolina GOP Poll Watch: Romney 27% Vs. Palin 18% Vs. Cain and Gingrich 12%
According to the latest PPP Poll.
PPP has polled the key early Republican contests of New Hampshire, Nevada, Iowa, and now South Carolina over the course of the last two months and they all have one thing in common: Mitt Romney with the lead. Romney and Sarah Palin may be closely matched in the national Republican polling right now but Romney’s considerably stronger in the states that matter most. Our most recent polls have him leading by 6 in Iowa, 15 in Nevada, and 23 in New Hampshire. And today’s numbers find him up by 9 in South Carolina at 27% to 18% for Palin, 12% each for Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich, 9% for Michele Bachmann, 7% for Ron Paul, 4% for Tim Pawlenty, and 2% for Jon Huntsman.
Romney’s formula for success in South Carolina is the same as in Iowa: dominate with the middle, lead with the center right, and avoid getting completely blown out of the water with the far right. Voters describing themselves as ‘very conservative’ are the largest segment of the Republican electorate in the state at 41% and Palin leads with them at 21% but Romney is at least right there at 20%. With moderates Romney leads by 26 points, getting 41% to Palin’s 15%. And with ‘somewhat conservative’ voters Romney gets 27% to 15% each for Gingrich and Palin.
The question: Is Mitt Romney starting to pull away from the rest of the field? Can he be considered the front runner?
Another question: Are Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann too late in the running to be the anti-Romney candidate?
Third question: What would throwing a Rudy Giuliani in the mix to compete for moderate Republican do to the race?
Last question: With Christie and Ryan favorables so high, would they become a viable anti-Romney candidate?
Here is the favorable vs. unfavorable table:

Flap’s California Morning Collection June 7, 2011
A morning collection of links and comments about my home, California.
California Retailers Association backs Brown’s tax extensionsGov. Jerry Brown picked up some heavyweight support for his budget plan Monday when the California Retailers Association endorsed extension of sales, income and car taxes to close the budget’s deficit.
“Governor Brown is sincerely addressing the state’s long-term fiscal problems and has convinced us of the need to extend the 2009 tax increases,” CRA’s president, Bill Dombrowski, said in a statement. “This is part of an overall budget that addresses the mountain of debt facing the state. We support a vote to extend the tax increases and to put them on the ballot in a special election. We also plan to support passage of the extensions during the campaign.”
Brown has been attempting to enlist support of business groups for his budget plan in hopes of garnering the Republican votes he needs – at least two in each legislative house – to place the extensions on the ballot.
The temporary taxes, which include a one-cent increase in the sales tax, were enacted in 2009 as budget-balancing measures. The income tax surcharge expired at the end of 2010 and the sales and car tax increases expire on June 30.
Ethics agency will not investigate complaint over Schwarzenegger affair
The state’s ethics agency has rejected a request by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party to investigate whether former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger violated any state laws during an affair with a housekeeper that resulted in his fathering a child.
A complaint that did not allege any specific wrongdoing was filed with the state Fair Political Practices Commission, which enforces the state Political Reform Act regulating campaign finances.
“The Fair Political Practices Commission will not open an investigation into this matter,” wrote Executive Director Roman Porter in a letter to party attorneys. “After review of your complaint, the information you provided is insufficient to establish a violation of the act.”
New California legislative maps make good on promise of reform
When voters were asked to create an independent redistricting commission, they were told that it would end self-serving gerrymanders secretly drafted in the Capitol’s back rooms and thus make elections less predictable and more meaningful.
The 140-member commission and its consultants and attorneys are still fine-tuning draft maps of 153 congressional and legislative districts prior to Friday’s official release, but at first glance, the maps appear to fulfill that promise.
Were the maps to be adopted by the commission later in the summer and to survive legal challenges, they would create more “swing” districts – winnable by either major party – and probably result in more Latino and Asian American officeholders.
While Democrats would no doubt remain in control of both legislative houses, whether they would achieve their long-sought goal of two-thirds majorities, thereby gaining power over taxes, would depend on how the parties adjust.
An increase in swing districts would mean that right-wing Republicans and left-wing Democrats would no longer be assured of winning seats after nomination. The state’s new “top-two” primary system would, at least in theory, also work against ideological rigidity. Together, they could create new and perhaps decisive blocs of moderates from both parties.
Republican Tony Quinn, one of the few genuine experts on redistricting and one of the commission’s sharpest critics, says he’s pleasantly surprised. “The maps are balanced in partisan terms,” Quinn wrote in a blog Monday (and) “both parties have reason to be pleased and displeased. There is no partisan advantage in these first maps. And the maps draw a remarkable number of politically marginal districts.”
The maps’ impact on the state’s 53 congressional members would be especially heavy – in part because they were especially benefited by the bipartisan gerrymander in 2001. With so many incumbents 60-plus years old, the maps probably would generate a large number of retirements and, with their replacements likely to be state legislators, would have a domino effect on the Capitol.
Draft congressional district threatens Sanchez
An early draft of new congressional district boundaries does away with the Democratic Latino district now represented by Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana, and puts Sanchez into a largely coastal, GOP-controlled district now largely represented by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Costa Mesa.
The draft also creates a heavily Asian district centered around Little Saigon.
I’ve spoken with two people from the independent citizens commission drawing up the lines, and both emphasized that these district lines will undergo several rounds of revision.
“These are working maps,” said Jodie Filkins Webber, a commissioner and an attorney based in Orange.
“This is a very preliminary stage. We welcome input. We hope people will look at these closely and let us know their concerns.”
Enjoy your morning!

President 2012 Poll Watch: Romney 49% Vs. Obama 46%
According to the latest Washington Post-ABC News Poll. The public opinion boost President Obama received after the killing of Osama bin Laden has dissipated, and Americans’ disapproval of how he is handling the nation’s economy and the deficit has reached new highs, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The survey portrays a broadly pessimistic mood in the country this spring as higher gasoline prices, sliding home values and a disappointing employment picture have raised fresh concerns about the pace of the economic recovery.
By 2 to 1, Americans say the country is pretty seriously on the wrong track, and nine in 10 continue to rate the economy in negative terms. Nearly six in 10 say the economy has not started to recover, regardless of what official statistics may say, and most of those who say it has improved rate the recovery as weak.
New Post-ABC numbers show Obama leading five of six potential Republican presidential rivals tested in the poll. But he is in a dead heat with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who formally announced his 2012 candidacy last week, making jobs and the economy the central issues in his campaign.
Again, this is a national poll, so take it with a grain of salt. We all know that it is the election in key battleground states that really matter.
Mitt Romney is leading President Obama, 49% to 46% among registered voters but it is within the margin of error, so it is not statistically relevant, although it does point out Obama’s vulnerability. The other GOP candidates do not fair as well as Mitt Romney (see the graphic above).
GOP Primary election:- Romney – 21% (16%, 4/172011)
- Palin – 17% (5%)
- Giuliani – 8% (NA)
- Gingrich – 6% (2%)
- Paul – 6% (2%)
- Pawlenty – 4% (1%)
- Cain – 4% (NA)
- Bachmann – 3% (1%)
- None of the above – 5% (12%)
Well, Mitt Romney is polling the best against Obama but it is uncertain as to whether he can win in the GOP nomination race. It is also uncertain whether Sarah Palin or Rudy Giuliani will run.
My best guess, is that should Sarah Palin decide to roll the dice and run, that Rudy Giuliani will also enter the race. Rudy will count on the divisiveness of a Romney Vs. Palin contest, while he easily wins East and West Coast Republican primary elections and delegates. He might also figure a deal with Romney to defeat Palin. A wild card in all of this will be Michele Bachmann who will run strong in the Iowa Caucus and may gather some momentum going into South Carolina.
So, what does this all mean?
The economy is weak, voters do not think it is improving, Obama is in trouble and the GOP Presidential field while hopeful, is uncertain, with no front runner.

Day By Day June 4, 2011 – Weenie Run
Day By Day by Chris MuirI am a few days behind on Day By Day but it is NOW obvious that Rep. Anthony Weiner won’t be running for New York City Mayor or probably anything else, including re-election to the House. The latest in the scandal is from TMZ.com.Congressman Anthony Weiner instructed one of his Internet women how to lie about their relationship … and even offered PR help from his team, which could create major legal issues for him … TMZ has learned.
Weiner and former porn star Ginger Lee exchanged scores of sexual emails over a long period of time. When the underwear scandal broke on May 28, Lee began receiving calls from the media, and Weiner was more than happy to help her control the situation … by lying.
It is ONLY going to get worse for him as the House moves on an Ethics probe.
By Friday, I predict, the Democratic Leaders of the House and Senate will pay the New York Congressman a visit and tell him it is over and that he must go. I would say sometime Friday afternoon D.C. time = say 5 PM.
